Backup Site?

Whatever happened with that? Maybe we should get back on that. These last two days have sucked.

tyketime 03-15-2011 08:53 AM

OK - this confirms what I suspected. Over the past couple of days, I've gotten Database Error connection issues probably 5 or 6 times. And when I do connect, it's been painfully slow at times. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing that, or is it a problem with my connection?

Ksyrup 03-15-2011 08:54 AM

I've been having issues here for way longer than 2 days. I've gotten 3 or 4 database errors in the past 2 weeks, but in general, the delays in getting to the forum and into specific threads has grown more and more annoying. I almost posted something about it last week, but because of the earthquake/tsunami, figured it wasn't quite the right time to bitch about something so petty.

But yeah, this site is having some problems lately.

Mustang 03-15-2011 08:54 AM

Looks like my work picked a good week to shutoff internet access for everyone.

Ryan S 03-15-2011 09:04 AM

I have not noticed any downtime yet, but I suppose that is probably just luck.

Can somebody post the times this has been happening, and if it happens again, can you check to see if the Operation Sports site is available?

Logan 03-15-2011 09:08 AM

Yesterday it was down from about 6:15 to 8:15 Eastern time. And today it was down from maybe 8am eastern to just a few minutes ago, plus there was a point around 9am where I was able to get on for a minute but then the database error came back.

Like Ksyrup, I had a couple issues last week too but it was for a much, much briefer period of time...like see the error, reload and it was fine. Yesterday was the first time I experienced significant problems.

Ksyrup 03-15-2011 09:10 AM

I was getting a database error this morning about 2 hours or so ago.

In general, I get big-time delays when clicking links quite often and pretty much at any time of the day/night. It's not constant - right now links are opening fine - but I haven't noticed a rhyme or reason to it.

Ksyrup 03-15-2011 09:11 AM

And actually now that I post that, it took about 25-30 seconds for my post to register once I hit 'post quick reply.'

Icy 03-15-2011 09:46 AM

I also saw the database error both here and at OPS main site today.

Sweed 03-15-2011 09:47 AM

database error for me too yesterday morning going for about 2 hours somewhere around 6:30 am to 8:30 am central. Same database error this morning but not sure for how long as I wasn't online much.

Also like others had brief times where I got on and then back down or the main forum page came up but none of the links would open.

Took about thirty seconds for this reply box to come up after hitting the reply button.

And yes OS was down at the same time.

Noop 03-15-2011 10:23 AM

I must not come here enough to notice *shrug*

JediKooter 03-15-2011 10:33 AM

I haven't noticed any problems with this place in a while. Maybe it's time for some members to drain and flush their cache? ;)

Is that code for one of those 14-day cleansing programs? :D

Lathum 03-15-2011 10:48 AM

I had problems this morning with databease errors.

13 posts in and no one mentions SportsDigs. We're slipping guys.

You do what you want with your own kooter.

I'd go for the 7 day programs. That way you're back and in the game a week sooner.

Haha!

It seems to primarily be a problem only in the mornings, possibly before most of you are even awake even. I'm assuming mostly east coasters or European board members would notice it.

The board this week has been virtually unusable between 8am and 9am though each day, and really slow just prior and after that time frame too.

I was personally wondering if Operation sports were doing server backups during that time or something.

Rizon 03-15-2011 11:08 AM

This site has been really slow for me lately*

*since I joined in 2004

Tasan 03-15-2011 11:35 AM

Interesting. I haven't had an issue with the site for quite some time(years). I wonder if its a routing issue. Any idea where, physically, the server is?

Not a routing issue in this case because it actually comes back with database errors and database timeouts. So the issues that I am at least seeing are between the board software and its backend database.

Glengoyne 03-15-2011 12:17 PM

Just had a database timeout error, about ten minutes ago.

JAG 03-15-2011 03:33 PM

I've experienced this the past couple mornings around the timeframe mentioned above, as late as 8:15am CST, then things are mostly fine after that. The main Operation Sports website and forum list was accessible both days when FOFC was down for me.

Excellent idea, sir. Oh how I miss my Ashlee Simpson avatar!

JonInMiddleGA 03-16-2011 08:51 AM

Same deal this morning, database error msgs from about 8a eastern until a few minutes ago. Been happening for the past few days but something a little different this morning, as the main page and/or forum sub-pages would load (i.e. I could see the list of posts) before the db error occurring when I would try to open a thread. Usually I just can't get in period.

fantom1979 03-16-2011 09:20 AM

Site has been very slow for me (off and on) for the last couple of weeks. Have seen a couple of database errors. I just assumed that one of the mods was using the server as a seedbox.

muns 03-16-2011 09:22 AM

The slowness and not being able to get here is getting pretty annoying the past week or so

gstelmack 03-16-2011 09:49 AM

Same here, database errors last two mornings, slow loading otherwise.

DanGarion 03-16-2011 09:53 AM

Sometimes we talk on the FOFC Facebook page if the site is down.

Ben E Lou 03-16-2011 11:51 AM

I'm in touch with the O.S. staff to see what's going on.

Lathum 03-16-2011 11:38 PM

Just went down again for about 20 minutes. First time I recall it happening this time of night

Ksyrup 03-16-2011 11:52 PM

It was close to an hour for me. I posted in the AI thread and couldn't get back to the forum.

stevew 03-17-2011 12:03 AM

I posted at 1149 and then couldn't get in a few moments later.

Logan 03-17-2011 08:10 AM

It was down for me just before. Judging by the last post before this one, looks like from just after 8am eastern to 8:45.

edit: Tried posting it at 8:45, errors til it went thru at 9:10.

Logan 03-17-2011 09:13 AM

Oh and then it went dead for another hour.

Any update Ben?

Alan T 03-17-2011 09:20 AM

Yeah, was unreachable for me from 8am until 10:15am this morning

Sweed 03-17-2011 09:20 AM

Yeah, pretty much like clockwork every morning now.

I hope those average tech people don't check this thread, their feelings might be hurt that they were left out.

Or maybe that's all just upfront over there. You have your "best tech people", that's one paygrade, and then you have your "average tech people", they have smaller offices, and finally, the "bad tech people" - they handle stapler jams.

stevew 03-17-2011 11:03 AM

We are replacing the piss poor tech people who are currently attempting to fix the problem.

"Milton, your stapler is jammed? I'll send my worst tech guy over there right now. And he's going to move your desk to storage room B."

gstelmack 03-17-2011 11:07 AM

Well, was slow a bit ago, and right now pages are loading instantly. If this lasts, great job!

Yeah, it's flying. I guess the best person was on the job. It's like BALCO runs this site now.

Is that why I'm going bald?

CleBrownsfan 03-18-2011 06:19 AM

Over under on what time the board goes down today?? I say 8:15 EST ;)

GrantDawg 03-18-2011 07:17 AM

Hey! First morning this week the site wasn't down. Good job, guys.

yeah, was a nice change.

I think someone mentioned it earlier, but there is a facebook page for FOFC in case OS ever gets nuked.

Logan 03-18-2011 08:57 AM

Yep no issues today and like someone else mentioned, the speed seems to be back to normal.

sterlingice 03-18-2011 09:22 AM

Knock on wood ;)
