United Nations Reform: How would you handle it?

Okay, so it's time to make the United Nations more legit and a little more organized. A couple of notes about why I even ponder this. 1.) The United Nations voted for a no-fly-zone over Libya...after weeks of delay and 2.) 10 nations voted for it and 5 abstained. The non-permanent nations were rather random, countries like Lebanon and Gabon...

So, if you were king for a day, what changes do you implement on the United Nations to make it better, more relevant, more fair, etc.

If I were King for a day, I would be inclined to withdraw my country from the UN...

The UN is about as well run as our Congress. You may take that in any sense that you wish.

I don't know if you can. Too many countries with too many agendas.

You are king and all nations will obey you for one day. Make it so. :)

(Although I agree that no real changes will probably ever happen)

Meh. Why should only big countries have influence? Non-permanent members are fine to be random nations every once in a while. I think the whole enterprise has outlived its usefulness, but it'd be replaced with something else.

I dunno. I'd be inclined to abolish most everything these days, but I realize that's not exactly feasible.

Turn it into a big gameshow where the nations compete for the right to vote on issues.

You mean this is not how it works today?

Libya was on the human rights board just a few years ago weren't they? I thought they legitimately won the Weakest Link to get that spot.

There should be a big Plinko board where a nation drops the chip down and it lands in the vote.

Why do only big states have influence in Congress? The answer is in the question.

Wouldn't that make it United NATION, singular? All countries have agendas because, well, people in general have agendas. Groups of peoples have agendas. If all nations agreed on a greater good, we just assume have one happy world government. But since that isn't the case... That we can agree, even if not in a timely enough way, to military action to hopefully save lives is good enough.

I didn't say I didn't understand. I was just disagreeing that the only relevant countries are large ones, whether or not it's true in practice or not.
