I Dont Wanna Mow
 

My yard needs it. Ive been using the excuse that the yard had a bunch of branches and stuff from when I cleaned out the tree line in the back. But I burned most of that last week. Neighbors are mowing (jerks :) ). My wife wants it done. Im out of excuses.

I know this feeling well. I just bought a used riding mower to help with this exact thing. It has. I sort of want to mow today even though we don't need it quite yet. I might do it.

Broke mine out Friday night. Guess that's a sign I'm getting old that I mowed on a Friday night.

I really don't like mowing. Given the choice, I'd shovel snow over mowing the yard. My theory is, with snow, once I'm done, I won't need to shovel again until the next snow-- could be weeks, months.

But grass, if I mow today I know I'm doing it again in 7-10 days.

I am trying to convince my wife to let me get a used rider. I dont mind doing that much when Im riding. But pushing it is just not much fun.


And I prefer shveling snow as well.

My wife actually said I should look for a used riding mower, but our yard is mainly level so its not so bad.

Plus my son will be turning 5. By the time he's 10, he'll be ready to cut grass...and I had to use a push mower so he will too.

I'd rather not mow than mow. But I'd rather mow than most other chores. Time to myself. Outdoors. It could be a lot worse.

When there's a lot to be done, I'll volunteer to mow.

True, but especially here in North Carolina during the summer, you gotta get the mowing done early or else face doing it when it's 90 with ferocious humidity (and sometimes you aren't going to be so lucky because it'll be 90 by 10 AM). Rain can be a blessing and a curse because it'll cancel mowing days, but the work will be that much tougher when you do get a chance to do it. Wet grass is the bane of my lawn mowing existence. Just chokes the mower and having to restart it gets to be a tiresome thing after a while.

I say absolutely mow the lawn. It looks much better clean shaven. And if you absolutely must, there's always the merkin!

I always let it get extra long before the first mow of the year. I actually like to see it start to go to seed simply to let the yard get really established before it starts getting cut. I have a neighbor who has done his twice already, and mine still hasn't gotten cut.

I passed multiple people out cutting their yards yesterday in Pittsburgh, the first truly nice day we've had this year. It's like they couldn't wait to do it. Sickening.

I'm with Dutch here. I guess it makes sense with the age spread on the posters these days, but do people on here not like to have a manicured lawn? I take a lot of pride in my lawn, particularly the front lawn, and having it look as nice as possible - as well as with the landscaping.

To each his own I suppose. When I rented, etc I was similar to most people posting here, but now I like the process and the result of mowing the lawn.

If this thread had been posted on Facebook, I would be liking the fuck out of it.

Let your grass grow about 10 inches high.

Purchase an endangered species. (salamander, toad, turtles are all on the list)

Let the wife, HOA, city or other entities that you cannot cut your grass for fear of killing an endangered species.

If any of the above complain, notify PETA of your plight.

You may have a really ugly yard, but you no longer have to mow. :)

That's me to a T. I'd rather not do any chores but if I have to, mow is towards the higher part of the list.

It's the back yard I can't use the rider for with all the crap back there, damn kids! :)

Yeah - it's a small part of our business, but it's going well. People here are coming round to the idea (or getting lazy, or a mixture of the two!)

A lot of inner city gardens are small (30-40sqm) and for £2,000 - £2,500 they can get 10 years of doing nothing and it looks & feels great!

You don't have to mow!
