I Miss TCY
Yeah, yeah, I know this thread is destined to be overlooked by the great majority of posters, and I know there's an FOF/TCY section here...
...but has anyone done a search for their old TCY dynasties here and just started to get homesick for what a great game this was? I just did, and while I realize there were some loopholes (become an academic powerhouse and by default your team will, too) and less than fun aspects (hiring scouts for individual positions (?) comes to mind), the game itself was great. I know Jim is pretty much an enigma here, and TCY2, if it's even been worked on will never see the light of day, but I still can't think of what might have been. If anything, a lot of the great dynasties (cthomer's Rutgers) and camaraderie (my groupthink dynasty with N.C. State comes to mind - I still remember the stud runningback, Orlando Macri) just remind me of how much fun the original game was. Yeah, it can't compete with fudging a bank statement or anything, but the game was great. I guess that just shows how old I am. |
TCY is how I found this place. As such it's responsible for the SLO Burn, 4 fingers and an ace, the 1981 GEFL champion San Francisco 49ers, Godzilla Blitz's X-Com Dynasty and several other fun things that I've contributed to over the years.
I miss it a lot. |
I miss TCY too. Great game - was hoping against hope for a TCY2 for so many years, but now I've moved on.
|
I'm confused - has everyone been banned from ever playing TCY again?
|
No, we're not banned, though I've probably gone through a few PCs since the last time I played TCY, so I would be hard-pressed to find my licensing info.
However, going back to the original is almost like heading back to the old hometown and looking up an old girlfriend. The memories are there, but so are the three kids, the neck brace and the dead-end job at the local convenience store. It's just not the same. |
:shurg:
You're raving about how great the game is. Is it magically not good anymore? FOF 2007 is what.. 5 years old? I still have a blast with it on a daily basis. A good game is a good game. |
TCY is the best college football sim..
I still play it to this day, I'm running a husker dynasty. (Duh) I've found a way to run a spread option offense. I can usually get my QB's 1500 rushing 2500 yards passing, that's if they stay healthy.. It would be great if Jim made a new one but if not, I can live with just TCY. |
I've given up hope for a new TCY, FOF, or EHM. :(
It makes me sad just to say that.... Those were some great games, I couldn't even begin to tell you how many hours...days...months I wasted simming just one more week. Little Texas - What Might Have Been by WBRNewMedia |
Myself, Blade and Ardent had one of the most fun dynasties I've ever been a part of. That game was freaking tough and such a joy to play.
Remember TCY helper? That was a MUST for me. :) |
Shut the fuck up and start your own dynasty thread.
|
TCY is still the best College Football sim out there, TCY2 would be a dream sim, but if it never happens TCY will always provide enjoyment.
I still hold out hope that Jim may make a new version and I don't even believe in Unicorns. |
Maybe I'm missing something, but I see no reason to rule out a TCY2 at some point.
As for the original - great game, got a lot of enjoyment out of it, but the things that bugged me about it built up to enough of a head that I think I'd have a real hard time picking it back up. For the time it came out, it was a terrific sports sim. Given what's out there today, it falls short in a lot of ways. As a means of comparison, FBCB2 is a better execution on the sports sim genre, and as much as I'd love to play a college football sim, FBCB2 is simply a better game and occupies my sports sim niche for the foreseeable future. And yes, for MizzouRah - TCY Helper was a must-have for anyone playing TCY. Anyone know if there are any similar utilities for FBCB2? |
