With 6 on the bench and 1 spot for injured reserve.

Each team will be given $200 for the auction. This money does not carry over to the season so you should spend it all.

Each team will be given $50 for waivers. This dollar amount can be utilized in trades. Waivers will work like this:

In a Free Agents Acquisition Budgets (FAAB) waivers system, each manager receives a dollar amount to place blind bids on waived players. The manager with the highest bid at the end of the waiver period claims that player and that bid amount is deducted from the team's acquisition budget. If multiple managers place an equal bid on a player waiver claims will be processed in reverse order of standings and each successful claim moves a manager to the end of the waiver priority list. Waiver period will last Sunday-Tuesday with final bids in by 11:59 PM EST.

Prior to next season each team will be able to keep up to 3 players (QB, RB, WR/TE). If a player is kept their salary will increase by $10 per year. (For example, you bid $50 for Chris Johnson and win the auction for him. If you keep him next year, his price would be $60. If he is kept for a second season in a row, his salary would be $70, etc.) A FA pickup can be used as a keeper for $11. If a player is kept for 3 seasons, that player will become a FA in year 4.

Please post if you have any rule changes that you would like discussed.

I'd like to look into tweaking QB scoring to the following:

Scoring
Passing
- 1 pt. per 25 yds.
- 5 pts. per TD
- (-2) pts. per INT
- 1 pts. @300 yds
- 3 pts. @350 yds
- 5 pts. @400 yds

I'll work on getting rosters up with salaries from last year soon.

Scoobz0202 07-28-2011 09:54 PM

I was actually going to suggest maybe 4 pts per td for Qb's, but I could be on board for 5.

Did we ever have a discussion on the flex position instead of the 3rd WR?

Lathum 07-28-2011 09:55 PM

I don't believe we did, but we can vote on it as a league if the majority wants to get rid of the 3rd WR.

Lathum 07-28-2011 10:04 PM

how are free agents that we want to keep determined?

I picked up LaGarret Blount last year and want to keep him

We decided to go $11 if you wanted to keep a FA ($1 +$10).

Should we limit teams to 1 FA keeper per team or call it smart GM'ing if the owner was able to pick up 3 studs during the season the prior year?

Lathum 07-28-2011 10:20 PM

I say smart GMing, it certainly wouldn't be fair to introduce now.

Danny 07-28-2011 10:24 PM

Im in again and signed up on yahoo

Arles 07-29-2011 12:59 AM

I'm in again. Gotta repeat the title ;)

spleen1015 07-29-2011 09:00 AM

I'll play if there is an opening.

Danny 07-29-2011 09:14 AM

The problem I have with changing scoring though is our values are set based on last year's scoring.

Arles 07-29-2011 11:50 AM

I agree with Danny. Also, with as many teams, I like having the flexibility of using either a RB or WR for that 3rd spot (2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR). I can see doing that, but downgrading QB value hurts the keeper aspect of QBs.

Scoobz0202 07-29-2011 01:26 PM

Is there a way to see how the scoring by position was in our league last year?

Doug5984 07-29-2011 03:11 PM

I'll be back

Doug5984 07-29-2011 03:13 PM

and I would be for changing # 3 WR to a flex, keeping the scoring the same, and can keep as many FA's as you want (smart GM-ing)

If you log into the league, there is a drop down menu on the right hand side of the screen.

You can review rosters there.

Take Andre Johnson (1216 yds, 8 TD's, 186.6 pts) and Calvin Johnson (1120 yds, 12 TD's, 201.2 pts) as an example and compare them to Jason Campbell (2387 yds, 13 TD's, 8 INT, 211 pts) and Jon Kitna (2365 yds, 16 TD's, 12 INT, 225.25 pts).

I like having QB's weighted a little more heavily to get away from those standard RB dominated leagues, but IMO this setup goes too far in that direction. What if we adjusted the QB scoring and only added $5 this year to their salary if they are a keeper?

Arles 07-29-2011 05:44 PM

QBs are always going to score more. Even if you knock the value from 6-4 for passing TDs, Kitna (195 points) is still more than Andre Johnson (187).

What is important is having a difference between top, middle and lower tiers by position. Heck, kickers score a ton but there isn't that much of a delta between them over time.

Under the current system, #1 Tom Brady (3900, 36 Td, 4 INT) is worth 418, compared to #23 Kitna at 225 with 2365/16/15. If you knock down TDs to 4, then Brady is 340 and Kitna is still 195. That difference goes from a 46% scoring advantage to having 1 to 23, down to a 41% advantage. To compare that to HBs, the #1 HB (Foster) scored 355 compared to the #23 HB (Thomas Jones) who had 139. That difference is over 60% in total points at HB. For WR, it's almost 50% between 1 and 23. Knocking QBs down from 46% to 41% makes getting a top QB almost useless - esp if it costs you at RB and WR.

If this year's 23rd best QB is going to be within 60% of the top QB (ie, Brady), it makes a lot more sense to get the top HBs and forget QBs. The #23 HB figures to only be within 39% of the top guy. In other words, Kitna+Foster gives you 550, while Brady+TJones gives you 479. In the current scoring, Kitna+Foster are 580, while Brady+Jones are 557 - a much fairer distribution.

Lathum 07-29-2011 06:08 PM

huh

spleen1015 07-29-2011 06:15 PM

Arles, your post is exactly why I was able to make the playoffs 3 years in a row after drafting Aaron Brooks in the 8th all 3 years when he was the starter for New Orleans.

kingfc22 08-01-2011 11:14 PM

We still have 6 teams yet to respond. Going to send out PM's to each of them and will set a deadline of Thursday 9 PM PST.

At that point I will start adding from the waitlist.

Arles 08-01-2011 11:39 PM

Honestly, I'd be ok with 4, 5 or 6 points for passing TDs. My post sounded a little too "heavy" for the purpose. I just feel the QB position is mitigated in leagues with 4 pt TDs, but I have been in many and it's no biggie.

panerd 08-02-2011 07:59 PM

I won't be returning, have too many fantasy football teams already and feel like I won't put any effort into this league. It was fun though, loved the auction, hope whoever gets my team doesn't get mad about what I left for them. I am a big believer in going for it all in keeper leagues and almost had it.

EDIT: King thanks for running the league!

Very good post and why I prefer the same scoring for QB's as last season. This is also the basis of value based drafting which I use. Of course I have Aaron Rodgers which you could say biases my opinion, but one of the reasons I signed up for this league (and the fofc hardcore league) is that QB's have more value than a typical league where the best strategy is to load up on RB's and draft a QB or two in the middle rounds. Honestly, I don't care for typical league scoring.

Cool. I definitely wanted QB's to have an extra edge in this league, but was just thinking that it was too much last season.

I'm okay with keeping it the same.:D

Arles 08-03-2011 02:41 PM

Since I added Gore as a FA for $1, does that mean it would cost $11 to keep him? Or would I have to add $10 to the winning draft bid (even though it wasn't by me)?

I think we are going by the last transaction (aka smart gm'ing). But we can vote on it once the league fills up.

Danny 08-03-2011 09:24 PM

While the jealous part of me says you should have to pay the original auction price, I vote for you to pay $11 as that rewards smart GM play.

Danny 08-03-2011 09:25 PM

Though I wonder if going forward, free agent pickups should have the dollar value that was paid for them in waivers as opposed to being $1 automatically.

Danny 08-04-2011 03:41 AM

Also, when are keepers due? I just need to decide which WR to keep.

I think that's a good idea (of course I also picked up Gore for nothing ;) ). I would say even half the FA money spent is better.

As to the dollar keeper question, I thought that was the logic for having the injured reserve spot. If you draft a Ryan Grant or Gore and they get hurt, the logic is to use the IR spot to ensure no one else can pick him up as a cheap keeper the next year. It adds some strategy to holding on to injured top picks.

Is there a limit for keepers? I know they cost more, but if someone happened to get 4 good $1 guys and a "cheap" draft pick - that could really upset the balance for the next year. I'm really on the fence here, but do we want to set a limit for keepers at 3? Just curious to what people think.

Danny 08-04-2011 07:50 PM

I thought the limit was 3 overall and no more than 1 at a given position?

Yes, the IR spot was there for that reason, but some GM's may have not paid attention. Thus you lucked out.

From the rules:
"Prior to next season each team will be able to keep up to 3 players (QB, RB, WR/TE)."

Existing owners have 3 hours left to state their intentions then it is open for anyone to fill in the remaining teams.

I'd say keepers need to be submitted 72 hours prior to the draft which I have currently reserved for the 28th if I recall correctly.

Arles 08-05-2011 10:57 AM

Cool, glad to see the 3-man limit is in. So, I take it I can prepare with the idea of keeping Gore at $11?

Also, are we officially going from 2-HB, 3-WR to 2-HB, 2-WR, 1 HB/WR?

Doug5984 08-05-2011 01:12 PM

For our keepers are we allowed to keep more than 1 RB, or WR- or do we only get 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR?

I'm okay with changing it to a Flex position.

I'd like to keep it one at each position, but am open to opinions.

kingfc22 08-05-2011 09:47 PM

7 open teams. Please see the first post for which teams they are.

Posts 7-10 contain all the final rosters.

First come, first served!

Danny 08-05-2011 09:51 PM

Also, for people who are considering signing up remember that you don't have to keep players. If you pick a bad roster, you can just go into the auction completely fresh without any bad values.

On the flex option, I prefer to keep it 3 WR. That's how I would vote, but it's not make or break for me.

I say once we fill up, we vote on the rosters (Flex or no Flex).

Danny 08-05-2011 10:14 PM

King when listing the rosters, maybe put an (open) next to the team name to help people see the roster of the teams that are open.

Panerd looks great with Mcfadden for $17, even if you only keep him, but Rivers is a nice option as well.

DT has Roethlisberger for $17, and Holmes for $17 as some good values.

Bed Intruders had Vincent Jackson at a real nice $11.

Stagga Lee's has Jammal Charles who despite the $51 price tag should still be a real nice value.

Norv Turner has a nice value on Dez Bryant.

Team noop with some amazing value on Ahmad Bradshaw.

Nuggets with great value on Mccoy and solid value with Freeman.

Overall each team has something to offer.
