Just felt it here in Yorktown...

Brother felt it in DC..

wtf?!

sabotai 08-23-2011 12:58 PM

Felt in Jersey. House shook for about 5 seconds.

QuikSand 08-23-2011 12:58 PM

Yowza, really felt it in Annapolis MD.

Swaggs 08-23-2011 01:00 PM

Same here in Morgantown, WV.

Can't say I have ever had that experience before.

Swaggs 08-23-2011 01:01 PM

USG is estimating a 5.8 earthquake centering somewhere near DC

Logan 08-23-2011 01:02 PM

Felt in NYC.

GrantDawg 08-23-2011 01:02 PM

5.8-6.0 near Richmond, Virginia. Felt all the way in Toronto.

Thomkal 08-23-2011 01:03 PM

wow was just reporting in the hurricane thread that we just had the first earthquake I've ever felt in the Myrtle Beach area in 10+ years of living here.

flounder 08-23-2011 01:03 PM

The ground rumbled here in Lynchburg for a good 5 seconds.

Radii 08-23-2011 01:03 PM

Felt it near Raleigh, crazy.

Kodos 08-23-2011 01:03 PM

Felt it here in New Haven. First time I've ever actually felt an earthquake.

yacovfb 08-23-2011 01:04 PM

Felt it strong in charlottesville

Rizon 08-23-2011 01:04 PM

Sounds like a few of you just got your shakecherry popped. Grats.

GrantDawg 08-23-2011 01:04 PM

Nothing in Atlanta. Just saw tweet that it was bad enough in Philly to cause the fire alarms to go off in a hotel.

spleen1015 08-23-2011 01:04 PM

I hope everyone is alright.

I was on a conference call with folks in NJ and they had to get off the call because they're evacuating the building.

Easy Mac 08-23-2011 01:04 PM

Felt it in Greenville, SC. I honestly thought I was tapping my foot and just not noticing it. Then I thought I had vertigo.

Philliesfan980 08-23-2011 01:05 PM

Felt it here in Malvern PA... as many others have mentioned, that's the first time I ever felt an earthquake.

Ksyrup 08-23-2011 01:05 PM

I believe this is a sign that the TAMU move to the SEC will be announced very soon.

Didn't Colorado have a big earthquake today or yesterday? Big for them anyway.

Weird, didn't feel it in Charlotte.

GrantDawg 08-23-2011 01:08 PM

Saying it was very shallow at 3.8 miles. Would cause more shaking.

Double weird. Our office in Charlotte said they did.

albionmoonlight 08-23-2011 01:08 PM

We must be perched on a big rock or something, cause we felt nothing.

Marmel 08-23-2011 01:12 PM

Hartford, CT - felt it

ISiddiqui 08-23-2011 01:12 PM

There be fault lines everywhere... at least it seems there were no serious injuries...

wade moore 08-23-2011 01:14 PM

Magnitude 5.9 - VIRGINIA

So that's about 100-120 miles from where I am at work. Felt it BIG time. I think ones we had like a 2 something in VA and I thought I might have felt it.

There was no mistaking that this was an earthquake. I'm still a bit mentally shaken by it. I think I physically tensed up and my neck is now killing me.

Wild. My house is even closer to the center of it.

Easy Mac 08-23-2011 01:15 PM

Per ABC News:

Quote:

A man eating lunch in Charlottesville, Va., described his house tipping and plates shaking as he ate lunch.

Do you think they actually talked to a man eating lunch in Charlottesville, VA, or they just have a stock quote they use?

Surely wasn't anything big in NYC (the guy at the conference table next to me didn't even feel it) but the back of my head has been hurting me ever since too. Weird.

MacroGuru 08-23-2011 01:17 PM

Supposedly the boss felt it here in Buffalo.

rafini 08-23-2011 01:17 PM

Definitely felt it in Virginia Beach. My brother up near Erie, Pa said they felt a little shaking.

Bad enough the shut JFK down. I just saw a video of a live meeting in NYC that showed them getting really shook. I guess it all depends on where you are.

Toddzilla 08-23-2011 01:24 PM

I've got reports from friends from Columbia SC to Ottowa saying they felt it.

Here outside of DC, it was quite the roller coaster. First it was a general rumble and then it got more intense, perceptibly up and down. Outside the house I could barely feel it.

It's strange the helplessness you feel sitting there as your house shakes around you, not even that severely, knowing you are powerless to stop anything in your house from breaking (or the house itself breaking).

We've got some good sized cracks in the ceiling in a few places.

The good news is, the beer is okay.

GrantDawg 08-23-2011 01:26 PM

Just got report from a friend that lives very near the epicenter saying his house is fine. Not seeing much damage near him.

sabotai 08-23-2011 01:26 PM

Patton Oswalt on Twitter: "Not to panic anyone in NYC, but a screaming John Cusack just drove by in a limo that was missing a door."

JediKooter 08-23-2011 01:31 PM

5.9 pfft...

sabotai 08-23-2011 01:32 PM

Just saw this on Twitter

"There was just a 5.8 earthquake in Washington. Obama wanted it to be 3.4, but the Republicans wanted 5.8, so he compromised."

GrantDawg 08-23-2011 01:33 PM

Lame 24 hour news cycle. "We just received a report the president just took a PHONE CALL."

cthomer5000 08-23-2011 01:33 PM

Felt it in central New Jersey... Maybe 10 seconds long? Wondered if i was having a seizure at first until i realized things on my shelves were wobblin'

Pumpy Tudors 08-23-2011 01:34 PM

Apparently, 698 of the 700 people at my work in Pittsburgh felt it. The two who didn't were myself and my boss. We were sitting right next to each other when another co-worker alongside us started freaking out. When we asked her why she was losing her mind, she told us she felt the ground shake. He and I felt nothing at all.

Alan T 08-23-2011 01:34 PM

Didn't feel anything in Massachusetts

Were you hovering above the ground at the time?

Not even Chuck Norris could shake Pumpy.

JediKooter 08-23-2011 01:37 PM

Sports Digs had this last week.
