Lee Roy Selmon Passes Away After Suffering Stroke, According To Report - SBNation.com

One of my all time favorites. RIP

Turns out he may not have died after all. Members of his family say he is alive and in serious condition.

I was out for beers with some of the guys from work when I heard the news. My wife texted me to tell me that Lee Roy had "had a stroke"...and then she texted me back to say that reports were coming in that he passed away. So we ordered a round in honor of the late, great, Lee Roy Selmon.

Then later, when our beers were mostly empty, my wife texted me back and told me that he might still be alive and that his status was not clear. Upon hearing the news, one of my friends exclaimed, "Another round, for the resurrection."

Hahaha. Great story, Dutch.

One of my very first football cards. Godspeed Lee Roy, whether it be to good health or the sudden, final, sensory-deprived blackness of death.

Hopefully the former.

Rest in Peace Lee Roy. And get well soon!

Evidently his own PR people were too quick to announce his passing.

NFL: Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon Of Tampa Bay Bucs Suffers Stroke

My all-time favorite Lee Roy Selmon pic...

Hope he has a strong recovery.

Impressive career, on and off the field. Both a college and NFL Hall of Famer and, perhaps more quietly, he basically built an NCAA football program from scratch at USF. He was an assistant AD at USF when they implemented their football program and then become the AD and got them first into CUSA, helped get their facilities built, and then got them into an AQ conference in the Big East.

Seems like a pretty important detail to overlook...being alive and everything.

How does that happen? "Man, that guy's laying there on a hospital bed - he ain't talking or nothing, and living people normally say things....call the papers charlie, he's definitely dead."

His condition has been upgraded from dead....to alive!

It's official now. RIP.

Missed this update. He deserves two threads.

It wasn't easy to block him. Wasn't easy to kill him either. A fighter until the end.

From everything I understand we lost one hell of a great human being.

Rest in peace, Mr. Selmon.

Meet the man once before a Bucs game while visiting my grandparents in Florida in the mid-90s. Seemed like a great guy, but you could really see how the fans loved him. Many just stood there long after getting his autograph just to be around him.
