It's such a big story, this will give them an extra week to talk about it.

JediKooter 10-12-2011 01:38 PM

The Chargers have a bye week as well. I'm sure Norv Turner will find some way to try and lose a game they aren't even playing in.

Butter 10-12-2011 01:39 PM

Someone associated with the Steelers being an arrogant jerk? Seems so unlikely.

Where does it say no one asked a question?

It doesn't, you're right. He paused, then hung up, they don't say what happened during the pause.

Passacaglia 10-12-2011 01:55 PM

Actually, it says:

Tomlin then said "Anybody got questions relative to this week?", paused, and then hung up the phone while the next question was being asked.

Passacaglia 10-12-2011 01:56 PM

What it doesn't say is what the question about the 2007 playoff game was. I wonder what burning questions they had about it.

jeff061 10-12-2011 01:59 PM

I thought I was going to agree with Tomlin, the media can be fucking stupid. But that was a pretty benign question.

Its Jacksonville, im sure its the accomplishment of the century. Still, not sure why it set him off.

Word out of Seattle is that the Seahawks are restructuring Aaron Curry's contract (again) to make a trade happen.

Quite sad that the kid hasn't been able to find his way in the NFL game but hopefully they can get something halfway decent for him (hell, anything at this point is a win I suppose). Only rumored team I've seen tweeted thus far is Oakland.

And the roster remake/competition theme continues in Seattle.

stevew 10-12-2011 03:28 PM

I think someone like NE or another 3/4 squad could still harness ability from Curry. Just tell him to come off the edge and blitz the QB every down.

Ronnie Dobbs2 10-12-2011 03:30 PM

Raiders got him according to Shefter, two picks (one in 2012 and one in 2013) but probably not amounting to much. Wow, quite the fall.

Looking back at the Top Half of the first round of the 2009 draft, perhaps the Lions going 0-16 was a blessing.

1 Lions Matthew Stafford QB
2 Rams Jason Smith OT
3 Chiefs Tyson Jackson DE
4 Seahawks Aaron Curry OLB
5 Jets Mark Sanchez QB
6 Bengals Andre Smith OT
7 Raiders Darrius Heyward-Bey WR
8 Jaguars Eugene Monroe OT
9 Packers B.J. Raji DT
10 49ers Michael Crabtree WR
11 Bills Aaron Maybin DE
12 Broncos Knowshon Moreno RB
13 Redskins Brian Orakpo DE
14 Saints Malcolm Jenkins CB
15 Texans Brian Cushing OLB
16 Chargers Larry English DE

When healthy Stafford has shown some flashes of being a franchise QB, though I'd like him to be more consistently accurate.

I think Jason Smith is really struggling.

Not sure how good Tyson Jackson is.

Curry's bombed out so far.

Sanchez has been a decent, serviceable QB for the Jets.

I know Andre Smith has struggled with injuries, but has he amounted to much?

Other than a few flashes this year Heyward-Bey hasn't amounted to much.

No clue about Eugene Monroe.

Raji has been very solid for the Packers.

Crabtree has been hurt and temperamental.

Maybin a complete bomb.

Moreno has been ok. Not great.

Orakpo was great pick. I think Jenkins has been fine. Cushing lit the world on fire as a juiced up rookie but has sort of fallen off the map since, and Larry English has been very pedestrian.

Travis 10-12-2011 03:52 PM

So a 7th and a conditional mid rounder the following year. More than I expected and guessing Carroll will be very happy to have an extra 3rd-5th rounder to play with in a couple years.

Here's hoping he figures it out well enough to bump that conditional pick up as much as possible but unless he finds a different way to approach/play the game mentally I'm not holding my breath.

I continued through, just rushed the last few all together.

Groundhog 10-12-2011 08:36 PM

Just read Curry's stats on pass defense. Wow, he's like a QB power-up.

Butter 10-13-2011 05:06 AM

Andre Smith has been slightly below average right tackle so far. He has not been very good, but he has time to improve. Frankly, nobody expects the Bengals to do anything (really EVER but especially this year), so he's got this whole year to settle in after having mostly a lost year last season.

Great minds...

Yesterday afternoon when I first read the Curry stuff in this thread, I went to NFL.com to review the draft that year.

Wasn't Curry seen as the safest pick of them all?

This year he looks a lot better. He's in far better shape than he has been previously. I don't think he'll be a dominant RT, but he'll be good as long as he stays fit.

Butter 10-13-2011 06:34 AM

He does look better this year, but he's far from dominant. I think considering where he was taken, he would have to be considered a disappointment.

That's better than the outright bust he appeared to be last year.

Crazy thing is they actually look like they may start the year 5-2 (I realize Seattle at home is not easy but it sure beats at NE or at Pit) After that I only really see two-three more winnable games but who knows this team always seems to kind of come out of nowhere when the expectations hit rock bottom. Didn't think I would ever live to see the day when we are heavy betting favorites against Indianapolis.

I think the Bengals could pull out a few more wins. I think the only games that would be certain losses are the 2 Baltimore games, and the Houston game. I'd say they will probably split with Pittsburgh.

They have a better path ahead of them than Cleveland. The way the Browns are playing I'm just hoping for 4 or 5 more wins.

stevew 10-14-2011 01:00 AM

Saw that Brandon Lloyd was in the block. I also don't see why Carolina doesn't move Stewart at this point. It appears that Rivera was told to air the fuck out of the ball in order to get people interested in an otherwise boring team. Of you aren't going to grind it out with 2 really good backs, I'm not sure why you keep Stewart. Goodson is probably an adequate 3rd down option, and DeAngelo just got run over by a Brinks truck.

Not big enough to air in Chicago apparently. I was pretty sure we'd get to see the Lions, since the Bears are on Sunday night, and Lions/49ers is a big matchup, with a team in the same division as the Bears. But we get Packers/Rams, I guess because it's got two teams in states bordering us here. What a crock.

“I don’t care if I have two, three cameras on me. I don’t care if I have penalties. It doesn’t matter; I’m going to let it all out. I don’t care what you guys write or what the commentators say. I’m just going to play football. That’s what I’m best at. I’m best when I play emotional. I’m best when I play with passion. You guys are going to see that on Monday Night Football. I don’t know if it’s throwing a football 15 yards in the bleachers, or getting a 15-yarder [penalty], or punting the ball and getting thrown out of the game. But something is going to happen. I’ll probably get kicked out after the second quarter.”

I find it odd he's "just going to play football", when everything he describes is exactly not that
