Daniel Day Lewis as Abe Lincoln

Guy is a maniac.

RomaGoth 12-01-2011 12:04 AM

Nah, beard isn't long enough and where is the stovepipe hat?

Qwikshot 12-01-2011 04:14 AM

"...four score and seven years ago...I drink /your/ milkshake!!!"

Comey 12-01-2011 07:38 AM

This is nuts...I was having a conversation with my parents on Saturday night over dinner, and the discussion of the current situation in Hollywood about recycled stories came up. I held the opinion that there are plenty of historical stories that would make excellent documentaries and movies, and pointed to Team of Rivals as an example. I did not know this was in the works.

I'm quite excited for this. It is totally awesome.

brand recognition is the scourge of hollywood. i was talking to someone the other day if any movies from the 70's (taxi driver, deer hunter, deliverance etc.) would get made today.

that's the great thing about day lewis. attaching his name to a project gets shit made.

DaddyTorgo 12-01-2011 08:12 AM

This is going to be legend....wait for it....dary

spleen1015 12-01-2011 11:08 AM

The cool thing is he has been using nothing but his Lincoln voice since March.

stevew 12-01-2011 11:15 AM

Hopefully it's 6 times better than J Edgar.

Julio Riddols 12-01-2011 11:35 AM

If I was a director, I would call him first every time I filmed something.

JediKooter 12-01-2011 12:38 PM

What I want to know is...will critics give this movie a four score?

Weird seeing him as Lincoln in blue jeans and sneakers.

JonInMiddleGA 12-01-2011 01:26 PM

At least we know this movie has a happy ending.

Well the side ending is that you traitorous bastards in the South still got yours.

And the nation has paid dearly for that tragedy ever since :(

True, things would be much nicer if we didn't have to deal with you all :)

And I'm sure the same feeling the other way around. Only thing we'd be losing out on is athletics.

I'm reading Harry Turtledove's series where the South won so it's something that's been fresh on the mind lately.

Which book series is this?

Starts with How Few Remain in 1881 where the Union and Confederacy get into another scrap and then the Great War Series goes off that one.

spleen1015 12-01-2011 02:46 PM

Thanks! I think I am going to check it out.

RomaGoth 12-01-2011 02:52 PM

When did Sean Connery start looking like Abe Lincoln?

Great series (or pair of series) which stretches over a long period of time. Off-hand I'd say it's maybe HT's best work with characters, you really get a sense of them aging naturally.

lungs 12-01-2011 03:08 PM

I'm in the middle of American Front right now and I've thought they've both been excellent so far though I'm not some kind of literary scholar or alternate history scholar.

Easy enough to follow but still fairly complex is how I'd describe it.

They sure are milking this "Daniel Day Lewis is Lincoln" thing, but the Poster is pretty much brilliant ...

Groundhog 08-23-2012 08:59 PM

Wasn't Lincoln some dude who killed vampires?

Depends on which movie you're talking about........

Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (Video 2012) - IMDb

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012) - IMDb

CrimsonFox 08-24-2012 10:30 AM

But why is Lincoln eating a bunless hotdog and wearing blue jeans?

Johnny93g 09-14-2012 05:39 PM

DDL is incredible

Same thing I thought toward the end of the trailer. Also, if you close you're eyes, it sounds like Clinton doing Lincolns lines during a Green Shawshank Wonderful Life Redemption trailer.

Looks fruity. I do love DDL usually though. I just prefer him angry and deranged.

Matthean 09-14-2012 06:37 PM

My only issue with it is that it looks like a copy/paste job by Spielberg on how to get a Oscar nomination. The trailer is very similar to War Horse.

Somehow I don't think Bill the Butcher quite works as the motivation here. :D

I suppose Spielberg could have thrown in a scene at the end where Lincoln meets Davis in prison after he's captured and shouts "I drink your milkshake!"

Flasch186 09-14-2012 10:17 PM

Im hooked, lined and sinkered

RainMaker 09-14-2012 10:46 PM

I'm in. DDL is amazing and I'm a sucker for historical movies.

cartman 09-15-2012 12:41 AM

Were there milkshakes in the 1860s?
