NFL Draft thread 2012
Never to early to start talking about the draft now that we have the order set.
Obviously it starts at the top with INDY and the Manning situation. Do they take a QB or trade down? If they keep the pick will it be Luck or surging Heisman winner RG III? The mutterings have already begun. Thought about my post back in October and my position still stands. I hope the team that drafts #1 trades Luck, just so I can grasp how much someone is willing to pay for him. I mean, we can guess, but its a fuck ton. Literally. A FUCK TON. Carson Palmer is worth a 1 and a 1/2???? Seriously? LUCK has to be worth a FUCK TON. I would start negotiations with this years top 10 first rounder, the next two years first rounders, then ask about the teams current pro-bowlers. Take a couple of them, a few other picks/young prospects and see how it shakes. This trade could make the Ricky Williams / Hershel look like a bargain. Andrew Luck takes the field tonight and his play in the Fiesta bowl against OkSt. might be enough to solidify his #1 overall elite status. |
Not name guys like Kiper and Mayock, but CBS does a pretty good job of keeping their information updated

Well... the Colts did go against conventional wisdom many years ago by taking Edgerrin James over Ricky Williams.
I think the direction the Colts go really depends on whether Jim Caldwell is still the Head Coach. If he is then they keep Manning and try to grab some pieces to win now. If Caldwell is gone then all bets are off. |

I really don't see a RB going fourth to Cleveland. They are such a "dime-a-dozen" proposition any more that you'll be able to find someone similar in the fourth or fifth round. |
Quote:
They also have him going 5th to Tampa...so maybe I was wrong in saying they keep things updated. My guess they feel is Richardson is a top 15 talent, and those are the only 2 teams that seem a fit. He's also not including RGIII, whom I think the Browns would pick over a RB |
Quote:
They also have Washington taking a CB even though RGIII is still available in their mock draft. |
Pretty obviously the CBS pinheads meant to add in RG3 in one of those slots at 4/5.
|
Quote:
Would have to be four unless someone believes the Bucs are ready to give up on Josh Freeman... Not sure how much credence I give these mocks as one of them has listed Ryan Tannehill going seventh to Jacksonville. |
if the Rams go WR over the stud OT then they deserve to suck
|
Quote:
Rams need to trade down to someone that wants RG3. |
If I'm the Colts, I draft Luck # 1- let him sit for 2 years behind Manning, with the new rookie cap system I don't think it's a bad idea.... or could trade back a few spots and do that with RG3.
I don't think you pass on the opportunity to draft a "franchise" QB when yours is getting long in the tooth / injured. I don't know much about the Rams but would they go WR over OT? There offense desperately needs help- I'm an O-line type of guy, but getting a stud WR for Bradford would be great. For the Saints- I don't have to worry about the first round pick. Ours this year was/is Ingram. As it looks it'll be a very late pick, and I've been happy with what I've seen with Ingram so far, so I like it. |

I think Luck raises more questions tonight. He has been thoroughly unimpressive all year long, IMO. |
Quote:
No, they have clearly cloned Trent Richardson in a secret CBS laboratory. But maybe that will make him Bizarro Trent Richardson. Clearly this is what Lex Luthor has been working towards all along. SI |
Quote:
He had 2/3rd's of a WR the whole year. |
Quote:
My prediction is that Bizarro Trent Richardson gets taken before "real" Trent Richardson. |
I wonder if Indy's statement with them being comfortable taking RGIII means they think he will be more comfortable sitting behind Peyton and they want to avoid an Eli type issue. I think it would be fun to see Indy pick RGIII and see a mass chaos scramble for Luck at #3.
|
Quote:
I think with Indy cleaning house, they'll take Luck #1. I imagine that'll probably be required of whoever Irsay hires as coach/GM. |
Quote:
Was just about to post the same thing after seeing the breaking news. |
Quote:
I can see Tom Clements being in the mix in Indy as either offensive coordinator or head coach. |
Bill and Chris Polian have been fired by the Colts. So the Colts off season begins. I'm very, very, happy with the decision.
Bill brought a Super Bowl to Indy and for that he deserves to be in their ring of honor but I feel the blame of the failings of the team around Manning deserves to be placed primarily on Bill and his son Chris. I also question whether Bill will be willing to choose Luck over Manning if it comes to that and it's in the best interest of the franchise given his age. |
Quote:
Someone beat me to it. |
Quote:
How can you possibly say a guy who has over 3000 yards, 35 TD's and 9 picks has been thoroughly unimpressive? Especially considering outside the O-Line he doesn't have nearly the talent other BCS schools have. |
Quote:
Because an extra year will always give people a chance to talk themselves out of believing someone is something special. Always wanting to move on to the next best thing -- RGIII in this case. |
Hopefully with the Polians getting the boot leads to some good changes. I am surprised by this and I am worried that the Colts will go back to what they used to be.
I hope some changes are made that improves the defense. Really interested to see where all of this leads. |
Chris Polk from Washington has declared.
Dream scenario for the Bengals? DeCastro with the Raiders pick, CB in the early-mid 20's, Polk in the second round. I would love for this to happen. |
Yeah, I'd love G, CB/S, RB out of the first three picks.
|
I think you're almost better off grabbing a few middle / late round talents at RB than getting an early rounder. Especially these days when you need a couple running backs to play. Look at the Redskins for example, they look really good going forward with Helu and Royster for almost nothing.
|
So for the Bengals they would probably be better off getting two OL early and giving some later picked RB's a better group of blockers.
|
Quote:
They really need another corner and a big hitter at safety. |
I know we Bengals fans are used to talking about the draft at this point but hey...in case you haven't noticed...we're in the playoffs! Let's save the draft talk for later. Yes...even in the draft thread.
|
Quote:
Well, I hope he's a STUD. That being said, I won't lie.. Blackmon looks really good opposite Lloyd if the Rams can sign him. We do need OL though, in a big way. |
Quote:
No, No, No, No, No The Browns had better not waste another damn pick on a QB when they have no play makers anywhere else. I'm fed up of watching a group of WR who couldn't catch a cold destroying whatever hope this team has of moving the ball. |
Quote:
Shouldn't your dream scenario be for the Bengals 2nd first rounder to be #32? That's my dream Steelers draft slot every year. |
Quote:
+1. I would think somebody like Blackmon would be a far better pick. |
Quote:
If Luck goes 5-35 with 5 INT's, he'll still be the number one pick. All of his questions have been answered long ago. (by the way, he won't be quite that bad) |
Is Kearse from Washington related to Jevon Kearse? I think no, but google was screwy. Might be that Javon had a brother with the same first name.
|
Quote:
Not unless it is a distant relationship. |
Quote:
Really sad to see him go. I wore my #1 jersey proud, he was a joy to watch for 3 years and I think he'll be a hell of a back for someone. Would love to see the Giants drop JAcobs and draft Polk. |
Quote:
I think if you can get Luck or RG III, you go for it. This is the league of the QB right now and getting a stud one can completely change your franchise. That doesn't mean reach for a mid level talent like Gabbert or draft a dumbass like Jamarcuss, but if you can get a guy with a good head on his shoulders and top level talent, you go for it. |
Quote:
His numbers are nearly identical to last year's, which were outstanding, and he's playing for a new coach. Any nitpicking at this point is going to be because people are looking for reasons to not like him. Similar to what Manning went through his senior year. Luck is also playing with very little talent around him on offense. What he's done at Stanford is remarkable. |
Quote:
Maybe instead of drafting your 3rd QB in about 6 years you actually try building around one. |
Frye and Mccoy were mid round talents at best. Those are not QB's you build around
|
But if they got RG III then they would have someone to build around for future drafts. I think anyone who thinks Mccoy is anything but marginal / backup level talent is kidding themselves.

Super Bowl winning quarterbacks in recent history
2011 Aaron Rodgers 2010 Drew Brees 2009 Ben Roethlisberger 2008 Eli Manning 2007 Peyton Manning 2006 Ben Roethlisberger 2005 Tom Brady 2004 Tom Brady Yes, in years before that there was more variety with guys like Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer winning SB's, but the league has changed a lot since then and I think a premiere QB is pretty much a requirement now. |
Two of whom weren't even first rounds picks and one plays on a different team.
|
Quote:
Well Brees' was the first pick of the second round. |
Quote:
I'm a Luck fan obviously, but that isn't exactly true - he lacks skill players, but Stanford will have 3 offensive first round picks, IMO (Luck, DeCastro, Martin) - the OL is big and strong. |
With all the QB talk, it should be noted that Andy Dalton is the first rookie QB drafted outside of the first round to lead his team to the playoffs.
|
Quote:
Yeah, that's what I meant about talent. His O-Line is pretty solid. He doesn't really have anything to throw to though. As was mentioned during this game, Baylor's slowest receiver would easily be Stanford's fastest. Luck is about as much of a sure thing as you'll see at QB. I think anyone that wouldn't take him #1 overall is crazy. |
