I'm With Stupid - IWS #183 Results
Ladies and gentlemen, here are the results from our latest iteration. My insincere apologies for the delay in assembling responses, but the good turnout is encouraging overall.
Anyway - here's the rollout: 1. Who will be the first non-quarterback player selected in the 2012 NFL draft? I had hoped there might be a decent spread here, but the mocks seem to have narrowed the field, especially for IWS purposes... 29 - Matt Kalil 16 - Justin Blackmon Trent Richardson, Ryan Kalil 2. How many points will Alabama score in the national championship game? This was a deliberate ploy on my part - breaking this into two questions was intentionally designed to pull people away from the repeat score, but the 6/9 remained a strong entry, bowing to the power of the expert IWS meta-players out there. 11 - six points 10- ten 8 - seventeen 4 - fourteen 3 - thirteen, twenty-eight 2 - twenty, twenty-one seven, nine, sixteen, twenty-four 3. How many points will LSU score in the national championship game? 9 - nine points 7 - twenty 5 - ten, thirteen, fourteen 3 - six, seventeen, twenty-one various As an aside, I'm intrigued by the meta-IWS strategy of numerou people sending in the same score for both teams. Certainly a viable way to play the IWS game, even if 6-6 or 10-10 are both impossible outcomes... which I find kind of cool in a strange way. 4. What player will gain the most total yards rushing over the course of the NFL playoffs this year? Eliminator, but might have been a great question without RR 37 - Ray Rice 2 - Frank Gore, BJGE, Michael Turner Arian Foster, Pierre Thomas, Isaac Redman, and presumably in an odd twist of team cap management Maurice Jones-Drew 5. How many passing yards will the NFL leader in the category have next year? Also an eliminator, but the sort I am okay with. Stupid loves him some round numbers, the rounder the better. Forget that, and you're properly cooked here. 36 - 5,000 2 - 4,800, 5,100, 5,200 4,000, 4,900, 5,106, 5,500, and whoooooooaaaaa nellie 50,000 and no I don't care that the 50,000 number is obviously a decimalized brain fart, the comma reinforced the intention 6. Forecast the total number of NFL Superbowl rings that will eventually be earned by these three players: Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, and Robert Griffin III Love this question, especially the winning answer. I think the meta-answer here is zero, since it's just tough to settle on any specific number... but one shouldn't overlook the power of suggestion... THREE quarterbacks, list ends with the roman numeral three... and voila, winner! 19 - three rings 12 - zero 6 - one 5 - two 4 - five four And so, we have our annual embarrass-and-flatter-a-thon rollout... Ouch...

Since I seem to get requests every so often for this - here's the spreadsheet I used to do results here.
IWS Results Spreadsheet for Excel |
On question #1, I figured Stupid would go with the household name at the glamor position, not the unknown O-Lineman only showing up in mocks. Alas. And I should have thought of the repeat score avenue on LSU / Alabam, I went with 6 for each figuring Stupid would hone in on one number. Finally I can't believe Stupid didn't just stick with ZERO as the obvious answer on #6. Stupid was too smart for me here.
Thanks for running this and getting it back on track, Quik! |
grats SI, and thanks for getting this going again Quik.
I went with 10-10 for LSU/Alabama. Silly me, the score of the previous meeting > round numbers. |
Wasn't quite a perfect score as I tried to outthink stupid and did 0 instead of 3 for the last one, but the spreadsheet checks out :)
I used to love coming up with IWS questions back in the day. Time to come up with some new ones this week. SI |
If only I had been playing Make Mine Rare.
|
Congrats SI.
Question 6 knocked me out as I figured it would. I went with 1 over 0, bah! |
Thanks for getting this rolling again!
|
nice sterling!
I must admit I hate the "scoring" questions. :) Might as well use random.org |
Thank God for Grover (kept me out of last place!). Thanks for being the Indianapolis Colts to my St. Louis Rams.

Happy to oblige. |
Well done SI, Kalil over Blackmon got me.

Went with the IWS logic there that people would go with the score of their previous game this year. :) Also glad that Stupid stayed with the 5000 round number and picked up on the threes in that Super Bowl Ring question. |
Wait, where is MY score? =)
I feel left out =( |
Quote:
Ah,that's a good tip thanks! I flip flopped between Zero and 3 many times. :) I figured the cynical forum as it is would vote zero. :) I was thinking the nice round number would be better in 5000 yay. |
Quote:
Yeah, I'm stunned at that one especially given the lengthy conversation we had about this in the draft thread. |
Who's the poor bastard who picked Ryan Kalil?
|
I thought that was awesome! Ryan Kaleaf would have been bonus points

That would have been me, not paying attention to what I was doing. I deserved my last place. Thoroughly deserved it. |
did you not get my entry?
|
If only I had followed college football enough this year to know that LSU and Alabama was a rematch. Stupid apparently had that info.
|
Bloody hell, the only one I thought I got wrong was the yards - I had 5,000 instead of 5,200. SO CLOSE!
|
Damn. I think the only answer I didn't get right was the first one, and I think I had Blackmon. Soo close.
|
Quote:
please don't delay for 3 years...:) |
The correct answer was Arian Foster, fools! Sheesh. I am surprised my vote for him was the only one. And considering he's doing just what I thought he would... :( I'm not stupid enough with my answers, damn it, I have to think stupid wouldn't know that the Ravens would have a bye in the first round.

BTW, shameless plug for #184

Yay for me predicting that the NFL passing leader next year will toss for 50,000 yards.
It's a Quarterback league, fellas ;) |
Is Mike Leach coaching in the NFL now?
SI |
Nicely done SI

First of all, Stupid was sure that Houston would be out in one round. Unrelated to that. After watching half of that game last night, I totally understood that six to nine thing. |

I think I was just proving how stupid Stupid could be. |
