Bay Area FOFC Concert
So yours truly is taking the stage this month in what may be my last ever performance. I'm in a band that plays '60s cover tunes. The band is made up of my parents (Dad is drums and vocals, Mom is vocals), their two best friends (Ed is the lead guitarist and lead vocalist, his wife Debbie is on vocals as well) and I (keys and bass, as well as vocals). The show is a cancer benefit, teamed with Relay for Life. All* proceeds will go to the charity (the asterisk is because the venue has put a service charge on the tickets, but the bands aren't seeing any money), and there will be a raffle and silent auction as well. My mom has put together pretty much the entire event, and she already has an autographed Stephen Curry jersey, Joe Pavelski jersey, and a blank Sharks jersey autographed by "Pavelski, Couture, Thornton, Burns, farraro, deharden, megin, frat and 1 more I don't remember aaaaaaaaah" for the silent auction. There are rumors of potential athlete participation, but I'm not holding my breath.
Here are the details of the concert: Sunday, February 19th Doors open at 4:00 PM 5 Bands: Tennessee River Band (Alabama tribute band) - these guys are pretty damned talented. My dad used to be their drummer. Old School Rock 'n Roll (That's us) Chrome Deluxe (Blues Band) California Blues Machine (...Blues) Cornerstone House Band (Christian Rock) Tickets are $20 for pre-sale, $30 at the door. Anyway, thought I'd throw this out there as I know we have a few locals on the board and I would love to fill the house for what is not only a good cause, but what should be a great time. To buy tickets, head on over to www.thesadlerack.com - the event is called Relay for Life Rockin' the Rack Against Cancer and there should be a link to it right on the front page. Here's our set list, so you have an idea of what we're playing: Kicks No Time You Really Got Me Surfin' USA Downtown I Wonder I'm a Believer I Want to Hold Your Hand Summer in the City The Letter Venus Back in the U.S.S.R. Sounds like a great time. I've loved covering songs from the same era... there's a lot to choose from!
|
Yeah. We've actually got over 50 that we play well, these are just the ones that made the cut for this show. We only have a 45 minute set, so gotta pick and choose. I'm pretty bummed that we're not playing a few of them...We Gotta Get Out of This Place and Pleasant Valley Sunday are probably my favorites that didn't make the cut.

What's the venue?
|
The venue is the Saddle Rack. It's a country bar in Fremont, actually a pretty cool place to take in a show. They have three separate bars, a mechanical bull and a barber's chair for those ready to imbibe lots of alcohol (they put you in the chair, you tip your head back, and they pour alcohol straight into your mouth). If you get there early enough, the kitchen is still open and they have pretty good food if I remember correctly. The band list up above is in reverse order - the Alabama tribute band will be the closing act, we're second from last and so on down the list.

Bump. Only a week and a half left to buy your tickets for cheap :)
|
Sounds like a great event that your Mom worked really hard to put together.
Lemme see if I can get an autographed Eli Manning jersey for you :D |

And a final bump. We've added a Jim Harbaugh autographed football to the auction list!
Should be a good time, we've sold 200-ish tickets so far. |
The show was a rousing success! We haven't tabulated the silent auction take yet, but as of now without it, we have raised $8,999.36 for the event.

Awesome job!
