IWS #186--RESULTS

This was a fun one to run and I think it was a good concept, though I think maybe not the best execution. As the results show, we ended up having three questions that were pretty close two way battles, with no other real contenders. I would have rather had more of a spread, but that's the way it goes. But with 52 participants IWS is strong.

Questions
1. Other than Tom Brady, name a New England Patriot.
Rob Gronkowski 24
Wes Welker 22
Bill Bellichek 2
Aaron Hernandez 1
Vince Wilfork 1
Benjarvis Green-Ellis 1
Tom Brady 1

Stupid was split between the TE and the previously dependable WR.

2. Other than Eli Manning, name a New York Giant.
Victor Cruz 19
Justin Tuck 6
Brandon Jacobs 6
Hakeem Nicks 5
Ahmad Bradshaw 5
Osi Umenyiora 4
Tom Coughlin 3
Jason Pierre-Paul 2
John Paul Pierre 1 (I did not give this stupid JPP credit.)
Eli Manning 1

Stupid loves to salsa.

3. Other than Harry Potter, name a character from the Harry Potter series.

Hermione 28
Voldemort 14
Dumbledore 4
Snape 3
Ron 2
Harry 1

Stupid goes for the girl.

4. Other than hockey, name a sport Canadians like.

Curling 30
Football 10
Lacrosse 4
Baseball 4
Tennis 1
Ice Skating 1
None 1
Hockey 1

Stupid knows curling.

5. Other than Google, name an internet search engine.

Yahoo 34
Bing 17
Google 1

Yahoo-oo. Not the best question with only three responses given.

6. Other than FOF, name a text sim.

Football Manager 25
Out of the Park 23
Bowl Bound 2
Championship Manager 1 (I didn't give credit to FM here because more than one set of answers for FM distinguished that they were not choosing CM. It would not have affected results.)
FOF 1

Another one where stupid was really split.

Abe Sargent 02-09-2012 12:42 AM

I started reading the answers, and I was like ,awesome, I probably won. I got top answer for every question save one where I was only two back. That easily wins most IWSs. Then someone got a perfect score, and two others were two back and perfect otherwise. Ah well. Good game all!

CrimsonFox 02-09-2012 03:51 AM

I wish Stupid didn't like sports so much.
But then again maybe that's why he's stupid ;)

Good job logan :)

and THANKS digamma and Britrock! good times!

Raiders Army 02-09-2012 05:04 AM

I can guess Eaglefan's responses. Nice!

:D  That made my day! :) Although this means that I'm truly the loser here and EF merely a smartass.

Ah, you were the other Welker over Gronk but everything else pefect :)

Logan 02-09-2012 07:05 AM

I had a good feeling about this one. This will be a tough chore to follow, as I said in the original posting, I thought this was an awesome idea. Will try to work on something over the weekend.

mauchow 02-09-2012 07:11 AM

I had Welker and Football intead of curling otherwise perfect, ah well! Good job stupid-head!

QuikSand 02-09-2012 07:13 AM

I usually have at least *some* instinct about IWS questions, and I kind of like being totally baffled (even when it sinks an otherwise perfect entry).

The "other Giant" question for me was a stone wall, I had no real theory on whom it ought to be, and even now that I see what Stupid said, I still don't get it, why Cruz in a soft runaway? I completely expected a scattershot of Bradshaw, Nicks, Cruz, Pierre-Paul and Tuck.

Perhaps I'm missing some cultural reference that makes Cruz stand out from that group? (I don't get the salsa reference either, so that's likely) It is just that he was a notable out-of-nowhere guy who posted a big season this year?

mauchow 02-09-2012 07:27 AM

Cruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz

Precisely. He was an undrafted kid from UMass who is a Jersey native. Earns his spot during the preseason and becomes breakout reciever for them. Celebrates by doing a salsa dance after every touchdown.

jbergey22 02-09-2012 08:51 AM

Last time I do a search for 'most popular Harry Potter characters' and feel its accurate. I was Snaped.

Ha

I must say I was rather impressed with stupid in this one. I would have never guessed stupid for actually knowing what curling is and somewhat surprised he/she chose Gronk and Cruz. I was under the impression stupid was usually a few years behind current form.

sterlingice 02-09-2012 09:05 AM

I think the salsa thing was a reference to a tv station having him salsa during Media Day

SI

CrimsonFox 02-09-2012 09:07 AM

I was going to say Football. But then thought stupid would say Baseball because stupid would know that there is baseball in canada more than football and that stupid would be confused by football vs soccer even though there IS canadian football but it's less known.

And the giants and patriots...ugh...I just went for the biggest running back on each team that I could find. I really knew nothing about either team :(

albionmoonlight 02-09-2012 09:12 AM

I wonder if the winning score being over 300,000,000X the losing score is some kind of record.

General Mike 02-09-2012 09:33 AM

You know, I thought about going EagleFan's route. Would have been interesting at least

PurdueBrad 02-09-2012 10:05 AM

Damn close! Too bad my hatred of soccer got in the way. Although I keep thinking that I'll eventually have to try out Football Manager, especially since that is the question that got me.

DanGarion 02-09-2012 10:31 AM

I had Welker and OOTP. I considered Gronk because he was in the news so much but choose Welker. And well there had just been the OOTP announcement...

digamma 02-09-2012 11:06 AM

DanGarion and PurdueBrad,

Your entries were among the earlier ones, so it was fun to watch you flip flop in the lead as Welker and Gronk votes came in. Then FM stormed back at the end and Logan (one of the later entries) prevailed.

Logan 02-09-2012 11:32 AM

I was thisclose to going OOTP over FM, which would have tied that question and I'm guessing tied the game a few ways.

Butter 02-09-2012 11:47 AM

I forgot to enter this... even after I had looked at the question and thought of the answers I would send in. I had 5 of the 6 nailed, but I would've said "FBCB" for the final question. So I don't feel so bad now.

Julio Riddols 02-09-2012 01:46 PM

Curling is the best thing about the winter olympics.

TRO 02-09-2012 02:11 PM

I'm very surprised that only 1 entry went with the "exception" entry. I figured there would be a few more rebels than that.

I had Nicks (on my Fantasy teams) and Voldemort which did me in.

britrock88 02-09-2012 02:41 PM

Well run, digamma. Now I'm just excited to get back in on the guessing.

Grover 02-09-2012 03:00 PM

I didn't even think to go with FM since it's had the 2D and 3D engine for years. I don't consider that to be a classic text sim.

corbes 02-09-2012 06:34 PM

I'm impressed with stupid's knowledge of the Giants. I looked at the media at it was all Eli and Tom Coughlin.

Dutch 02-09-2012 06:40 PM

Who the fuck is hermionie?

claphamsa 02-09-2012 06:49 PM

wow... thought i did better than i did

CU Tiger 02-10-2012 12:37 AM

damn only thing i missed was OSi instead of cruz.

And I had cruz but was watching sportscenter and they were interviewing osi and I thought...that name is catchy....GRRRR.

But it's impossible to spell and Stupid hates spelling ;)

Warhammer 02-10-2012 09:41 AM

I went with the coaches in the team questions since I figured there was so much fellating of them prior to the game stupid would go with them.

MIJB#19 02-10-2012 01:52 PM

I knew I should have gone with Yahoo, Bing was the spoiler for my otherwise perfect entry. The Cruz runaway surprised me too, though, I figured it would be a three-way battle between Bradshaw, Nicks and Cruz.

EagleFan 02-10-2012 02:58 PM

Wow, I had hoped that others would realize there are no wrong answers in IWS and there was already an answer given in each question. I guessed wrong. Stupid knows rules are for suckas!

;)

EagleFan 02-10-2012 03:03 PM

What I was thinking of going with would have landed me bottom half anyway it seems:
Welker
Cruz
Hermione
Lacrosse
Yahoo
TCY (surprised that didn't get any responses)

corbes 02-27-2012 07:04 PM

Did I miss IWS 187?

Logan 02-27-2012 07:24 PM

No, my fault...been busy but will try to formulate something soon.

Logan 03-12-2012 09:27 AM

Update...at long last, I completed the list of questions for the next round. I will be posting it in a couple days for the sake of my mailbox, as I need my PM notifications to actually be effective for the Top Gun draft.
