Samsung HDTV remote sensor not working!
 

Bah! My tv is only about 6 years old, but the receiver seems to be acting funky. I've tried different (not POSITIVE they are new) batteries, I've tried the Direct TV remote that I use upstairs (works fine), and I've called Direct TV and had them do some stupid tests which they determined the problem to be a faulty remote sensor.

The remote will ONLY work if I'm standing at about 4 O'clock from the TV itself and NOWHERE else. I can turn the TV off, use the volume, but cannot turn it on and again, it ONLY works from this 4 O'clock position about 4 feet away. Maddening!

What are my options? I'm remodeling my kitchen and don't want to buy a new TV, nor should I have to with it being just 6 years old!

TV repairman? I was more hoping that there was either some device I could purchase which would bypass the TV's receiver, or some easy part I could replace myself?

I did a Google search, but it kept finding stuff on actual remote controls.

your TV doesn't have buttons on the front to push? I know it's a pain to get up to adjust minor things, but its cheaper than a repair buiild.

This is a forum of guys who grew up playing football simulations...do you have any idea how lazy that makes us?

I dunno if this is the exact part, but if so it looks like it would be relatively easy to swap out.

Also, 5 years or so old, its possible that your TV has a ton of dust build up inside of it. Especially if you smoke or have pets.

If you can pull your model # off of the back, I would think you can probably find some info by googling the issue. After several years a model has developed pretty much every type of malady, so you might be able to troubleshoot it relatively easily.

Look on the back of the TV....see if it has an "IR Input"

Well thinking more....grab an all in one from wally world first make sure its not the remote going out

Oh yeah...agreed. Older TV maybe...before they started making shit so freaking cheap.

You probably dont want to hear this either, but manufacturers today expect a 3-4 year product life cycle. I actually had a rep for Sony (yeah I'll name drop now) tell me that customers preferrd Sony because they ahd shortened their product life span and forced customers to adapt to new technology quicker than they otherwsie would....

That was about 45 days before thier name ame off my building...
