Mel's Overused Draft Phrase
I'm tired of him saying that practically every player was a "Potential Top 10 Pick Going Into This Year." What a meaningless phrase. Random McScrubby from Podunk University in Division III is a "potential" top 10 pick before a season begins.

I know what you mean, hasn't he said that about almost every single guy so far?

I like how every coach and GM when asked about their pick says "we didn't expect him to be there when we picked"
MEL: Coach Lewis, how surprised are you that Palmer fell to you at #1?" LEWIS: Well, we certainly didn't expect him to be at #1 where we usually pick every year, but it was a very pleasant surprise and we hope that Palmer does better than our recent QB selections in round 1, which I guess could be worded "I hope he's better than mediocre". We thought the team with the #0 pick would jump all over Palmer, but obviously that wasn't the case. MEL: Palmer was definiately a potential top 10 pick in the 5th round before the season started, so it'll be interesting to see how the Bung....I mean Bengals mess this up. Back to you Boomer!" |
EDIT: I thought the topic was "most overused draft phrase." Mel doesn't actually do this, but EVERYONE else does:
I hate pluralisms. they are a lot better after adding a Jerome McDougale. uhh, is there a line of McDougle clones available in the draft? |
Upside Potential?

Mine was value. I've never heard the word used more than by Kiper.
