Tropical Storm Debby

I'm no weather expert, but I would think if this sucker just sits there right off the coast of Florida basically all week long, as the latest projections are saying, that it could be really, really bad for that area.

CraigSca 06-25-2012 08:14 AM

We're in central FLA, so it's not as bad as the people on the west coast, but it's raining here A LOT. While they're usually of the smaller variety, it also looks like we could be under a tornado watch until early 2014. Kind of ridiculous.

Ben E Lou 06-25-2012 08:24 AM

Yeah, I'd think flooding could be a major concern if it continues to just sit there.

cartman 06-25-2012 08:25 AM

One of my co-workers just left yesterday for a two week vacation at Port St. Joe. That doesn't bode well for them.

Let's hope we don't see this again:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Juan_(1985)

A Category 1 Storm that was one of the most destructive ever simply because of sustained rains over a single area.

The slow speed of this storm is definately worrisome. One of the two routes I take to get to work in south Tampa was 2-6 feet under water.

There's a road under them thar canoers!

My morning and afternoon (optional) commute along Bayshore totally flooded...forcing all traffic on to the Lee Roy Selmon expressway. 40 minute commute = 1 hr and 30 min this morning. That's about the worst of it so far.

Easy Mac 06-25-2012 10:19 AM

I saw the forecast yesterday about it. 7 of the 8 models had it pretty much going straight over Florida. There was 1 model that had it heading straight at New Orleans.

Is this the rule now, that at least 1 model has to be pointing at New Orleans, just in case?

Yes..and one that does a 180 and heads for Galveston...you can never be too sure!

Tampa rarely gets burned by the winds, it's all the water that gets pushed up into the bay...

Dutch 06-25-2012 11:30 AM

Yeah, the only nice thing is that Tampa generally has good trainage...unlike New Orleans...so the water levels will subside relatively quickly.

Here's the Phillies spring break field in Clearwater. An article that I pulled this from suggests it's not a photoshopped version of the Phillies season in general.

I still think Debbie does Dallas.

JonInMiddleGA 06-25-2012 12:51 PM

Whatever it's gonna do, I hope it's gets on with it. My son has a scout trip to the Keys (SeaBase, for those familiar with it) starting on Sunday.

Just heard from him. They have punted and moved the vacation to his parent's place in North Carolina.

Dutch 06-26-2012 08:33 AM

So the "eye" of this storm is just off the Florida coast...but all the rain is over northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. The "eye" is as close to Tampa as it's ever been and we are sitting here enjoying bright blue skies, sun, and heavy gusts. Kind of weird.

Logan 06-26-2012 09:01 AM

With the turn east I'm wondering if my week-long trip to Bermuda starting on Sunday could be affected.

stevew 06-26-2012 09:25 AM

Where is "Debby" an acceptable spelling for "Debbie"? I feel like Ive never seen the "Debby" spelling used, and it would easily turn into a "you can't spell your name crack at school. I guess that's bullying now.

stevew 06-26-2012 09:27 AM

-Dola

Debby Boone apparently the only person of note that uses this name, and she hasn't been culturally relevant in 30-40 years.

It's a good week to paint the house...talk about some great ventilation. :)

Julio Riddols 06-27-2012 12:06 AM

In the end, people will remember Debby as someone who waited for her time to come, cried a lot when it didn't, and then got all depressed and went panhandling before drifting off into an ocean of blues.
