FOFC Greatest Band Challenge Part II -DRAFT OVER

Gentlemen,

Anyone can draft a team of top shelf rock stars. But can you mine gold from the next tier? Internet fame and indie cred await. Behold it's the-

FOFC GREATEST BAND CHALLENGE PART DEUX: DEEP CUTS

You know the rules. The REVISED categories look like this:

Main Categories

Lead Singer
Lead Guitarist
Bass Guitarist
Keys
Drummer
Other Instrument
Songwriter
Manager/Producer
Cover Song

Sub-Categories

Rock
HIP HOP/JAZZ/R&B
COUNTRY/METAL
Female
21st century
1990s
1980s
1970s
1960s & Earlier

9 categories and sub-categories. We did away with POP and LABEL. Deal with it.

ALSO TO DEAL WITH: FEMALE can no longer be used as a COVER SONG. You're gonna have a chick in your band. PLAN ACCORDINGLY

We also expanded the HIP HOP and COUNTRY categories. Should provide some much needed flexibility as the talent pool shrinks.

It should go without saying but every individual selected in the initial draft is OFF THE BOARD. That list will be posted below.

As always common courtesy and the honor system apply. Please PM the next drafter after your selection. There's no time limit but if you're going to be away for a while let us know. We are reasonable people.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Suicane75 07-18-2012 11:54 AM

Awww man, why am I always at the bottom!

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 11:58 AM

it was either 6 or 7. figured you'd rather have the double shot. gladly switch with you if ya like.

Suicane75 07-18-2012 12:04 PM

Nah, I'm good with the turn. I'll most likely be drafting for funsies as much as competition this time around anyway. I need an opening act as wild as my headliner.

Chief Rum 07-18-2012 12:21 PM

Haha figures, I would be first. :)

Chief Rum 07-18-2012 12:36 PM

Okay, here we go...

1.1 Paul Simon, Songwriter, 1960s & Earlier

This was a real struggle with me. I hate having the first pick, so many directions to go. It's even harder when the best of the best are already off of the board.

Simon is considered one of the best songwriters ever, and he fits with the Cover Song I am angling for.

Go ahead and rip my pick now, lol.

Suicane75 07-18-2012 12:40 PM

No sir, I think it's a fine pick. Would have fit right in with the first draft which I think is a good litmus test.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 12:44 PM

how can you not like 'mrs. robinson'?

Chief Rum 07-18-2012 01:04 PM

Bridge Over Troubled Water is usually the first one that comes to mind for me, but Mrs. Robinson is terrific.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 01:30 PM

glad i'm not up for a while because i don't have the slightest idea who to take

Chief Rum 07-18-2012 02:06 PM

I actually have some idea who I want to go with next, but it's a long way before I go again. I wouldn't give much odds they will still be around when it comes back to me.

britrock88 07-18-2012 02:11 PM

Hoping to have at least as much fun with this draft as the first draft.

Julio Riddols 07-18-2012 03:38 PM

sorry bout the delay guys.

1.2 - Harry Nilsson, Songwriter, 70's

Grover 07-18-2012 03:54 PM

I am here, didn't miss my pick, awesome.

thesloppy 07-18-2012 04:44 PM

Those are both great songwriter picks that I thought about when you guys were doing the last round.

Julio Riddols 07-18-2012 05:34 PM

Nilsson was the guy I was gonna take until I decided to go with a male lead guitarist.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 06:00 PM

nilsson schmilsson

Julio Riddols 07-18-2012 06:01 PM

He makes putting lime in a coconut sound like an excellent idea.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 06:04 PM

that album is so f'n good

Grover 07-18-2012 06:06 PM

Can't believe Fox isn't around to pick :-P

Suicane75 07-18-2012 06:10 PM

I got my first 4 picks bouncing around in my head and trying to decide the order on best odds of them being there. Arghhh.

Don't like the Nilson pick, not this early.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 06:11 PM

i have no clue who i'm taking

Grover 07-18-2012 06:18 PM

I know without a shadow of a doubt who my first two picks are.... if they're there.

Ditto.

Also love Nilsson Schmilsson.

Julio Riddols 07-18-2012 06:38 PM

I'm going seat of my pants this time. Whoever strikes me as a good choice when my picks come up, that's who I'll take.

Chief Rum 07-18-2012 07:34 PM

I just bumped this to get everyone excited that maybe the next pick was made.

Seriously, though, raise your hand if you thought it would be CF that would bring us to a grinding halt, lol. Yup? Yeah, no one.

Actually, hope he's not in a bad spot right now or nothing.

Grover 07-18-2012 07:40 PM

Did someone try and PM him? I'm sure his inbox is full...

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 07:50 PM

just how these things go. everybody's here except the guy on the board. never fails

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 08:36 PM

hey grover, chelsea's playing seattle on espn2.

Grover 07-18-2012 08:40 PM

Sick! Thanks for the heads up!

Grover 07-18-2012 08:43 PM

CF was on the thread and then disappeared. I am a sad panda.

PAGING CRIMSONFOX

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-18-2012 10:10 PM

welp, his pm's are stuffed. i sent him an email. hope everything's okay

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-19-2012 09:09 AM

we're gonna give crimson till one o'clock est then brittrock's on the clock. i know i said no time limit but this is supposed to be fun and waiting indefinitely for someone who can't be contacted is the opposite of fun.

if/when crimson shows he can catch up immediately.

Grover 07-19-2012 09:11 AM

I'll be sending you a list before I head to work.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-19-2012 12:15 PM

brittrock's on the clock

Julio Riddols 07-19-2012 12:17 PM

Chances are everyone's list is pretty diverse, so I doubt Crimson will lose a guy he had in mind.. But yeah, hopefully things are good on his end.

Grover 07-19-2012 12:21 PM

Sent a list to Norv. I'll check in when I get home from the movie around 3:30, but the list will be in use until 5 tomorrow afternoon.

Good luck to everyone trying to finish in 2nd behind me.

Young Drachma 07-19-2012 12:31 PM

1.3 George Harrison, Songwriter, 60s and Earlier

This pick, thanks to the one-per-act rule, will take a few other great options off the table, but George is too good to pass up. The tougher question was whether to slide him in as my guitarist or my songwriter. In the end, his songs all sound so distinct that I decided he'd have a bigger impact at songwriter.

My favorite early George tune with the Beatles:

His songs are always interesting. Chords don't progress the same way. His musical arrangement always - ALWAYS - sets the emotional tenor that he's going for with his lyrics. Paul himself said that George's songwriting ability surpassed his and John's songwriting ability when George wrote "Something"; consider the source of that statement to understand how meaningful it is.

By the time he had left the Beatles, George had so much material built up (due to his approximate 2-song-per-album limit with the band) that he was able to put out the quadruple album All Things Must Pass in 1970, within months of the breakup. Then, in 1971, came what has to be considered one of the greatest concerts of all time, the Concert for Bangladesh. Here, George cemented himself on even footing with his bandmates once and for all.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-19-2012 12:58 PM

not at guitarist? that's crazy!
