hmmm. have to give this some due diligence. i will say i think brittrock's band would top the adult contemporary charts in perpetuity.

britrock88 07-23-2012 03:10 PM

Geez, there's a lot to like in this draft. Round 3 after this? :D

i'd be up for it. but at the rate we're losing drafters it would just be you, me and grover

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-23-2012 04:14 PM

there's a lot of vitriol on this board today and frankly this is the only thread i feel safe in. as such:

Chief: rock solid top to bottom. my only hangup would be bowie @ producer. i think eno was instrumental to a lot of his popular success. but i'm just picking nits.

Julio: you stole carey and i hate you. wish you'd have picked a producer over abe grossman. love your cover

brittrock: hat's off. you stuck to your guns. atrist's artists. again, the critical darling.

Grover: insanity. a hard rock foundation produced by kanye covering hotel california... would it work? who cares, melora creager is fucking hot.

Sui: once again my early favorite. you picked a theme and stuck to it. that gets points in my book

Maple Leafs 07-23-2012 04:37 PM

You guys let me know when you've done enough drafts to have Axl Rose picked so I can come vote for that band, OK?

Suicane75 07-24-2012 04:32 AM

Bump.

1. Grover
2. Suicane
3. Britrock

I think these are all great looking bands - a lot more distinctness to each one as i can tell the guys went after a particular sound. I think Grover gets the best leadman out of the bunch, an amazing songwriter, and a fantastic and underrated guitarist. Suicane has a really interesting feel to his band, and while they're not my favorites, they clearly work great together, I think it's a great mashup. Britrock is similar - it's not necessarily the band I want to listen to, but it's a great combination of talents for the sound he's going for.

rockboy70 07-24-2012 09:55 AM

1. Grover
2. NTO
3. Chief Rum

I have my own list of what would be a great band amongst the musicians who haven't even been picked yet but I won't post it unless there's agreement that there won't be a third round.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-24-2012 12:38 PM

fire away cuz there won't be a 3rd rd. i really like ann wilson's voice so no regrets there but in hindsight it probably would have been more fun to do something like

bob marley
clapton
sting
thelonious monk
coltraine
bill bruford
cover: red red wine

or sabbath's war pigs. that would probably make a good reggae cover.

I was trying to find a way to work in Bob Marley, the Edge, Danny Elfman and Bradley Nowell, among others. Shocked neither Marley nor James Brown were picked.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-24-2012 12:47 PM

or keith richards

Grover 07-24-2012 12:49 PM

Rory Gallagher > Clapton and Richards.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-24-2012 12:50 PM

or jeff beck

Chief Rum 07-24-2012 12:58 PM

Or even BB King

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-24-2012 12:59 PM

or angus young. see, we could have 4 or 5 more drafts

corbes 07-24-2012 01:50 PM

Among the names I might consider at this point:

Vocals: Nina Simone, female
Guitar: Taj Mahal, 21st century
Bass: Tony Levin, 1980s
Drums: Russell Baptiste (Funky Meters), jazz/r&b
Keys: Dr. John, rock
Other: Col. Bruce Hampton (nothing), 1990s
Songwriter: Allen Toussaint, 1970s

Any band with Lemmy has to be a winner.
Remembering that Brendon Fraser film
Who would win in a fight between Lemmy and God? Lemmy..no wait God...Trick question Lemmy is God
Add Ann Wilson singing and Clapton on Guitar that would be an amazing band to go see,

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-25-2012 11:36 AM

bamp

we'll keep this open till thursday evening.

Julio Riddols 07-25-2012 01:18 PM

Lets just keep drafting til we're reduced to finding local bar bands and making videos of them to upload just so we can use them in our band.

Autumn 07-25-2012 03:24 PM

You should hear my Aunt Maureen on the accordion!

britrock88 07-26-2012 12:34 AM

Julio makes 4! I've got a friend that'll join the board to keep drafting. That's 5!

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-26-2012 06:30 AM

shirley you can't be serious

britrock88 07-26-2012 04:03 PM

He's a musician, I sent him links to the first couple drafts so he could enjoy/share his opinion... he's riveted.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-26-2012 04:58 PM

i think the board is suffering from draft fatigue

Chief Rum 07-26-2012 05:04 PM

I'm gonna vote at some point, so you'll get another vote ar least.

I think the low vote total is the fact this is the second go around. Not as much interest. That's fine by me--the real fun was the draft itself, IMO.

NorvTurnerOverdrive 07-27-2012 10:12 AM

alright, i'm sticking a fork in this thing. and the winner is...

GROVER!!!

Congrats! pm brittrock to collect your subscription to highlights magazine and six dollar applebee's gift card

thanks to all the voters and participants. it was a lot of fun!
