2012 NFL Regular Season - Week 4: The Focus Turns to Football Now

Will Atlanta and Arizona continue to roll?

Will Green Bay fall to 1-3 or will New Orleans fall to 0-4?

Will Vick turn the ball over less than 4 times on Sunday night?

JediKooter 09-25-2012 07:11 PM

Will another nail in Norv Turner's head coaching career coffin be...nailed? Or is it hammered?

NorvTurnerOverdrive 09-25-2012 07:15 PM

i wish i knew how to quit you

spits in hand

JediKooter 09-25-2012 07:27 PM

You had me at 'i'.

Carman Bulldog 09-25-2012 07:32 PM

I don't know, it's kind of like watching a car crash at this point.

spleen1015 09-25-2012 07:33 PM

FOFC will watch because there's got to be something to complain about next week.

Thomkal 09-25-2012 07:35 PM

Could be a bit of a trap game for my beloved Cards this week. Coming down from the high from last week, all the extra media presence. Then Miami coming across the country just like Philly, but Cards have a Thursday game next against divisional rival Rams after that. Hope I'm wrong but just the way I'm feeling right now.

Vince, Pt. II 09-25-2012 07:48 PM

I don't know...without Reggie Bush, what exactly does Miami have for offense?

is he going to be out though? last I heard was that it wasn't a serious injury and he could play Sunday

CrimsonFox 09-25-2012 08:49 PM

Obviously I heard the results of the Seattle/GB game and how bad it was. Was THAT the only game that was so bad? How about the other ones?

I'm assuming ALL of the refs were substitutes.

2012 NFL Regular Season - Week 4: Replacement Refs take center stage...

Whoops...didn't see the other thread.

Sun Tzu 09-26-2012 10:16 AM

Dola...

Sun Tzu 09-26-2012 10:19 AM

I'd also like to state that I may have been right about the 49ers having beaten two potentially overrated teams in the Packers and Lions to start the season off. That said, I think there's such parity around the league that even teams that are "pretty good" just need to get hot at the right time *coughgiantscough* and they can bring home a championship.

As @mortreport is reporting, an agreement between NFL and NFLRA is at hand and both sides will work to have officials working this weekend.

Welcome to Earth!

I hear pictures that most would consider borderline safe for work could help your cause ;)

Sun Tzu 09-26-2012 11:44 AM

Rex Ryan has been talking up the 49ers like crazy. In his presser today, he said the his personnel department rated the 49ers as having 7 blue chip players, more than he's ever seen. He also said he hopes the crowd will be a major factor in Sundays game...because they're going to need it.

I didn't see that coming.

Jas_lov 09-26-2012 11:50 AM

Espn is saying the real refs are close to a deal! Get the best ones to Lambeau this Sunday.

Dutch 09-26-2012 11:53 AM

...and God help them if they fuck up too. :)

JediKooter 09-26-2012 11:55 AM

Won't they have to ref some games in the minors before getting into game shape?

How can they use replacements for the Thursday night game and real refs for Sunday? I would be pissed if I was the Browns and Ravens

I'm hearing NFLRA negotiator Scott Green has notified officials that a deal is not imminent. Stay tuned, obviously.

They can't. As I heard on the Dan Patrick Show last week, it's either all or nothing with the replacement refs. The real guys have to work on Thursdayto work Sunday as well.

Bellichek fined 50K

I would gladly sacrifice Norv Turner's head coaching job in lieu of paying that 50K dollar fine for Bill.

So...help me out...FOFC, what am I seeing here? Is Jennings the guy with only one hand on the ball???

OK, that angle sure does make it look like there was no other way to call the play. I haven't posted in this thread, but I've been in the camp that there was no way that should have been an TD. As quick as the play happened I don't see how the refs could have seen who actually had control of the ball at its highest point, they run over and see this and it's the only thing they could call. I've watched the replay several times and I'm still not sure if Tate did or did not have a hand on the ball at the same time Jennings did.

Crazy call, glad I didn't have to make it.

You beat me to that comment. If it had happened during the game, he'd have been kicked out (or should have been). You're supposed to miss a game for putting your hands on the official. Of course, a number of players have put their hands on the replacement officials and not been punished.

The worst part is that this is the second time Beli has dodged a suspension. He should have lost games to Spygate as well.

RendeR 09-26-2012 01:36 PM

Game was over, honestly if Belli fights it they really can't uphold the fine after game time can they?

How do you figure?

SackAttack 09-26-2012 01:42 PM

Players get fined and/or suspended for conduct outside of the game. Coaches get fined for things that are said in press conferences. Why would Belichick's actions on the field, after the game, be held to a different standard?

That's a "win" "win" in my book.

I'm really enjoying the winlessness in New Orleans.

I bet if Jennings was able to roll away with the ball there at the end there they would have given him the interception. But it just looks like a pile of arms grabbing and fighting for the ball still...I get why they made the call, whether or not it was right. I don't think it was close to the worst call of the weekend. I think that would be the marking off of the penalty on the wrong side of the 50 yard line in the Titans/Lions game.

This doesn't do anything to the question about Did Jennings have sole possession of the ball at the beginning of the catch. It certainly does give some perspective to the referee's ruling on the field.

The more I think about it the more I think that this was a reasonable call, and once it is ruled a touchdown based on simultaneous possession I think it is a tough one to completely over rule on replay. I still haven't seen a view that shows me that Tate didn't have a hand on the ball from the beginning. Which I believe would have to be the standard for over turning the call on the field.

I'm in the same boat. It is just good to see some of the haves with fewer wins than the perennial have nots.

So Clay Matthews can just walk into Russel Wilsons press conference and punch him in the face without repercussions? Sweet!
