Question: Can you compete and win in an MP league without gameplanning?

I could be mistaken, but I'm fairly sure both of this years' bowl participants (kurtism, Subby) used either out-of-the-box or slightly modified game plans that Ben published. I made the conference finals and while I do tweak things here and there, I absolutely do not game plan from week to week (I'm probably hampering my team somewhat, but I get by).

Marmel 11-09-2012 12:18 PM

Maybe I should re-phrase. Can I let the computer handle my game plan and still compete/win?

Kodos 11-09-2012 12:19 PM

You'd be better off grabbing one of the pre-made gameplans. Lots of players gameplan specifically to take advantage of things that the AI does in its gameplans.

Pyser 11-09-2012 12:24 PM

there really should be a league that outlaws gameplanning. that would be pretty fascinating, and much more "general manager only"-like.

Subby 11-09-2012 12:35 PM

I use an untweaked version of one of Ben's game plans and went 16-0 in the regular season. I just drafted to match the game plan.

Agreed with Kodos, but I can't state for certain that you wouldn't be able to win with AI gameplans given the right roster composition.

I will also note about FOFL - there is no cap crunch. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it is generally easier to keep around your drafted players than it is in CCFL, IHOF, etc. We still have rules where free agent offers in FA1 must be 3 years in length, and contracts may only be renegotiated in their final seasons.

Never joined an MP league, but this would be perfect!

sorry to threadjack, but threw this idea up in the FOF discussion forum: New MP League Idea (GM Only) - Front Office Football Central

anyway, back to FOL recruiting!

There are pre-made gameplans?

Where the hell are these things?

MalcPow 11-09-2012 01:36 PM

Honestly, I think most people (myself included) load up one of the decent gameplans posted in the strategy forum and never touch it again. Pretty sure the vast majority of people are playing a GM-only game already.

yeah, but that means they are using one to begin with. and there are no defensive game plans posted, or at least really good ones, which is fairly important. and some players exploit loopholes (running on 3rd and long, throwing long on expected running downs, etc) which the AI wouldnt do

i think theres a lot of room for exploiting newer players to MP that a no game plan league would change

stevew 11-09-2012 01:54 PM

I'm still holding out for the league that I get paid for participating in.
