Cordero Cops CL Batter of the Month Honors
Saturday, May 1st, 2123 Ramón Cordero battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Cordero told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 23 games, Cordero hit .326 with 9 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 17 runs. Guerra Takes Home RL Top Batter Award Saturday, May 1st, 2123 The Republic League has given Miguel Guerra the Batter of the Month Award. In April, the Las Vegas center fielder starred with a .348 batting average, 10 home runs and 30 RBIs. Guerra also had 6 walks, posted a .394 on-base percentage and scored 19 times. |
Allen Collects CL Pitching Award
Saturday, May 1st, 2123 Jay Allen has made fans throughout FOOL-X take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-0 record. No pitcher in the Continental League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 5 starts Allen compiled a 0.48 ERA, putting up a 3-0 record, striking out 36 and tossing 37.1 innings. Republic League Announces #1 Starter Saturday, May 1st, 2123 Jacob Cooper took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for April. The 24-year-old Axemen starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 38 batters in 35.2 innings and compiled a 2.52 ERA. |
Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2123 A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Roberto Berroa just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April. Over the past month the 23-year-old second baseman for Omaha hit .406 with 13 hits, 3 home runs and 6 runs batted in. He also logged 1 walks and compiled a .424 on-base percentage. Suárez Heads the Rookie Class Saturday, May 1st, 2123 Almost everyone agreed -- fans, teammates, peers -- and BNN sportwriters, too -- that José Suárez was worthy of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award. In the month of April the Spring center fielder was a bigtime threat. The 27-year-old Spring center fielder played in 11 games and hit .370 with 1 double, 1 triple and 2 home runs. Suárez also scored 6 times and drove in 10 runs. |

Manchester's Moore Chosen CL Batter of the Month
Tuesday, June 1st, 2123 Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 34-year-old Ryan Moore put together a solid offensive month for Manchester and was crowned May's top batter in the Continental League. He batted .388 with 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and 22 runs scored. This season Moore has hit 8 home runs and posted a .351 batting average. Las Vegas's Guerra Snaps up May Batting Award Tuesday, June 1st, 2123 Las Vegas center fielder Miguel Guerra certainly turned heads in May with some impressive numbers. He batted .388 for the month and was voted the Republic League Batter of the Month award. He banged 10 home runs, collected 32 RBIs, scored 23 times and put up a .427 on-base percentage. This season Guerra is batting .371 with 20 home runs. His totals include 62 RBIs and 42 runs scored. |
May's Best CL Hurler is Allen
Tuesday, June 1st, 2123 Jay Allen took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for May. The 24-year-old Freedom starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 29 batters in 35 innings and compiled a 1.29 ERA. Allen has made 10 starts, tossed 72.1 innings, struck out 65 batters and walked 17. His record is 7-0 with a 0.87 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .180 batting average. Hernández Grabs RL Top Pitcher Trophy Tuesday, June 1st, 2123 Francisco Hernández has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award. The Wildcats bullpen ace collected 8 saves and 20 strikeouts in 19.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .171 average and posting a 0.46 ERA and a 2-0 record. So far this year Hernández has 10 saves in 26 relief appearances with a 3-1 mark and 2.70 ERA. |
CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, June 1st, 2123 Youngster Brian McAllister emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from London deserved the honor, batting .311 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let McAllister enjoy the limelight. This season McAllister has 4 home runs and a .250 batting average. Waikiki Right Fielder Best Rookie Tuesday, June 1st, 2123 The outstanding Republic League rookie in May was Waikiki's right fielder Álex Sandoval. Last month he played in 25 games and hit .286 with 8 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 home runs. Sandoval also scored 13 times and drove in 12 runs. In 48 games this season Sandoval has batted at a .250 pace with 44 hits and 4 home runs. |

June's Best CL Hitter is José Carlos Soto
Thursday, July 1st, 2123 José Carlos Soto has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for June. In 27 games the Washington batter hit .356 with 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored. This season Soto has hit at a .304 clip and produced 65 runs batted in, 22 home runs and 53 runs. Malloch Gets RL Batter of the Month Trophy Thursday, July 1st, 2123 John Malloch is in the final year of his contract with Ann Arbor and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 26 games in June the 31-year-old center fielder ripped Republic League pitchers for a .350 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award. He also rang up 9 home runs, 30 RBIs and 21 runs scored. If Malloch keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money. To date Malloch has chalked up a .306 average with 18 home runs, driven in 58 runs and scored 51 times. |
CL Pitcher of the Month Goes to López
Thursday, July 1st, 2123 David López of Washington had an award-winning June as he took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award. "He told me once people used to make fun of the way he pitches," López's pitching coach told reporters. "There wasn't anybody laughing in June except for David." López was all business when he took the mound though, collecting a 5-0 record in 5 starts. He struck out 20 batters in 33.2 innings and kept opponents to a .244 batting average. This year López has fanned 72 in 95.1 innings and collected a 7-5 record with a 2.93 ERA. RL Starter of the Month Goes to Sánchez Thursday, July 1st, 2123 Tomás Sánchez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in June, the 38-year-old Spring hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 26 in 41 innings, logged an ERA of 1.98 and allowed opponents to hit .268 against him. Sánchez has posted a 9-1 record for the year with a 2.63 ERA. Teams are hitting .257 against him and he has rung up 69 strikeouts in 113 innings. |
Alberta Second Baseman June's #1 Rookie
Thursday, July 1st, 2123 Cristo Aranda's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Alberta second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .287 with 6 doubles, 1 triple and no home runs. Aranda also scored 6 times and drove in 5 runs. For the season Aranda has hit .281 with 2 home runs and 22 RBIs. He has played in 79 games and scored 22 times. Rookie Swinger Scores Big in June Thursday, July 1st, 2123 Botol Laborinho earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Portland first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Laborinho hit .388 with 3 home runs, 23 RBIs and 10 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. Laborinho is hitting .297 this year with 8 home runs and 47 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .373, 26 walks and scored 27 times. |

Washington's Soto CL #1 Batter in July
Sunday, August 1st, 2123 For the month of July, José Carlos Soto of the Washington Freedom has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Continental League pitchers to the tune of a .450 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today. Sunday, August 1st, 2123 Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Arnold Burns still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in July. The 32-year-old starter for Washington was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 6 wins and no losses with 30 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.89 ERA in 43.2 innings of work. Burns has made 21 starts this season, posting 12 wins and 5 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .240 against him and he has 98 strikeouts in 141.1 innings with a 3.57 ERA. Sunday, August 1st, 2123 Cristo Aranda is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In July the Alberta hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .250 average with 22 hits, 1 home run and 5 RBIs. Presently Aranda is batting .273 and has collected 3 home runs, 27 RBIs, .301 OBP and scored 34 runs. Rookie Honored by Republic League Sunday, August 1st, 2123 The batter wants to "hit 'em where they ain't." And that is just what Álex Sandoval did all month long to net the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award. In July he slapped 22 hits in 84 at-bats for a .262 batting average. Sandoval also racked up 1 home run, 7 RBIs, and 10 runs scored. In 95 games this season Sandoval has compiled a .257 batting average with 90 hits and 8 home runs. Washington's Yánez Bags CL Top Batter for August
Wednesday, September 1st, 2123 The #1 hitter in the Continental League in August was Washington first baseman Jesús Yánez. He was selected the Batter of the Month. Yánez starred with a .363 batting average, 9 home runs and 26 RBIs. This year Yánez is hitting .323, produced 88 RBIs and 30 home runs, scored 96 times and gotten on base at a .424 rate. Carmona Wins CL Top Pitcher Award
Wednesday, September 1st, 2123 The Continental League scribes have announced August's Pitcher of the Month and have given the award to Gabriel Carmona of London. He was one tough cookie on the mound last month with a fine 4-1 mark to prove it. The London star made 5 starts with a 1.97 ERA and surrendered 24 hits in 32 innings. He struck out 18 and walked 7. Carmona has started 26 times this year, pitched 173.2 innings, fanned 112 batters and walked 27. His current record is 17 wins and 5 losses with a 2.33 ERA. RL Picks August's Top Pitcher Wednesday, September 1st, 2123 The Republic League announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award for August. It went to Ian Wilson of Chicago for his outstanding 5-0 record and 1.76 ERA. Wilson also chalked up 6 starts, 46 innings and 28 strikeouts. In 27 starts this season Wilson has notched a 17-5 record and a 2.78 ERA. |
Sánchez Chosen CL's Best Newcomer
Wednesday, September 1st, 2123 Anastasio Sánchez was named the top rookie in the Continental League for his outstanding performance last month. In August, the Omaha shortstop posted a .241 average while racking up 19 hits, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. Thus far this year Sánchez has hit .207 with 5 home runs and 24 RBIs. August's #1 RL Rookie Named Wednesday, September 1st, 2123 For the last thirty days he outperformed all the other newcomers in the Republic League. So it was no surprise that Portland's center fielder Todd Albert took the Rookie of the Month honors today. In August he hit .333 as he ran up some impressive offensive numbers. In 13 games he collected 14 hits, 1 home run, 5 RBIs and 7 runs scored. Presently Albert is batting .258 with 49 hits and 1 home run. He has knocked in 23 runs and scored 16 times. |

Yánez Awarded September's CL Top Bat Prize
Friday, October 1st, 2123 Beach balls were coming in at Jesús Yánez in September and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .311 batting average and hauling in the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy. That's why Miguel Guerra of the Las Vegas Wildcats was named the Republic League's best batter in September. The Las Vegas center fielder starred with a .343 batting average, 6 home runs and 23 RBIs. Continental League Picks Best Starter in September
Friday, October 1st, 2123 Gabriel Carmona really tore up the Continental League this past month. He went 4-1 in September and won the Pitcher of the Month award. In 6 starts he struck out 25 in 43.1 innings with a 1.66 ERA. In 32 starts this year Carmona has posted 21 wins while suffering 6 losses. He has pitched 217 innings, allowed 189 hits, struck out 137 and has a 2.20 ERA. RL's Best Starter is Sosa Friday, October 1st, 2123 The Republic League Pitcher of the Month honor has been given to Pablo Sosa of Ann Arbor for a superlative month. "I actually never wanted to be a pitcher," Sosa told reporters when asked who he credits for his pitching ability. "I was an outfielder until high school and on the third day of tryouts my coach came up and said, 'Son you couldn't hit a lick even if we put it on a tee for ya.' Well, that ticked me off, so I decided if I couldn't hit I wanted to make sure no one else could either and so here I am." It all turned out for the best as the Ann Arbor starter notched a 6-0 record with a 2.66 ERA last month. He made 6 starts and struck out 40 in 40.2 innings. Sosa has fashioned a 15-10 mark for the season, 4.73 ERA and thrown 198 innings in 30 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .266 against him. |
September's Best Rookie In a Class by Himself
Friday, October 1st, 2123 In September, Tomás Soto had an exceptional month at the plate and hit his way to the Continental League Rookie of the Month award. Last month the 23-year-old Oshawa shortstop played in 18 games and hit .419 with 3 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Soto also scored 7 times and drove in 15 runs. To date this season Soto is hitting .324 with 5 home runs. Wow, it has been, like... forever... since I had the out and out #1 overall pick in the draft and going away. Hopefully the next big Hall of Fame pitcher is waiting there for me. Congrats to the playoff teams, and good luck tomorrow! |
How improbable was this? I had a 21 man roster and 9 man pitching staff all season due to FA offers that didn't pan out. And we still won 90 games because we just mashed everything in sight on offense. I bet if you simmed this year 10 times, I finish below .500 in 8 of them.
