Hey FOFC, I wrote a book and now I'm going to try to guilt you into buying it

Hi FOFC,

Christmas is only a few weeks away and many people have already finished their shopping but who's kidding who, you haven't even started yet. Wouldn't it be nice if you could get some of it done right now?

Well, here's some good news. Because I'm your pal and am always thinking of ways to help you out, I spent a few months earlier this year writing a book so it could come out in time for the holidays and you could give it to your friends. "The Best Of Down Goes Brown" is a book about hockey, which was a sports that used to be a thing a long time ago before some very stupid people decided to ruin it. Reviewers have described the book as "funny, but not especially cocky" so you take the good with the bad.

This book the perfect gift for any hockey fan on your list. It's an adequate gift for any sports fan on your list. It's not a very good gift for any non-sports fans, to be honest with you, but when you give it to them and they look at you like "Dude, WTF, you know I don't like sports" you can just say "No, it's OK, I kind of sort of know the guy who wrote it" and then quickly change the subject. So really, everybody wins.

Here's the Amazon link. The book costs $12 for a paperback, $10 for the Kindle version. For s special bonus, enter a swear word at checkout and an FOFC moderator will instantly appear and scold you for not thinking of the children.
The Best of Down Goes Brown: Greatest Hits and Brand New Classics-to-Be from Hockey's Most Hilarious Blog: Sean McIndoe, Bob McKenzie, James Duthie: 9781118358306: Amazon.com: Books

Thanks everyone, and happy holidays.

Done.

Congrats on getting published -- that is a great accomplishment!

(also congrats on getting a hockey book published this season)

Logan 12-03-2012 03:08 PM

For anyone who hasn't been following, this book has been praised by the entire friggin world. I haven't gotten to my copy yet but looking forward to it.

DanGarion 12-03-2012 03:17 PM

Awesome! Very happy for you Sean, I've suggested it to my Hockey fan friends.

BYU 14 12-03-2012 03:26 PM

Congrats, I will pick up the Kindle version for the kindle I am getting for Christmas :)

JonInMiddleGA 12-03-2012 05:01 PM

Shared to my FB wall ... I'll send you a bill ;)

DaddyTorgo 12-03-2012 05:03 PM

Seriously? I'll get one for my brother in law. He played college hockey and is a total hockey lover. In fact, his dad is a college scout for the Coyotes (I believe it's the Coyotes).

bbor 12-03-2012 05:16 PM

Who is this guy?

Doesn't he live in Ottawa?

WTF would he know about hockey????

You are really Dominic Lavioe,Aren't you?

molson 12-03-2012 05:20 PM

Will there be an audiobook version? I want to hear you read that flowchart.

samifan24 12-03-2012 05:23 PM

This is fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing it. I know the blog's been wildly successful but releasing a book is something altogether different. I'm buying two, one for me and one for my hockey nut best friend. Thanks!

CleBrownsfan 12-03-2012 05:43 PM

Congrats Maple Leafs!!! What an accomplishment - I bought one for the person I have in the FOFC Secret Santa (not sure if he's a hockey fan or not but who cares - it's a book written by a FOFC'er ;))

stevew 12-03-2012 07:01 PM

I wish I liked hockey.

I'll find someone to get it for.

This -- exactly. I just purchased it because you are an awesome guy.

Maple Leafs 12-03-2012 08:04 PM

Hey, thanks everyone.

And look for the hidden RWBL references scattered in various chapters.

Are you just trying to trick Schmidty into buying it?

If there's a section about "Interesting tidbits", I'd be tempted to buy even though I have zero interest in hockey.

kcchief19 12-03-2012 09:26 PM

I have three questions:

1) Is this book compiled entirely from material posted on your blog which is, if I recall, available for free online?

2) Is the Bob McKenzie THE Bob McKenzie? And by that, I mean Doug McKenzie's brother. You know, those two guys who say "eh" and "hoser" all the time?

3) Have you mentioned this book on your Twitter account by chance?

If the answer to all questions is yes, by all means count me in.

I've been trying to remember David Krynzel's name for about a week and a half.

Honolulu_Blue 12-03-2012 09:41 PM

Like sportsdigs, I had this shit weeks ago.

molson 12-03-2012 09:57 PM

Phenomenal reviews (both at Amazon and goodreads.com), I think could do really well over the Xmas season, it seems like a great gift for hockey fans. I'm a very causal hockey fan but I'll pick it up because I like this style of sports book, just a bunch of short segments/chapters that I don't have to get too deep into and can pick up and read from wherever.

britrock88 12-03-2012 10:03 PM

Love the flowchart on the front, especially 1) the goon punching a linesman during a fight, 2) the part under "Superstars" that has no antecedent, and 3) "Dammit, Pronger."

All of canada wonders who Oil Can Trapani is.

True story: I once did a radio interview where I repeatedly referred to Norris Trophy winning defenceman Erik Karlsson as "Will Karlsson".

He was a stud pitcher in the RWBL, right? It has been way too long. :)

Bah, that's nothing. Jim Rome would have called him Gretchen.

Chief Rum 12-05-2012 11:03 AM

Hey Sean! I just bought two, one for me and one for my brother. Looking forward to reading it and looking for RWBL references, lol :)

Thanks Chief, much appreciated.

Alan T 12-06-2012 09:24 AM

I bought one for my brother in-law (huge Canadian's fan that lives in Quebec). Since I know nothing about hockey, I hope he enjoys it. :)

Swaggs 12-06-2012 05:05 PM

I got mine yesterday.

So far, I'm disappointed that you put all the equipment on the cover, but no cup.

INDalltheway 12-06-2012 09:29 PM

Mine came today! I had to explain to my girlfriend that I knew the author and it was from "an online baseball league." Her face was hilarious.

DanGarion 12-06-2012 09:58 PM

I would have liked to have seen the book dedicated to the late RWBL.

I'm a Leafs fan, I've never seen one.

DaddyTorgo 01-10-2013 03:39 PM

Fucking Amazon.com/your publisher - you're so popular they can't keep you in stock man!

I ordered one for my brother in law for Xmas, and they're saying delivery is now expected to be in Feb-March.

Only cuz you didn't tell her that the online baseball league (which is at least maybe somewhat normal if she thinks you meant fantasy baseball) uses a computer game and is run off the web forum of an NFL text simulation game. :p
