McDonald's Mighty Wings

I apologize in advance if there is a thread on this that I have missed.

I went out on a limb tonight, bought a McRib as a back-up just in case, and ordered a 10 piece Mighty Wing from the local McD's. Additionally, they offered BBQ sauce or ranch packets so I loaded up on BBQ figuring I could drown them if they suck but...

The barbecue sauce stayed sealed, the McRib was handed to my four year old, and I polished off all 10 wings. I must say, for a fast food burger joint, McD's did a decent job with the wings. I'm not usually a fan of dry wings (I like 'em saucy) but these were pretty good. The batter had a bit more kick than I expected and, while not nearly hot enough for what I usually eat wings at, these were still a solid level. There was a nice crispness to the exterior and the interior was still juicy and good. Additionally, the wings were not small but actually meaty and filling. I must say, if I ordered them at a sit down joint I would give 'em a C+, maybe a B-. Considering I snagged 'em from a drive thru at McDonald's I go with a very solid B+. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the test market.

The McRib is basically a laxative coated in BBQ sauce.

Curious to know what price point they got for 10 wings?

The earlier test in Atlanta had them at 3/$3.99 and 5/$4.99 ... not sure a buck a wing is a model that's going to work very well

Hey JIMGA,

I believe I paid $8.49 for 10 but I'll have to double-check with one of my students that works there.

PurdueBrad 01-14-2013 06:37 PM

And you're right, that's still a high price point when the place in town that probably has best the wings I've ever had only charges 55 cents per wing.

Only tested in Atlanta and Chicago thus far, but the article I read said the tests have been very successful. As other have said, if those price points are true, that's too much.

I can call ahead at Wing Stop and get 8 wings, some great fries and a coke for that price. Bad deal.

The KFC wings are pretty good.

And yeah, made the mistake having a McRib a few weeks ago on the road. Had to hunt down a restroom shortly thereafter cause it was Go time. Never again.

McRib to a 4 year old should be child abuse. ;)

Was surprised how good these were when I tried them, nice kick and very juicy.

They did have a good kick to them but the wings were not bad...exceeded my expectations - albeit they were not all that high...

8.50 for 10 mcdonald's wings seems like highway robbery.

Rallys has good wings as well.

Yea, this I don't really get. I do know that McDonald's tends to get these "premium" items on their menu, but this one just doesn't seem to fit. Like mentioned before, if I have a hankering for wings the ONLY reason I would go to McDonalds is for 1.) Price and 2.) Convenience (speed + drive thru). Yet, if I can get wings that are quite a bit better at a local joint for ALMOST half the price with the only downside being that I have to walk my ass inside the store and to the front desk to pick them up then why the fuck would I go to McDonalds? The only thing I can think of is if I am on my way home from school or work and want something quick, but then I am going to select something that doesn't cost almost $10 from McDonalds.

Only two reasons really...

1) Kids and/or
2) People are that lazy

An Applebees is next to my McDs so I can wait for the 50% appetizers but really, if I really want wings, I can just go to B-Dubs or some other place even if it's more than a virtual walk from my house.
