This is Commander Zed.

The collective governments and militaries of the world have failed. Pacifists within the United Nations and economic panic gripping the globe have rendered the traditional superpowers impotent to combat the impending threat. It would appear the aliens have won without firing a shot.

Desperate times. Desperate measures.

To my horror, we have turned to the last, independent source of funding and ready troops available to combat this invasion. Heaven help us: Our fate now lies in the hands of Hollywood.

Admittedly, these glam stars and actors have had training. Many have spent their individual fortunes and abundant leisure time learning combat skills, with no idea they might be called into actual battle. But they're still movie stars. Criminy. Movie stars.

Secretly, a consortium of 16 nations is funneling funding to us through underground channels. But they've sent no troops. My goodness, man. We're sending CELEBRITIES into the field to fight aliens.

Perhaps the world will shed a tear when they're slaughtered like lambs. Perhaps People magazine will become the voice of the resistance. Perhaps this is all a pipe dream and we're all doomed.

But this chronicle, should it survive, will detail how at least one brave band of actors, actresses, musicians and sports stars stood up to the aliens when the governments of the world failed.

I'm setting it up so that the nationalities/sex it gives me have to match the heritage, if not birthplace, of the celebrities involved. Some, it's very practical, others it's a stretch.

For example, my first recruit was German. As it turns out, Bruce Willis was born in Germany. Jackpot.

Ewan MacGregor is on my list as the #2 possibility, should I get another Scottish recruit later. But no, I have someone more ... experienced ... with aliens in mind.

(What? More experienced than Obi Wan? Yes, friend. Yes. Matching his hairstyle, however, may be beyond XCOM's abilities.)
