QB's 58/65 deep pass bar wiped out to 0 mid-season, no injury
 

Has anyone heard of anything like this happening in the middle of a season? We have a player here in the OSFL who's at 5/10 experience, is a rookie, isn't dropping potential due to full development, and according to both the game log and his transaction history list, wasn't injured in this game.

It's like Volatility stood up and took a whack at him. But I have never heard of this happening in the middle of a season before, nor seen anything like this.

This, is, definitely, odd.

Just wondering in these online leagues are there ways other people can go into other players rosters and mess up the ratings. I never play in online leagues anymore but I do know way back when when online gaming was first starting out there were tons of ways people could cheat.

In FOF MP? Never heard of that (people messing with others' exports).

I've seen stuff like that happen a few times over my FOF days.

I once saw a QB go from a 74 Sense Rush to a 0.

Disturbed, a 74 SR to 0 in the middle of a season, from one game to the next? Wow. How many times do you think you saw this? If you have, then I guess it means we have to accept that vol-stick-like-things can occur, extremely rarely, outside of TC.

Well in real life there is always a player like Jim Everett who was considered to be one of the best qb's in the league through the '89 season. But after the '89 NFC championship game he wasn't anything anymore.

My first and only guess would be tampering b/c I've never seen this. That isn't an accusation, I just personally haven't seen anything to lead me to believe that outside of tampering or data corruption that this would be possible.

In all honesty if someone was going to tamper with some ratings the deep passing ratings would be the one you would want to tamper with.

I wonder how possible that is, tampering. Regular owners can only upload their exports, which don't exactly affect player ratings. And I don't think it's conceivable that the commish would do this to his own prized 1.1 QB (it's his team)...

I think where I'm at is,
-either this does happen as Disturbed says, which is very, very interesting, because I believe we all assume vol only happens during TC
-possible data corruption, in which case maybe we should be a little worried

Are we sure that VSOD can only happen during TC?

Well, that's been my assumption. Has there been another time where people suspect vol might happen? I asked a few long-time players about this case and they had all never seen it happen before. Except for Disturbed, so I'm interested in hearing more about that.

If this wasn't data corruption, I suppose it means that vol has to be happening during the season, although the sheer infrequency of it seems odd to me. Why would Jim program debilitating, once-in-twenty-years, damn-you're-unlucky events? Even TC VSODs happen with regularity and it's a case of you win some, you lose some.

I think the commish is just handicapping himself so he doesn't destroy us all with his passing attack.

I have had a RB crash in the middle of preseason without injury before. He went from 68/68 to 32/32 I think it was. It really sucked because the year before , his rookie year, he broke the league record for yards from scrimmage.

I was trying to remember where the QB Sense Rush drop happened. I've been in too many leagues in my days. For all I know it happened in FOF 2004. I just remember it because it was my QB that it happened to. He went from getting sacked 10-15 times a year to 40-50 times. Really sucked and has permanently turned me off to low SR QBs.

Even though I've seen it I can only recall the two situations I mentioned above. Both of them happened to me so it makes it quite easy for me to remember.

I've seen odd stuff in my days. In the GEFL I think it was, saw a RB sprain his ankle, came back after 4 weeks, and busted completely. I suppose it was a pretty nasty ankle sprain.

I honestly would be more inclined to think it was data corruption than anything else. Has the commish tried backing the file up and simming that stage again to see if it repeats?

Note that when WOOF folded, we were starting to see some very weird issues with the data file, including some very peculiar financial results that we could not explain.

I thought about that. That should be safe for him to do, right? Just load up the current stage again and overwrite the files.

If this has happened before to players in other leagues (albeit rarely) it seems OK if they keep going on without issue. Were the WOOF issues determined to have been caused by the cap space modifications being done?

As I've noted to Greg , I can find where exactly in the .fpd file the values changed to cause the bar to be zeroed. It's all encrypted but it seems possible to change it back to what it was before and get the bar back. Given that we've simmed into the next offseason I'm not sure that's safe to do...although I also am only hoping that continuing as is is also safe.
