Really enjoyed the battle last year. While I don't have time this year, it's definitely worth a shameless bump

In.

FYI, it's 2 strikes and you're out, and there's a Sunday deadline, so you won't be screwed by forgetting to make a pick before the Thursday game.

korme 09-04-2013 10:38 AM

Yes. That is all correct

ntndeacon 09-04-2013 12:23 PM

in!

In thanks for running it korme.

Should be an easy first week for us I think-at least three games that should be pretty safe to go with-Indy/Oak, NE/Buf, Jets/TB. I'm going with Indy, so no doubt Oak will pull off the upset now :)

Marmel 09-05-2013 02:24 PM

I got the Jets!

I wouldn't touch the buff/NE game or the jets buccs game with a 100 yard pole.

the KC jags game is pretty safe, Indy obviously. I'm surprised more people aren't taking Seattle this week. that's almost a guaranteed win.

Seattle on the road vs Cam Newton is not a game I'd feel safe about in week 1. I need a week before I'd feel safe picking KC given its a new coach/QB, but yeah they should win. Jets and Buffalo are at home so that is one factor for not picking them, but two rookie QB's starting, one that looked horrible in the one game he started, both coming off injuries-doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence in them winning this week, at least in my opinion.

First week may actually be one of the most difficult weeks of the contest-cause no one's sure how any team is going to actually perform, just a lot of "shoulds"

sterlingice 09-05-2013 03:29 PM

It's really hard for me to pick a road team, especially early on when we don't have a read for teams. Not only that but why waste a good team early when you might need them later (tho weeks 1-2 seem to have a hangover from last year where a team seems to play more like the previous year than the current).

Thomkal 09-08-2013 02:12 PM

Ummmm Oakland, would you please start acting like Oakland and lose horribly to the Colts, thank you very much. Thank god that McFadden TD got called back

I'm so obviously not a Survival expert here-Buffalo almost won, Jets got a gift of a win, Indy nearly lost to Oak. Just glad I didn't pick Tampa now :)

Draft Dodger 09-09-2013 06:39 PM

and now I have an excuse to hate Pittsburgh even more than I already do

Thomkal 09-12-2013 10:01 AM

So what's your pick this week? I went with Baltimore over Cleveland-have to believe they bounce back after the big loss to Denver and had more time to prepare for this game. Other good possibilities? New England? Houston? Philly? Detroit? Might be a good time to take Oakland since it likely won't get any easier than Jacksonville for them.

Lathum 09-12-2013 10:11 AM

is this a one and done?

Nope a two and done

Draft Dodger 09-12-2013 11:18 AM

I took the Packers at home over Washington, which doesn't seem like a very popular pick. I thought long and hard about Buffalo, but didn't have the balls to do it.

ntndeacon 09-12-2013 11:26 AM

I took New Orleans, because if they cant beat the Jets how will the bucs beat the Saints.

CleBrownsfan 09-12-2013 12:10 PM

I took Balt over Cle as well... show's you what I think of the Clowns this year!

markprior22 09-12-2013 12:55 PM

Baltimore here too...looking for bounce back from them.

Neuqua 09-12-2013 01:33 PM

I'm taking Cincy, mainly because I don't think highly of Pittsburgh this year.

A risk obviously.

Marmel 09-12-2013 01:58 PM

I took Oakland because, well I already have 1 strike so the chances of me winning are small and there probably won't be another sane week to take them.

Lathum 09-12-2013 02:31 PM

took Atlanta, don't see them losing at home and dropping to 0-2

Thomkal 09-18-2013 10:32 AM

well my new strategy is to pick whomever is playing Jacksonville this week. This week is at Seattle, so a very easy choice there. Poor Jax-they suck and had to play two consecutive games on the west coast.

Other good choices perhaps, New England at home vs Tampa, and Denver at home against Oakland.

ntndeacon 09-18-2013 10:43 AM

I figure San Fran is gonna come out very unhappy and rip Indy a new one..... SO I may be going that way

CleBrownsfan 09-18-2013 10:50 AM

Went Denver this week...

Julio Riddols 09-18-2013 11:52 AM

How long has it been since a team was a 19.5 point underdog in an NFL game?

Edit: Looks like 07, the Pats were favored by 20+ twice, but failed to cover the spread both times. They did win though.

Same here...that's my pick as of now. I'll feel better if Vernon Davis appears somewhat healthy.

Switched to Minnesota...taking a bit of a gamble but I'm hoping Cleveland absolutely sucks with a different starting QB and the loss of Richardson.

RendeR 09-22-2013 11:03 PM

So much for those niners coming out "angry" they kind came out...limp.

I fucked up and forgot to pick so I should end up with a strike this week. ahh well.

korme 09-23-2013 12:08 AM

I didn't gamble on Minny this week because I figured the Browns would have one of those weird "we traded our best player, we have no business in this game" surprise victories, turns out I was right.

Too bad I forgot I picked Minny in this survivor thing on like Wednesday however

ntndeacon 09-23-2013 12:21 AM

well I am out. that was my second strike.

Marmel 09-23-2013 01:30 PM

I'm still hanging in with my brilliant SEA pick!

Thomkal 09-24-2013 04:12 PM

Not a great week for clear cut picks unless you can use Indy (which I can't) who gets Jacksonville. Denver might be a good pick against Philly, and the Giants can't possibly beat the Chiefs at their loud stadium after being skunked by an 0-2 Carolina can they? I'm probably going there. I am tempted to take my beloved Cards here against Tampa Bay, but only if they were at home.

I think New England is going to struggle too against their first good team of the year-Atlanta at Atlanta.

britrock88 09-24-2013 04:34 PM

Yep. After the strike against Minnesota last week, and having used Minneapolis already, Denver was the best choice standing. Too bad, given that they'll probably be favored in all but 1 or 2 games the rest of the way.

Thomkal 10-04-2013 11:06 AM

A tougher pick this week perhaps-all the 4-0 teams are on the road, and none of which could be said an easy opponent. I went for the Monday night game with Atlanta at home against the Jets-really can't see them losing at home with the Jets being 0-2 on the road this season.

Another good choices perhaps: St. Louis at home against Jacksonville. The rest for me are too dangerous to go with right now.

Draft Dodger 10-04-2013 12:15 PM

even though Jacksonville stinks, I don't have enough confidence in the Rams to pick them. I too went with Atlanta.

Julio Riddols 10-04-2013 07:02 PM

I feel like Jacksonville is so far behind the rest of the league that picking any team against them feels safe.

Draft Dodger 10-08-2013 05:52 AM

and Atlanta knocked out 5 of us.

Thomkal 10-08-2013 09:28 AM

Down to one strike thanks to Atlanta. Thankfully this week I have the easiest game to call in recent history-if somehow Jacksonville beats Denver, its a sign of the Apocalypse. :)

Other good choices perhaps: Chicago at home against the Giants, Cincy on the road against the Bills who had a QB just picked up from their practice squad. Dare I say Cleveland at home against Detroit if Megatron can't play again? Seattle at home against Tennessee? SF at home against my beloved Cards?

Thomkal 10-16-2013 10:42 AM

Only three contestants have both strikes left. 7 of us, including myself are down to one. So where to go this week?

Seattle plays Arizona on Thursday so better get your pick in quick if you are going there. Seattle definitely not the same team on the road though, and Arizona seems to play a lot better at home (see Carolina game). Arizona was pretty beat up after the Niners game, and lost Calais Campbell it looked like for a long time. But he wants to play this week-doubt that happens given the short turn around.

If you're a part of the "always go with Jacksonville's opponent" strategy, you get San Diego this week, coming across the country, but after a nice and surprising win against Indy. Not the safest pick perhaps. Atlanta is at home against Tampa-surely they can beat them? But that's what I said when they played the Jets and look where that got me.

Jets at home against New England-Patriots won the first game this season, but it was very ugly, worth taking a shot here? Chicago on the road against Washington? Niners on the road against the Titans? Undefeated KC against a reeling Houston team? Do you dare take the Giants at home against a Viking team with a new QB?

I'm personally going with Green Bay at home against Cleveland. Cleveland has improved, but really can't see them beat Aaron Rogers in his place.

CleBrownsfan 10-16-2013 01:44 PM

Green Bay for me... ;)

Thomkal 10-16-2013 02:06 PM

That had to be hard for a Cleveland fan to do :)

Thomkal 10-24-2013 09:30 AM

Well down to 2 players with no strikes yet, and eight with one strike.

The easy pick this week if you still have them is obviously San Francisco. Even though they are traveling to England with jet lag and distractions, Jacksonville has no chance against them. Thankfully I still have them to pick from. :)

Other potential good picks are: Carolina against the other winless team Tampa Bay, though its a road game and a conference rival so not as sure a bet as the Jacksonville game at least. KC at home against Cleveland and Jason Campbell making the start.

New Orleans against Buffalo at home would be a pretty safe pick I think. Philly at home against the Giants? Pittsburgh has won two in a row, can they make it three on the road in Oakland? Denver back at this home this week after picking up its first loss, do they get back on track against the Redskins? Atlanta on the road in Arizona? Another very safe pick given the QB turmoil in Minnesota has to be Green Bay right? Seattle also facing QB changes with Bradford hurt in St. Louis also has to be a pretty good choice I would think.

So looking at the games this week, I'm expecting a lot of blowouts.

Thomkal 10-30-2013 03:09 PM

down to 2/7. Pretty ugly slate of games this week, but some easy picks if you have the right teams left to you.

Unfortunately I do not have the easiest of them all this week-Seattle. They get Tampa Bay at home...despite the pitiful offensive performance against St. Louis last week, all I can say is Ouch there when giving TB's chances of winning. I do however have Dallas left-they get Minnesota at home. Always a risk taking a Romo led team if its close in the 4th quarter, hopefully they already have a blowout going by that point. So that's my pick...for now.

Other potential good choices: KC on the road in Buffalo, New Orleans on the road at the Jets, maybe Carolina at home against the falling completely apart Falcons? Baltimore on the road in Cleveland perhaps? New England eeking out another win at home, against Pittsburgh? The Colts on the road against the Case Keenum led Texans? No Jay Cutler for the Bears, easy picking for the Packers at Lambeau Field?

Good luck to everyone still clutching to life in this contest.
