I've been pleasantly surprised that some sites are actually engaging in a conversation about the representation of women in GTA V (see Polygon). There's also a conversation about how the player must participate in torture and whether this is actually appropriate, even by GTA standards (see Eurogamer). Maybe the game review press is actually moving out of dudebro mode and growing up a bit. No matter where a person comes out on these issues, just having these types of conversations seems like a step in the right direction if we want to take the medium more seriously as an artform.

I posted in the 2013 Video games thread.. this is going to be the climax game of this generation of consoles. It's at a 98 at metacritic last time I looked.

I ordered it from Walmart.com since I wanted the special edition and by the time I got around to ordering it, Best Buy and Gamestop didn't have it available anymore. Never done Walmart before so I'm a little nervous it won't get here.

I'll be walking into a Wal-Mart at midnight, for the very first time, to hopefully pick this up! Crossing my fingers that my 8 year old 360 can run it. Is there any difference between my old 360 (other than storage - it has only 450mb space) and say a brand new one off the shelf today?

Well it's an 8GB install, so you are gonna have a hard time with that. :(

Luckily I can just put in a big enough thumb drive and install right to that, woo!

Any updates on when this is coming out on PC? Ive looked around and cant find any definitive info.

Picking up tomorrow at lunch. I don't have the patience to wait for the PC version and Rockstar's PC releases seem to take a month or two to run well anyway.

They haven't announced anything yet, though I'm going to be waiting for the PC version before picking this one up so I hope it's relatively soon.

Any news on whether the PS3 version is inferior to the 360 version (like usual for most games)? My 360 seems like it is starting to crap out, so would like to get the PS3 version if it is comparable.

So my Best Buy is opening at midnight tonight. I don't have a pre-order, and I've never done a midnight launch there, only at Gamestop. I probably wouldn't go to a Gamestop at midnight without a preorder, but am wondering if I should even bother at Best Buy? Anyone have any experience with this?

I am staying sober for my Bengals MNF game because my ass will be walking into Gamestop as soon as the game ends. Can't fucking wait.

To me the idea of a game being on 1 disc instead of 2 seems like it would help performance, but what do I know.

Should I bother buying through PSN or just run out and grab it tomorrow? It's Sony, so I'm sure the download will be a clusterfuck. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind playing a little late tonight.

I've downloaded online from the PSN before (Last of Us) and it went very smoothly. Only downside, you can't trade it in, which I'd have done with that game, but I doubt I'll ever do with this one

Awesome prologue

I've got 1200 minute remaining in the download. Can't blame Sony though, not like they could anticipate how popular this title would be.

Installing now, to the thumb drive. Looks like its going to take 2 hours to install, I hope this isnt a bad sign.

Don't install GTA V second disc on Xbox 360 - it will fail - Pocket-lint

PS3 disc version not plagued with above issues.

The largest DDoS attack to date is somewhere in the range of 200 Gbps, right? If 1 million people opted for the PSN download to play today, that's a sustained combined load that would near 1100 Gbps.

Anything to this? I just always assumed it was the same game...

Usually the PS3 versions are buggier because they are ported from the 360 version... at least if you are EA Sports. I know the PS3 version of Skyrim was considered inferior to the 360 version.

Hit Walmart and got it this morning, played through the prologue and the first mission.

Driving is definitely harder than previous versions.

I take it this will be released for next gen? If so, I'm going to have to try real hard to wait until then...

Might need to check it out further, but last I read, the game was developed on the ps3, and is only ported over to xbox360.

Finally met Trevor. Having fun playing with all three, and it's funny because I kind of play them as their personalities would suggest they'd play.

I did my first heist mission, which was a blast. You pick from a couple of options on how you'd like to handle it, and then you also pick from a number of candidates to be along in your crew. Very fun experience.

I sort of want to stop on the way home and see if any of the local stores have copies left, but I also have Civil War II to play tonight that I just purchased today. Might be too much gaming $ in one day.

According to Eurogamer there's not much of a difference between the two.

Watching people play through this on youtube, it looks pretty amazing. Visually its crazy good. Just exploring the map will probably be one of the most fun things about it.

Talk about idiots lining up. There's like 40 copies of both the xbox and ps3 version sitting at my highly trafficked target.
