Mac users: Crossover on sale for $30

You can run FOF7 on your Mac with this.

https://deals.tuaw.com/sales/easily-...h-crossover-13

On sale for the next 6 days, 30-day refund policy.

There may be issues with MP leagues and using Crossover due to wonky file locations. I'm not sure, but Digamma and Ben are looking into it, I believe.

LastWhiteSoxFanStanding 12-19-2013 02:25 PM

Thanks for the tip! Using this is surprisingly much better and quicker than using parallels for the Mac. My only issue is the scoreboard doesn't show up when I sim my game. Do you have that issue?

sjshaw 12-19-2013 02:50 PM

I use Parallels, but I've heard about that issue. Not sure how to resolve it.

digamma 12-19-2013 03:13 PM

There may be one issue with using crossover related to Multiplayer. If anyone is using it and is willing to test a couple of things, could you shoot me a PM?

Klew1987 12-22-2013 12:58 PM

I can't get FOF to install using Crossover!!

sjshaw 01-09-2014 07:43 PM

Now you can get Parallels 9 for $25:

Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac $24 + Free shipping - Newegg Deals, Coupons and Promos

Pyser 01-09-2014 07:58 PM

wine is still free

mattlanta 01-14-2014 05:07 AM

So what's the most reliable way to get this game to work on a Mac?

I use Parallels and find it seamless, but others have found WINE to run FOF well, and it's free.

I'd at least try wine and wine bottler first, as it's free. One hiccup i had was when you're bottling the EXE, you need to make sure to select the game exe, not the player creator exe. I got the demo to work, haven't licensed the full game yet as I've been busy.

mattlanta 01-24-2014 02:04 AM

I will try WINE first. Are there any other tips besides what stevew posted in regards to using it?

I don't mind paying a little extra for Parallels as long as there are no features lost during the cross over.

sjshaw 01-24-2014 01:15 PM

If you have a copy of windows lying around, parallels is a great program that offers benefits beyond just running FOF. I'll keep an eye out for hot deals on it and post here.

mattlanta 01-24-2014 05:53 PM

I've gotten it to start up using Wine. I just played around with it until I got it to run. Not sure how to get it to use the logos though. I downloaded the glossy logos from the sticky thread and "replaced" the ones in the pictures folder and still nothing shows up.

Also, which folder do I place the gameplan files to?

I only have 1 run left on my trial. I'm hoping to figure some of the basic "bugs" out before I purchase the game.

Thanks.

mattlanta 01-26-2014 02:20 AM

My trials are up and I still have a few problems with running it on Wine. The scoreboard doesn't show up during simulations. And the logos do not show up even though I did it right ("replaced" the logos in the pictures folder). Any help would be appreciated.

stevew 01-26-2014 02:43 AM

I forgot that when I would run the custom browser it would crash and that the scoreboards and year end thing won't show. It wasn't important to me but I could see how someone might want those things.

mattlanta 01-26-2014 11:34 PM

I think I can get a copy of Windows for $10-20 from my school using my student discount, so if I can get my hands on a copy of Parallels to try something out I could see if the same issues apply.

I wish there was more tech support for Mac users!

stevew 01-30-2014 06:11 PM

The edu discount on Parallels is 39.95 if you need it

Thanks, man. Have you ever tried it with Parallels? Does everything work with it (Scoreboards, end of the year awards, etc.)

I'd just like to know before I invest nearly twice as much ($60) to be able to access the game before I actually buy the game itself. It would essentially cost me $100 for FOF7.

stevew 01-31-2014 04:37 PM

I'm not sure. The other easy alternative would be to bootcamp with your windows license and just switch over when you wanna play FOF. Or you can try out some of these parallels type things for free for 30 days. I haven't ever bothered to try out parallels though.

sjshaw 02-01-2014 12:54 AM

Everything works with Parallels.

antdroid 02-28-2014 12:25 AM

I run the game on a mac using Wine and it works fine except the aforementioned Scoreboard and End Season summary page. The logos show up for me just fine.

Never had an issue with Parallels. Runs exactly the same as my windows machine.

StackSocial has CrossOver in their new Name Your Own Price bundle with a few other handy apps. Right now the average price to get all the apps is just $6.84. It's an incredible deal.

I was about to post this.

I'm going to buy the bundle, but don't need Crossover (I use Parallels).

I'd sell the license for $4 if anybody has no need for the rest of the bundle and wants to save $3.33 (the bundle is at $7.33 now and rising).

PM me.

stevew 04-24-2014 09:45 PM

Is anything else in that bundle any good? You want PayPal or something?

stevew 02-03-2015 04:58 PM

If you go to the code weavers site and select Crossover Mac and click the plus to More options, select the 1 month support and enter the promo code "Tribeca" you can get it for 29.96. I installed Steam to my mac today and I was playing all my windows games with basically little to no hassle.

I also was able to grab a xbox one driver for the controller which works wired, Xone-driver-0.4.0

bstar 02-03-2015 05:24 PM

I've been playing FoF 2007 on my iMac for years. As others have mentioned, Crossover/Wine as issues with the Scoreboard and some other elements of the game so I stopped using that method.

The best way is to just install Virtual box: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

It's free and works extremely well, no need to buy anything. Actually, you will need a windows license, but winXP works fine.

The other option that I'm excited for is steam's streaming feature. I stream a few games to my macbook pro from my gaming machine, I assume FoF will work just fine.

stevew 02-03-2015 05:53 PM

My Mac pro(2008) hated virtual box. May have been too large of an ask to do win7

I used winxp with 2gb ram on my quad core iMac, late 2009. Virtual Box ran horribly when it only had 4gb of ram, upgrading to 16gb made all the difference. If you don't have reasonably new hardware then Crossover/Wine is probably your only choice.

stevew 02-04-2015 11:05 PM

It has 2 quad core xeons and 12 megs of ram, but the chips are older I guess. Giving it 4 cores worked worse than 1. I should have tried xp instead of 7.

sjshaw 09-02-2015 02:37 PM

FYI, I bought a Crossover license in an app bundle deal that I'm not going to use. If anybody wants it for a nominal fee, PM me.

ezlee2 09-04-2015 07:14 AM

I've been running windows on my Mac with VMWare Fusion. Never had an issue.
