2014 Scam Thread
 

Figured I'd start one of these. Just got a call, from India, routed through PA, that or they just had a really heavy accent. They claimed their network was receiving malware from my computer. We can help you clean your system, etc. etc.

Anyhow, I figure you might want to let any non-computer savvy relatives know about this.

I got that one a while back.

I've been getting these forever. Sometimes I like to play along but it gets boring after a while.

next time I plan to say "Oh my god, let me go check," then set the phone down and go eat dinner.

Thats my approach to all such things - I figure if I waste at least 30 seconds of their time before they realise then I've saved at least one person from being annoyed by a call that day.

Thankfully he said no once they asked to take over his computer. I quickly googled it and the Youtube post above (and many others) were word for word the same as his call. Scam!
