The Rock and HBO team for *Ballers"
HBO Orders ‘Ballers’ to Series from Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg | Variety
Sounds like this could be interesting. |
HBO has ordered Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg’s half-hour project “Ballers” to series.
Series centers on a group of former and current football players and will star Johnson, marking his first major foray into TV series acting. Johnson will play a retired athlete, while other characters in “Ballers” include a highly spiritual pro athlete, financial adviser, sports agent, ESPN sideline reporter and ex-wife of a pro football player. Steve Levinson — Wahlberg’s manager — penned the pilot for “Ballers” and exec produces alongside Johnson, Wahlberg, Evan Reilly, Dany Garcia and Peter Berg. Berg also helmed the “Ballers” pilot. Hiram Garcia is co-exec producing. “Ballers” will be produced by HBO with Closest to the Hole Prods., Leverage Entertainment and White Buffalo Entertainment. FILED UNDER: Dwayne Johnson |
It's too bad Berg is involved. All he can do is shake the camera around instead of trying to tell a story. At least Greengrass does it because his studio won't pay the big money for special effects. I'll probably pass on Blair Witch Football.

I hear Robert Wuhl is available.

Is this a "Lone Survivor"-related complaint, or something else in Berg's history? |

I thought this was going to be a biopic of the FOFC Ballers trip to the WSOP with The Rock playing Quiksand. I'd rather see that. |
Smash better be in this in some capacity. He could easily be the "Highly spiritual pro athlete." The way that dude could pray before Dillon games.

Just saw the trailer, looks like something enjoyable. |
The Rock is great but that doesn't look that interesting. Trailer is just guys fist bumping and giving hugs. Is there any plot to it? Feels a lot like Entourage but with sports which would not be my cup of tea.
