Most powerful anti virus- spyware.
 

I am pretty frustrated. I seem to have a pretty nasty spyware called sweet packs and probably other stuff. Firefox basically doesn't work at all and my laptop is slow as fuck. I tried all the inline fixes for sweet packs and nothing.

What's the best software that cleans this crap up and can run regular scans to get rid of future instances. Anyone tried my clean PC? I don't mind paying for something. If need be. I currently have McAfee and it doesn't seem to do shit.

Any feedback appreciated.

I used to always use Microsoft Security Essentials but I've read it's not quite as good as it once was. I don't know how true that is, but I have since switched to the free Avast. I haven't had any problems. I don't know anything about pay protection services.

Some others might have suggestions but this has always been my go to for cleaning up. YMMV.

• Run CCleaner to speed up your scans
• Run a full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), or whatever you are using
• Run a full scan with MalwareBytes (disable Real-time protection in MSE or this will take forever)
  Microsoft Security Essentials -> Settings -> Real-time protection -> Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection"
• Run TDSSKiller
• Run rkill
• Re-enable MSE

Edit: But really, I'm not sure how worth it paying for antivirus is other then some type of piece of mind. Most antivirus softwares (free ones) test pretty close to the pay ones. Those that you pay for that offer "Suite" packages with other options always seem unnecessary, or have free options. Really not running in local admin all the time and disabling Java probably protects you perfectly fine with Avast or MSE as reportedly 90% of exploits target Java.

If all else fails, combo fix has never failed to get rid of anything Ive found. But it can change some things permanently...odd registry things that can not be reversed short of a re install.

This is what I was going to recommend. It's just for removal so you'd need something else for monitoring but ComboFix is by far the most powerful in terms of cleaning viruses that I've found.

Looks like combo fix isn't available for windows 8.

I use AVG and Superantispyware.

Generally AVG is what I use for a virus scanner, Crap Cleaner for maintenance, but I always suggest Spybot Search and Destroy if you have an infected computer. They have a free version that does just fine but you can go up to a Pro Version if you wish.

And stop visiting porn and you will be fine. :D

Amazed it took 11 posts in for that. I actually don't visit any porn sites in this laptop because my wife and son use it. I suspect I got something from a sports streaming site.

Probably a safe bet, it's terrifying to venture to Abby odd those without ad and flash blocking extensions installed.

The only thing that scares me on porn sites is the social media sharing buttons.

I have had essentials for awhile now and had no problems. I throw a malwarebytes scan in every once in awhile just to have a 2nd opinion.

I think sweet packs got installed on my computer at one time. I dont think it is very hard to get rid of that one. I actually think all I had to do to get rid of that was uninstall it from the uninstall programs menu. It installs itself as a check item on some other programs.

Do your own homework, otherwise you just get anecdotal evidence that one program is better than another. Read the reports on these sites for some help: AV-TEST - The Independent IT-Security Institute: Home and AV-Comparatives Independent Tests of Anti-Virus Software » AV-Comparatives . Conspiracy theorists are going to say that these labs get paid off by the AV companies to get higher scores so believe what you want about that. Keep in mind that you need (or should have) one AV program and one anti-spyware program. Currently I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security and Malwarebytes Pro fwiw. Check out some of the user reviews at NewEgg.com for more opinions.

Hitman Pro also comes highly recommended by people I know but I don't have any experience with it.

I visit porn sites all the time and all I have ever used is Essentials.

MSE doesn't detect enough of the bad stuff for me. And the question that I have is for people that use it, how would you know if you had a rootkit or keylogger if it's not detected?
