Thought this was interesting enough to warrant its own thread. I think the world is a cooler place because there are things like this out there.

The world is more interesting with crap like this.

Things like this absolutely fascinate me.

Great find, Lathum.

Imagine what these people must think when they see ships and helicopters. And how absolutely foreign their lifestyle is to ours? It's almost like they are from a different time.

This is going to completely destroy any productivity I may have had at work today

Curse you, Sentinelese!

molson 03-14-2014 10:08 AM

There's quite a few tribes of "uncontacted peoples" out there, mostly in South America. Usually they're not as hostile as the Sentinelese.

Uncontacted peoples - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I can't remember the details but I remember reading about a tribe in South America who one by one, left for city life. There was one holdout who figured all of his tribesmen had just gone off and died. Finally, he left too, and discovered the luxuries of city life like running water. He found one of his brothers who had left more than 10 years before and beat him with his shoe for not coming back to get him.

WTF is that show all about.

I keep seeing commercials and all I can gather is I would be afraid to see any of those people naked.

A man and woman are dropped off in some wilderness area with only one item (usually a knife or something similar) (including no clothes). They then have to survive 30 days on their own. They have to battle the weather, wildlife and other things during that time.

Have to wonder if the Portman capture and subsequent deaths didnt shape their hostility. If strangers show up and people die...you might not be too welcoming either.

Either way it is a fascinating tribe and culture that I had never heard of before today.

What Alan said.. it's a REAL survivor show. No money for completing it, just satisfaction.

A man and a woman each with 1 item, totally naked dropped off in a remote area.

I think the new season is 2 and 2, but watch some of the season from last year.. it's some crazy stuff.

TroyF 03-14-2014 12:10 PM

We need to take the aircraft carrier there and send a welcoming party with the FOFC old timers. Of course, with my bad hip, I'll have to sit this one out. Good luck guys!!!!!!

Kodos 03-14-2014 12:15 PM

I'm sure it would be a spear-ited adventure.

It's a cool show. No camera crews or anything, they just have a little minicam. They're not like professional survivor-people either IIRC.

no, we need to and your "talents". so if they start chasing us with spears we can count on you to take a few for the team while we get away ;)

Kodos 03-14-2014 01:47 PM

I don't have to outrun that bear, I just have to outrun you.

Well, at least I have talent at something I guess. I'm starting my retreat now, maybe I'll have a chance.
