UEFA Champions League predictions competition 2014/15
Back after a couple of seasons without, here's the 2014/2015 installment of the FOFC UEFA Champions League prediction competition.
We'll be playing in three rounds: * Group stage * Round of 16 * Quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final The deadlines for making predictions are set in stone, they will be the day of the first game played of that round. Usually games are played at 2:45 PM eastern, but sometimes games in Russia or the Ukraine are moved forward, so to be safe make sure to post your prediction before noon Eastern. * Group stage deadline: September 16th 2015 * Round of 16 deadline: February 17th 2015 * Quarter-finals No editing of posts, or you will run the risk that I end up copy pasting your pre-edited content and never catch your changes. It's even better not to changes your predictions for any round, but it won't be disallowed. In the group stage you will predict the final standing of all eight groups. A maximum of 40 points can be earned: 1 point for each correctly picked team to finish top2 and reach the round of 16, 1 point for correctly picking the third place team that goes into the UEFA Europa League and 1 bonus point for a correctly picked first or second placed team. In the round of 16, two points will be earned for picking the correct winning team for each pair.
(Yes, correctly picking the final will be crucial, eventually.) But let's start with the Group stage predictions! The draw is out and has given us the following groups:

Group A is a bit tricky with the four-way tie, but I think Juventus is first on superior goal difference, with Olympiakos last based on the same tie-breaker. Atletico is ahead of Malmö on total goals scored. Elsewhere, ties are broken based on head-to-head results (Basel over Liverpool, Anderlecht over Galatasaray on away goals, Maribor over Schalke on away goals) or on overall goal difference (Zenit over Monaco.) |

Points change news flash!
Somehow I missed that the UEFA has changed the format a little bit since the last FOFC prediction competition. The quarterfinals are now a separate draw. Accordingly, I'll have to change the points system for the last three rounds: Quarter finals: 5 points per correct pick (max 20 points). Semi finals and final:
This will give roughly the same number of points as with the previous editions. This also means a new deadline: Semi-finals and the final: May 5th 2015 |
