2014 NFL Regular Season, Week 4

Rogers has set himself up for a bad quote, if the team doesn't come together, after his telling folks to just relax, it'll be okay in Green Bay.

Matthean 09-24-2014 12:53 PM

Packers vs. Bears will be interesting to see who wins. Lions against the Jets so they could end up being alone in first place. Philly at San Fran will likely be the game of the week. Hard to imagine San Fran starting out 1-3.

I'm sure those standing section tickets are full price!

I don't know. If the Niners don't find a pass rush soon, I'm afraid the Eagles will abuse the secondary with their speedy receivers. Just look at what John Brown did this past weekend.

Well, FWIW, all of the big catches Brown had were against blown assignments/coverages.

Rubber meets the road for the G-Men tonight. Have to win and get to 2-2. After tonight they have a rough stretch where they get Atlanta at home, @ philly and Dallas, Indy at home, then to Seattle.

If they drop to 1-3 tonight they are likely looking at 2-7 after that stretch.

Yeah, but when you read the letter you realize there's a group of douchebag fans standing up and blocking everyone's view in that particular section. Obviously this is an ongoing problem.

I didn't have an issue with it. I kind of agree, standing on third down, etc...ok, standing on first and 20 with my 4 year old sitting behind you, annoying.

Abe Sargent 09-25-2014 07:35 PM

Let's go Giants!

BillJasper 09-25-2014 07:39 PM

I have no idea who is even playing tonight. Watching American Dad on Netflix.

cuervo72 09-25-2014 08:13 PM

Looks like he tapped that left foot to me.

cuervo72 09-25-2014 08:17 PM

But not with the ball, it seems.

wade moore 09-25-2014 08:19 PM

Yeah, I think the slight shift of the ball was the issue.

Matthean 09-25-2014 08:38 PM

Amazing what happens when Eli doesn't throw INTs.

cuervo72 09-25-2014 08:40 PM

I wonder how many people watching know who "THAT Joe Walton" was.

sabotai 09-25-2014 08:50 PM

Okay, I need some help with this one. How can he have completed the process of catching the pass (two feet down, made a football move, whatever), and still be a defenseless receiver?

According to the rules, as soon as the process is complete, he's now a runner. As a runner, helmet-to-helmet contact is not illegal, so....

Lathum 09-25-2014 08:50 PM

How are you considered a defenseless receiver if you have already made the catch and are running with it?

Abe Sargent 09-25-2014 08:56 PM

Redskins, how do you let Victor Cruz get THAT much space on an sideline toss with :07 left on the clock?

cuervo72 09-25-2014 08:59 PM

That's...a pretty good question on the catch and run. It looked to me too that he ducked, and just got sandwiched - with the two Giants hitting each other just as much as Paul.

wade moore 09-25-2014 09:08 PM

Since when is helmet to helmet not illegal on a runner?

Since always.

sabotai 09-25-2014 09:20 PM

Here's the rule for defenseless receiver

"(2) A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or
has not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending
contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player;"

So I guess they're saying that even though he completed the catch, he didn't have enough time to protect himself so he's still labeled "defenseless".

Abe Sargent 09-25-2014 09:25 PM

Do you all think the football gods will smile on teh Bengals this year for the Devon Still story?

sabotai 09-25-2014 09:26 PM

The Giants defense have commenced "melt down mode".

sabotai 09-25-2014 09:28 PM

Well nevermind...

wade moore 09-25-2014 09:31 PM

Ummmm,... No?

I can't paste the text on my iPad, but...

http://www.nfl.com/static/content/pu...er_Conduct.pdf

8g and 8j clearly state you can't use your helmet.

wade moore 09-25-2014 09:33 PM

I see the note at the bottom, I stand corrected.

NobodyHere 09-25-2014 09:34 PM

Eli pins Washington down on the 1.

Very clever by Eli.

Lathum 09-25-2014 09:34 PM

Looked like a TD to me.

Lathum 09-25-2014 09:36 PM

I think we can end the "Kirk Cousins is the man in DC now" talk

NobodyHere 09-25-2014 09:36 PM

Yup

"(g) If a player uses any part of his helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/”hairline” parts) or
facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily."

That's the "Spearing" rule.

"(j) if a player illegally launches into a defenseless opponent."

A runner is not "defenseless".

Helmet-to-helmet contact has never been an automatic penalty against a runner like it is against a QB or defenseless receiver. Helmet-to-helmet contact happens on running plays all the time. It just happened on the last running play to Jennings.

EDIT:

Or I could have just read one more line and quoted that... :)

Lathum 09-25-2014 10:02 PM

Wow. Eli with the rushing TD.

JPhillips 09-25-2014 10:06 PM

Gruden didn't make it any easier for Cousins. up until the midway point in the second quarter, when they were down by no more than one TD, Washington had twice as many throws as runs. I saw that in Cincy and wondered why he kept asking Dalton to be a superstar.

Lathum 09-25-2014 10:10 PM

I actually feel bad for cousins.

Anything to quiet the whole, "OMG, there are 3 former MSU QBs winning in the NFL" thing that's going around is fine by me. :D

The Jackal 09-25-2014 10:24 PM

That Paulsen fumble is what killed the game, I said it then .. granted the defense came out better right at the beginning of the 2nd half, but there was too much to do, and Cousins made some mistakes. Probably the worst secondary in the league without D-Hall .. and wasn't far off with him.

The letter doesn't seem that bad. They aren't asking fans to sit, just stand with the flow of the game. Don't stand during the entire game and block everyone's view.

stevew 09-25-2014 10:34 PM

Don't worry. I'm Devin Gardner will be an NFL starter next year to balance things out!
