Startup Video Game Company

My Brother-in-law was going through a box of his childhood things yesterday, and he found a copy of the box of the computer game The Seven Cities of Gold from 1984.

Here's the blurb on the back of the box about the company who made it:

"Electronic Arts. ABOUT OUR COMPANY: We're an association of electronic artists who share a common goal. We want to fulfill the potential of personal computing. That's a tall order. But with enough imagination and enthusiasm, we think there's a good chance for success. Our products, like this game, are evidence of our intent."

I know that it's a cutthroat industry, but these "Electronic Artists" guys just might make it.

Seven Cities of Gold is one of those games that I never want to play again, because I have such great memories of it that I don't want to ruin it by seeing the dated graphics and probably limited gameplay. Felt so open-world for it's time.

My copy of Larry Bird vs. Dr. J One-on-One is still in a box somewhere at my mom and dad's house.

I used to play that with friends on a C64. One player at a time with everyone else huddled over watching and giving suggestions. Seven Cities, MULE (4 players!) and Pirates -- such great games for that time period.

I do want a remake. Pirates is in its (at least) 3rd version and would love to see a fourth. I think they could do it for Seven Cities.

Don't click if you don't want to be reminded of the dated graphics!

One of my all-time favorite games. I have a working Commodore 128 and monitor, but the disk drive is broken. I've been looking for a reasonably priced replacement for years just so I could play it (and a few others) again. I've tried emulators, but have never been able to find anything that allows switching between the game and map disk.

There's a few games that Dad and I would both play a ton of. MULE was one of them, and probably had the most combined hours between us.

Loved that game and Mule and Telengard for the win.

Had a character in Telengard who could kill just anything, even the dragons, but those dragons made him an awesome dude! Talk about Dated Graphics!

I always liked that Sierra Games was founded by a husband and wife team. Played so much King's Quest as a kid.

This is a game that does not get the respect it deserves.
