The first pick from any NFL roster

Good news! You've been made GM of the NFL expansion Los Angeles Whatchamacallits!

Better news! You get your choice of one player from any current roster!

Bad news... you have to fill out your roster through trades and free agent signings.

There are lots of players that could be picked, but I didn't want to make the poll too unwieldy. Did I get the best ones? I'm sure we'll see.

Thank you for your time.

Andrew Luck...not even close for me.

albionmoonlight 07-22-2015 08:02 AM

If I were building a win now team, I would pick Rodgers.

If I were building a team under the constraints listed above, which would require a few offseasons to build to contention, then I would pick Luck.

End of thread.

Logan 07-22-2015 09:02 AM

I think you still go Rodgers. He will be able to lead a team deep into the playoffs at 34 and still at 37.

BillJasper 07-22-2015 09:10 AM

Rodgers, Luck, Watt. Not even sure what Wilson is doing in this poll. He's a decent enough player, but I'm not sure we ever even know his name with Marshawn Lynch and that defense.

Yep, I'm back. It's good to see you're still here. There are still lots of familiar screen names hanging around waiting for TCY2. :p

And I'd like to thank everyone for responding to my polls and corresponding posts. Keep those opinions coming!

I'm taking Russell in this scenario. I'm not sure I could keep Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck alive behind a patchwork offensive line. Wilson plays at a high level behind one that is only a little better than patchwork as it stands.

MizzouRah 07-22-2015 12:26 PM

Luck

BillJasper 07-22-2015 05:33 PM

Whoever I take, I'm flipping them for picks.

Hinkie? Is that you?

Suicane75 07-22-2015 06:11 PM

Exactly. Under the constraints of the OP, I'm picking whoever would yield the highest package in return. Rodgers or Luck.

MIJB#19 07-22-2015 06:32 PM

Andrew Luck.

stevew 07-22-2015 06:37 PM

I thought this was team by team when I saw the thread title. Was debating whether I'd go Brown or Bell from the Steelers. I really feel like both are HOFers by the time they retire.

Julio Riddols 07-22-2015 06:43 PM

I would take Bridgewater for reasons that will become obvious over the next 10 years.

Bold choice but I like it.

I think Bridgewater could become an elite QB. The thing that scares me about him is his frame and I wonder if, long term, he'll be able to keep coming back from NFL beatings.

Danny 07-22-2015 06:51 PM

Lebron James

This would be an awesome idea for a draft. One player per team snake draft.

Once he becomes more capable of throwing downfield he will become elite. Right now he is a move the chains dink and dump QB. Id speculate defenses realize this and will overplay the shorter passes this year. He will need to adjust.

Think we could get 20-24 to play?

stevew 07-22-2015 08:49 PM

20 teams, 22 picks per team, max 1 player per team?

stevew 07-22-2015 08:54 PM

Or what about Tecmo style 9 on 9. 3-4OL, QB, 4-5 WR/TE/RB & 5-6 DL/LB, 3-4 DB

stevew 07-22-2015 09:01 PM

There probably needs to be a QB penalty. Something like if you draft a QB your next selection is delayed by 10-20 picks?

ColtCrazy 07-22-2015 09:20 PM

I'm taking Luck. He's really impressed me more so than Manning in their first 3 years.

If it's a non-QB, I'm taking a lineman, maybe Tyron Smith. I want an anchor for my line for the next 12-14 years.

Simbo Klice 07-22-2015 09:42 PM

I would take Watt for an expansion team, but Luck tempts me too. I would just be worried a QB gets Tim Couch/David Carr-ified in those first couple years... Plus, you know you'll be drafting high for the first couple of years and can find your QB there once you have more of an infrastructure.

yes

Solecismic 07-23-2015 12:13 AM

Luck seems like the obvious pick. But in six months I wonder if it's Jameis Winston.

One pick from each team, snake draft - that would be interesting.

I was thinking maybe QB, RB, 2WR, TE, 3OL, 5DL/LB, 3DB for 8v8, which would be 16 rounds and probably covers as many of the non-skill positions as people want. But 9v9 is good as well...

Heh.. I was just trying to make one of those posts I can quote in 6 or 7 years and pretend I am some kind of football genius. I do think there is a decent chance he will be that kind of QB though. He has that clutch gene that the great ones have, and I think the Vikings and Packers will be battling tooth and nail for the North as early as 2016.

I do agree he has a slight frame though. If anything will be his downfall, I think it will be injuries way before lack of skill.

Racer 07-23-2015 05:33 AM

Andrew Luck.

Danny 07-23-2015 06:00 AM

Rodgers and Luck are the only options here really

BYU 14 07-23-2015 06:35 AM

I would have to say Luck too, much more wear left on the tires and I think he will have the better overall career than Wilson.

QuikSand 07-23-2015 09:48 AM

I agree that it's Rodgers or Luck, but I think the current differential is small enough you have to take Luck now. A year ago I'd have agreed with albion's comment above... but now I think you go young and clearly the real deal.
