Mt. Rushmore of American Rivers

The only rule:

The river must have the majority of it's length, but not necessarily all, in the U.S.

Mississippi River
Colorado River
Hudson River
Delaware River

east coast bias rears its ugly head

Or getting the right answer.

:)

Phil Rivers
Doc Rivers
Rivers Cuomo
Doc Rivers' Daughter.

stevew 07-25-2015 06:02 PM

Actually replace Doc with Joan Rivers

revrew 07-25-2015 09:35 PM

Mississippi, Colorado, Hudson, Rio Grande.

Tough to leave out Ohio, Missouri, anything in the Southeast ...

ColtCrazy 07-25-2015 09:44 PM

Wow. No love for the Ohio. The French and Indian War was fought primarily over the control over the Forks of the Ohio. It helped lead the western expansion into new territory following the war. It's still a major trade route through the midwest. Other than the Mississippi, I can't think of a more influential river.

My list:

Mississippi
Ohio
Missouri
Colorado

CU Tiger 07-25-2015 10:17 PM

Mississippi
Colorado
Yukon
Missouri

Idk... I don't think a whole lot of people outside it would put Mississippi on their Mt. Rushmore of states.

Yeah, the #1 river from New England would be the Connecticut River. Which is a little amusing since the majority of it is in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts, but I guess the river was named (a.k.a. misspelled from the Indian name for it) before the colony/state of Connecticut was founded, so the state was actually named after the river rather than what you would assume.

Tigercat 07-26-2015 02:24 PM

Mississippi (Missouri is off the hook because Mississippi drains it)
Colorado
Columbia
Yukon

So you have the major rivers of central and SE US, SW US, NW US, and of Alaska.

Warhammer 07-26-2015 06:39 PM

Susquehanna
Delaware
Hudson
Connecticut

Rivers of the Original 13 Colonies

Yosemite Sam is weeping at the exclusion of the Pecos River

Mississippi is like the shittiest part of East Germany plus natural disasters

Suicane75 07-26-2015 08:56 PM

Any river that has one of my shoes, and a loaf of my poop in it does not belong on this list. Sorry Delaware.

MrBug708 07-26-2015 10:25 PM

San Gabriel
Kern
American
Colorado

nol 07-27-2015 12:03 AM

There's no way to not include the Missouri River (of Lewis and Clark fame).

tarcone 07-27-2015 02:55 PM

Mississippi
Missouri
Arkansas
Iowa

All rivers I have lived or vacationed near.

albionmoonlight 07-27-2015 02:57 PM

Mississippi
Colorado
Rio Grande
Yukon

Abe Sargent 07-27-2015 03:24 PM

As someone who loves to canoe, kayak, and whitewater raft, my Mt. Rushmore of rivers would be very different than yours and would include the

New River is my clear #1, and then it varies from there by your personal preference

There are places where the Colorado is really good. The Arkansas. There's a couple near Seward Alaska that are prime, etc.

JPhillips 07-27-2015 03:55 PM

The New is great for that stuff. When I worked summers in NC there was always a trip to the New.

CU Tiger 07-27-2015 04:52 PM

Ditto ..if we are talking recreation I'm a big fan of the New, and the Chatooga
