How early to show up for a wedding?

Event is at 2pm. It's 5 mins down the road. I hate going to weddings period*.

Before everyone says get there at 1pm, can I make a reasonable case for 1:15 or even 1:30?

digamma 09-12-2015 06:25 AM

Be seated by 1:45.

rowech 09-12-2015 07:33 AM

I wouldn't get there until 1:45 unless close family member.

bhlloy 09-12-2015 09:24 AM

Just don't be late. Like everyone says 1:45 is fine. I've never been to one that is ready to go at the listed time anyway, but it will look shitty if you are rushing in close to the start time

Thoughts on a pocket flask? I think I have some Jager lying around

Ragone 09-12-2015 10:15 AM

Try to time it to show up right when the official says "if anyone has any objections speak now"

with said flask in hand..

after some serious pre gaming.

Dutch 09-12-2015 10:37 AM

You are going to be the worst best-man ever...but the payoff should be your speech. I want to go now.

Logan 09-14-2015 09:43 AM

I thought this was going to be something like: "it's called for 2, but I'm guessing it won't actually start until closer to 2:30. Can I show up at 2:15?"

My guess is you were way, WAY in the clear compared to most guests by "settling" for a 1:30 arrival.

I got there kind of early, but the entire ceremony was at most a half hour. I was going to stay for the reception if it was formally catered(mainly cause I had RSVP'd), but it was more of a cookies and punch type thing in the basement so I peaced out

Wear a jacket with a Camelback underneath filled with your favorite libation. Try not to make the mouthpiece too obvious.

Cookies and punch as the extent of the refreshments at a wedding reception? Is that a thing that happens often? I don't know if I've ever heard of that.

HomerSimpson98 09-14-2015 04:20 PM

Yeah not sure I would have even sent a f'ng gift much less gone. Weak sauce.

RainMaker 09-14-2015 04:41 PM

The last wedding I went to was scheduled at 5. I got there at like 4:58 thinking it wouldn't start till 5:15 anyway. It started at exactly 5. Most everyone had gotten there too and I was in the back during the ceremony which was fine.

So I would say at least 15 minutes early in case their start time really means their start time.

The timing of this post is epic! (just messing with you a bit... I did chuckle).

A few years back, I went to a wedding of a family member that was a dry reception. The bad part is that this was never mentioned until we got to the reception. My brother and I both thought this was completely ridiculous, so we decided to make a liquor run. Word got out, and pretty soon everyone was coming over to give us their requests.

We recruited a couple of people, and we smuggled everything in a bottle or two at a time and hid them under our table. It didn't take long before our table was the most popular table in the place.

In the end, it was one of the most fun weddings we've attended. Although the bride's family was pretty ticked off about it.

I could elaborate, but I'm just happy the Bride found a decent guy, even if the situation puzzles me.

You gotta hit that Game of Thrones style then.
