List notable teams in NFL's Super Bowl era

Hi guys. I'm kicking around putting together a teambuilder solo dynasty of historic NFL teams in NCAA 2014. What notable teams would be good? I'm planning to do 12 teams (6 NFC/6 AFC). I'm looking to create teams with varied styles.

I have:

NFC

Montana era 49ers
'85 Bears
90s Cowboys
Greatest show on Turf Rams
Favre's Packers

Borderline teams
Seahawks
Giants

AFC

2000s Patriots
1980s Dolphins
Manning's Colts
Elway's TD-era Broncos
Buffalo Kelly-era

Borderline
Ravens - Ray Lewis era
Pittsburgh
San Diego - Fouts era

I will either play as 80s Dolphins or 80s Falcons. What great/fun to play against teams am I forgetting?

The Gibbs' Redskins?

Good candidate there. Riggins and Thiesman.

Wayne Fontes era Lions...

70s Steelers teams have to be included if the 80s Niners and early 90s Cowboys are.

They're great, but I will limit it to teams I remember. That's why the steel curtain may not make it either.

I do love Barry.

Lombardi/Star Packers
Knoll/Bradshaw Steelers
Walsh/Montana 49ers
Johnson/Aikman Cowboys
Belichek/Brady Patriots

There are a lot of other contenders but they either don't have sustained super bowl level dominance, Dolphins with Marino, Giants of the 80's & 90's, or they were so good for so long that they spanned multiple QB's. Redskins & Raiders for example.

They could be fun. Or Moss-Culpepper Vikings.

Patriots mid 00s
Bills early 90s
Dolphins early 70s
Jets ca. 2000?

Steelers late 70s
Ravens ca. 2010
Browns late 80s?
Bengals late 80s

Colts mid/late 00s
Titans early 00s / Oilers late 80s/early 90s
Jaguars? late 90s
Texans? ca. 2010

Broncos late 90s
Raiders mid 70s
Chargers? mid 00s
Chiefs mid 90s

Cowboys early 90s
Redskins mid 80s
Eagles early 00s
Giants late 80s

Bears mid 80s
Packers late 90s
Vikings mid 70s
Lions early 90s

Saints early 10s
Falcons? ca. 2010
Buccaneers circa 2000
Panthers mid 00s

49ers early 90s
Rams early 00s
Seahawks early 10s
Cardinals? early 10s

These seem to be the peaks for each respective franchise. Some of them are kind of stretches, given their overall lack of success...

From locally here in LA (back when, ya know, football was played here), you could also grab the late 80s-early 90s Raiders (Bo & Marcus Allen), late 60s Rams (Fearsome Foursome) and the late 80s Rams (Dickerson/Everett).

I like the greatest show on turf and the 88 Bengals.

That's Chris Everett, right?

Something like that.

The hypothetical team I am most interested in is the 1990s Packers if they had drafted Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, or Deion Sanders instead of Tony Mandrich at #2 in 1989.

ColtCrazy 09-24-2015 07:54 PM

Just 6 each? Makes selecting tricky, but you'll have some damn good teams. I've thrown together some that give you variety of styles and some of the great players.

I think NFC could be 6 of these 7:
1989 49ers
1985 Bears
1991 Lions (weakest but best Sanders team)
1995 Cowboys
1962 Packers
1986 Giants

And the AFC could be 6 of these 7:
1978 Steelers
2007 Patriots
2005 Colts
1964 Browns
1972 Dolphins
1990 Bills
1976 Raiders
