Survivor: Cambodia
I liked the first two episodes so far.
I think Jeff Varner has definitely been the star so far. Abi-Maria doesn't look like she belongs on an All-Star season. She doesn't seem to be at all strategic (she told Shirin she was against her) and seems to completely lack social skills. I could see her getting dragged pretty far though particularly if she makes the merge since she has 0 shot of winning the jury vote. Regarding preview for next week:

I like that they're switching from 2 to 3 tribes. They've never done that before.
I'm hoping that Spencer can somehow get a good draw, like ending up with Fishbach and Tasha. |
My wife thinks they are going to 3 tribes to save Spencer.
|
There have been rumors of fixing the swaps ever since they first did it back in Africa, but I don't buy it. It would be too much of a risk. And I doubt they'd screw over Joe (who was in a terrific spot) just to save Spencer.
|
Yeah, I don't but it either, because the designs of the challenges would have to change to accommodate three teams instead of two. I don't think they can do that on the fly.
|
Man, I wish they'd have a season where they actually let the tribes breathe for four or five episodes before switching everything up. It's getting to the point where there's not much reason to watch the first few episodes, since everything gets reset so quickly.
Let's hope they don't just do a random draw. Always hate seeing someone's game destroyed because they picked the wrong pebble out of a bag. |
I like the early mix up and hope it is random. I hate that it is all about the game from the minute they hit camp.
|
I don't think they've realigned tribes this early in a while, though I could be wrong about that. I remember they mixed things up very early in the bizarre season with racially divided tribes.
I think it's a good move this season because of pre-game alliances and the fact that we, the audience, are already familiar with all the players. In all-star seasons, the more shuffles the better. |
I really loved the way the idol was hidden at the challenge. that was brilliant.
Got a bit of a chuckle in the first episode when Jeff informed them they'd be going to tribal immediately after the challenge. Immediate cut to tribal, where it is now dark. [I know things happen much slower than they appear, but that was still a rather jarring edit] |
*throws this show across the room*
If we have to put up with Abi all season, it's gonna be just like a hantz season. no thanks... and where was jeff to call tasha out on her crap. you're a 'family'? Last I checked you were 2 tribes and if you had the numbers the other tribe would be outta here. they must have cut out something about varner. what he did did not look like anything. his tribe jumped down his throat for nothing. such stupid people that are all going to be tossed off the show soon. It's sad that Varner might be next. Or Woo. Both are great. |

thought it was kinda BS that the new tribe had nothing waiting for them at their beach...they all put in the effort to build a shelter, and some of them had won something in terms of comfort already...to have then start all over while the others got to go back to their beaches and rest, eat, and sleep comfortably was really unfair...was it any wonder they lost the challenge.
im ok with switching things up and the social implications, but this time the way they did it introduced way too much bias. |

eaglefan suggested that it would have been great if they ALL had to start over. |
Is Joe in the 99th percentile of doing everything?
|
Explain to me why Ciera would vote for Savage? Wouldn't that have basically screwed up the bottom four's entire plan, even if they'd been able to flip Spencer.
Anyways, happy to see Cass out. I'm sure she's at home doing interviews into her mirror about how she's Chaos Cass and she's super interesting and entertaining. |

Her vote made no sense. |
Quote:
I think Ciera knew the plan wasn't going to come to fruition and just wanted to throw an insult vote at Savage. She may be trying to send a signal that she had nothing against Tasha and her problem was just with Savage, thus reinforcing the story she told them about Savage's plans. The majority alliance was very smart in having Spencer vote for Ciera in the split. Kass's plan relied on Spencer being on the high part of the split so it would've gone down 5-4-4. This way, the best Spencer could do was force a 5-5-3 tie and Kass would've gone him in the revote anyways. |

I don't watch any of the Ponderosa or other online stuff -- did they address why the majority didn't split the vote this time? I think it was 9-3, so a 5-4 split should have been a no-brainer, shouldn't it?

I think everyone believed there was either no idols since nobody was searching for them. |
Quote:
Jeremy still has one. Both he and Kelley have really hidden their idol well this season. Savage's Ponderosa video didn't mention anything about splitting the vote. Maybe they didn't split it because they assumed that group of girls would have played it at the prior council or maybe they didn't split it because of the dissension that is in the group (Fishbach wanting Joe gone and Savage and Joe wanting Fishbach gone). Splitting the vote requires a fair amount of trust that I'm just not sure that primary group really has (they would have only needed two flippers). |
We just started watching. "I grew up watching these guys." I felt so old.
|
They should make a game show called "Beat Joe at Random Feats of Skill." I would watch that.

You could tell tonight it wasn't his game, not his strong suit, and he just worked it out. It's hard not to root for such greatness. |
I feel bad for Joe. I figure there is going to be a week where their is a competition that just isn't his strength, and they get him out that week.

I'd like to see what Joe when he doesn't win immunity. He's an elite physical player and good socially as well. However, I'd like to see him have to fight strategically. This has been one of my favorite seasons of Survivor ever. There are a lot of players fighting really hard to stay in the game. Gameplay wise, this and Heroes vs. Villains seem like they have been the two seasons with the highest overall level of gameplay. |

This season has been really good for the simple fact that it isn't one alliance picking off another alliance. Some solid moves tonight and some very bad decisions on when to split votes.

I agree, total head-scratcher on the vote splitting but it's been making for some good TV. I thought Jeremy was in the driver's seat and really deserved the win after the first hour, but that changed big time. |
As a long-time listener of Rob Cesternino's podcast, and someone who barely remembers Survivor: Tocantins, it has been REALLY WEIRD to watch Stephen Fishbach play Survivor. I mainly know him as the co-host of the podcast I always listen to on the way to work.
From that perspective I'm a bit bummed that everyone seems happy that he's gone, but I do think his experience shows a clear difference in knowing Survivor theory and going out and executing it. Jeremy is still in good shape with 8 people left and still with an idol, but I thought he was a shoo-in before last night and... it was not a good night for him. Even if next season is a good season it will be quite a come-down from this season, which is just insane. The skill we're seeing cannot be matched in a newcomer season, just no way. |

So whose hand is this...?
Attachment 5816 eaglefan thinks it's keith that goes down and it makes sense. It's definitely a HE as they show abi, kelly, and tasha. and the girls say "is HE okay?" It also isn't jeremy. Keith/joe/spencer... I don't like the idea of any of the three getting hit and leaving like this. whoever it is, he's twitching seizurously...:( |
Lloyd, I've been wondering why Rob and his cohort Josh(?) have been talking like fishback deserved to win and that everyone else were villains and he was a saint. Now I get it...he shares their podcast. :P
For me fish has been pretty durned obnoxious. granted it IS survivor. But his confessionals have gotten progressively worse. LIke he and abi have had the attitude that they deserve not only to win but that everyone has to do whatever they say all the time. It's funny that I'm totally rooting against jeremy at this point even tho initially I wanted him to do well. I think I always want the underdog to win because the people in power usually let it go to their head. As for next to go I"m hoping Abi and Tasha are the next ones ousted. |

uh ...oh....
check this out... here is the shot of an idol falling off... Attachment 5817 It is orange. The shot before was this... Attachment 5818 Kimmi is orange. In the shot are tasha, spencer, abi, jeremy, kimmi and joe. joe is dark green...:( there is a purple and light green off camera. which is kelley and keith. Now look at the previous picture of the hand. Dark green paint on the base. And the green flag in the background of both these latest pics indicates orange fell to the left ...thus... Kimmi dropped that thing onto joe's head???? |
I doubt an idol hits someone in the head. The injury is probably unrelated. Survivor does that all the time.
|
Twitter is getting a bit heated between Stephen and Spencer. Stephen keeps mentioning that he trusted the wrong guy and didn't expect his real life friend to flip. I think Spencer didn't appreciate that and downplayed their pregame friendship, which upset Stephen a bit.

Ciera and Spencer have probably been the two I've been rooting for the most, but I still enjoyed her blindside. Glad to see Joe be able survive without having to win immunity. |

It's a loved one episode so it could be anyone's loved one too. |
Quote:
I did think of that . Cause yes they always do the opposite. But it IS medical. The person is a white male. They are lying on the green. And I HAVE seen injury previews actually insinuate what they are about. They definitely insinuate something about a fallen idol with that shot although the orange idol specifically could be a lie. It is possible it doesn't pull him from the game though. I'm dreading that it is joe though. |
Just looking at the preview, I'm assuming that challenge is called "Survive having a heavy thing dropped on your head by the person two feet away from you".
|
They probably just started having a new concussion protocol and needed a way to test it out.
|
|
I swear, if they give us a season with this much strategy and tactical play and great tribal moves and all this next level gameplay, only to have it come down to "let's just do boys against the girls"...
Well, nothing will happen. But that would suck. |
Quote:
yup you called it. I sure fell for it. I feel silly. |
Quote:
That would really suck. They should have voted off abi. I can't deal with her. |
Quote:
I wonder if they'll give away some extra cash on a fan favorite vote this year. Would have to be Jeremy, right? |
Quote:
It would be Joe for sure. |
Quote:
absolutely joe. Almost everyone i like is tossed now. I don't think tasha and abi and kimmi have a chance. geez kimmi, hypocrit much? tis exactly why she narced on monica. I'm rooting for Spencer at this point. They HAVE to get rid of challenge monster keith now. that really bites that Joe's body gave out. didn't see that coming. |
Rooting for Spencer, but this is looking bad. I hate the all-girl alliances. They seem to happen way too much.
