It is fun being in NC. More local excitement for the game than most SBs.

I am going for Carolina, but if Denver wins and Manning goes out with his second Super Bowl, then that's pretty cool, too.

EagleFan 02-02-2016 03:46 PM

Lady Gaga to sing the anthem? Great, outsourcing that now...

Vince, Pt. II 02-02-2016 05:04 PM

It's amazing how much having the Super Bowl in your "town" impacts life. I work for the local utility company and we've been in a state of emergency readiness for a week already. I cannot wait for it all to be over.

Eh? She was born and raised in New York.

Dutch 02-02-2016 06:47 PM

I thought she was from outer space?

stevew 02-02-2016 06:58 PM

I don't like the weird outfits and such, but she's a talented performer, singer and actress.

Thought she was British? Not sure why, just always thought she was.

I've been to one of her concerts. It was pretty amazing, she's ultra-talented, but she's one weird person.

"Panthers LB Thomas Davis (forearm) was a full participant in practice today."

That makes me extremely happy.

Can't wait for this coming Monday (Australia time). It's been a tradition for me and a circle of friends to take the day off work to watch the game (...and start on the beers from 10am) for over 10 years now. We're down to 4 of us for this Monday, but we've found a US-themed bar (yeah, that's a thing over here right now) showing the game and I'll be cheering on Cam and the Panthers.

What kind of Outback Steakhouse rip-off is that? :D

Funny thing about Outback Steakhouse is that we have them in Australia too (same US chain), with the same American-styled food with bad, Crocodile Dundee-inspired names. :)

bhlloy 02-04-2016 09:46 AM

Outback is my absolute least favorite restaurant in the US. I'd rather go to Chilis or shudder Olive Garden

Awesome news on Davis. Hope he wins the MVP

Huh. Outback is my favorite restaurant. Or, at least it was before I became a vegetarian. The Aussie Cheese Fries and Victoria's filet are delicious!

Actually, I like Chili's and OG too.

Ive always wondered what Australian's would think about Outback Steakhouse. So there is nothing Australian about it but the theme.

If I ever go to Australia, do you have good Steakhouses??? Is that a thing there (besides the American imports?)

I'm a big Broncos fan, but I fear the Denver squad is seriously outmatched in this one.

It's more the way the food is prepared, serving sizes, and the side dishes that aren't 'Austrailan' - ie. cheese fries for example is not something you typically see here, except in US chains like Outback/Hooters/etc.

We've got similar chains to Outback here that are more traditionally Australian (steak with salad sides, fries or baked potato, etc.), but it's more the quality of the beef itself that makes a good Aussie steakhouse. Around Darling Harbour in Sydney there's 2 steakhouses that aren't chains but I rate them as highly as any I've had around the world.

Denver has the best defense in football but will be facing an attack it has yet to face before - NFL

I like Barnwell. I hope he is right here. Its so weird seeing Carolina picked by practically everyone.

I am loving the way the Broncos are completely being discounted .....again with apparently no chance in this game and from all accounts it is providing huge bulletin board material for them. Being the underdogs has played out well for this team recently and most of this year. Also, reports are that unlike in the New York SB where it was like 20-1 Seahawk to Broncos fans it appear tDenver may even see a slight home crowd advantage at SB50.

jaygr 02-05-2016 07:27 PM

I'm glad to finally have a year where I don't have a horse in the race. Admittedly I can get too caught up in the 'I don't want this team to win because they did this, or because of this player or that'. I've got no bones to pick with either team so I am looking forward to just enjoying the game for what it is.

One of the reasons it's been hard for me to really get a good handle on the game. Denver hasn't faced an offense like Carolina's, but Carolina hasn't faced a defense as good as Denver's. That's that side that is most in the air (Car Off vs. Den Def).

I think Denver will probably score ~20 points, and that's if they execute their game plan perfectly. It'll be up to Denver's defense to keep Carolina under that.

And Manning will have to be careful with the ball. Carolina's defense forced a turnover on nearly 20% of their drives - 1st in the league (Denver's defense was 12% of drives ending in a TO). Not only that, but offenses scored against Carolina on 26.5% of drives (1st in the league - Denver's defense was 2nd with giving up a score on 26.9% of drives). Denver can not afford to waste any opportunity. Carolina has enough offensive fire to make up for a few bad breaks. Denver does not. Not against Carolina's defense. One red zone turnover will probably lose the game for them (if their defense is keeping them in it).

(Now that I said that, watch Denver win 38-13...)

Marmel 02-05-2016 11:00 PM

I see this game pretty much going like SB42. The story is almost the same other than that 1 win by Atlanta this year. The Denver defense will limit what the Panther's offense is able to do with a strong rush and hold them under 20. Can Denver get to 20 points? Well, like 42, there is a Manning under center. A late drive pushes them to 20 points and a 20-17 victory.

Logan 02-07-2016 07:40 AM

If I was betting I would take Denver and the under.

digamma 02-07-2016 08:35 AM

On the prop side, I have:

Ted Ginn over 5.5 rushing yards
No 2 Pt. Conversion to be attempted (-175)
Color of coach's victory gatorade dumping to be YELLOW (+600)

Thomkal 02-07-2016 09:21 AM

I just hope that unlike the Arizona/Carolina game, the score is close and competetive without any major injuries. Goes down to the 4th quarter with a close game. And Carolina wins of course :)

Dutch 02-07-2016 09:33 AM

I kind of think this game will go similar to that actually, with the Panthers getting out quick and the Broncos trying to come back...but I think ultimately it will be a 10+ victory for the Panthers. 35-21 or something around there is my guess.

Fidatelo 02-07-2016 09:46 AM

I'm tentatively excited about this game. Hopeful that the Broncos D can keep things close and maybe they steal it in the end. But realistically I have a feeling this is going to be a classic 80's-style Super Bowl where it is never really in doubt past the first quarter.

I get the feeling that something along the lines of this will be how it goes down. I just have a feeling that while Carolina may look more impressive throughout, the bounces and breaks will go the Broncos way to keep them in it for a late drive win.

JonInMiddleGA 02-07-2016 01:28 PM

I just can't see this going any way other than repeated instances of Newton escaping the rush & getting into space.

That makes me awfully sad but that's what I expect :/

Pretty much this. Denver cannot turn the ball over. I can't state that in any different way. I don't see a way Denver can win this football game if the offense turns the ball over 3 or more times and I have a tough time seeing how it can win with 2 turnovers.

On the other side, I'm really, really, really sick of the lack of respect this defense continues to get. Look at this quote from Barmell:

The truth is that the Broncos aren't an especially great fit for this Panthers offense. You'd want a defense who can stand up in short-yardage situations, and the Broncos are the second worst short-yardage run defense in the league, ahead of only Carolina. (Remember that when the camera pans over to Riverboat Ron before a fourth-and-short.) If you wanted to construct a defense that was designed to stop Carolina, you'd want penetrating interior linemen who could blow up plays in the backfield, rangy inside linebackers who could run with Newton and tight end Greg Olsen, and safeties who weren't going to get burned deep.

Really? Ok, he's dead on about the Broncos in short yardage. But the rest of the drivel? Denver has interior lineman that penetrate and blow up plays. (they have the title of DE, but in the Denver front they play more like DT's.) Derek Wolfe and Malik Jackson do just that. Marshall and Trevathan are solid linebackers. The safeties really only get burned deep when they are hurt and their backups are in.

Denver has not faced a Cam Newton this year. Carolina hasn't faced Denver either. This Denver defense built around "speed rushers" held opposing rushing offenses to 3.3 yards per play this year. It isn't like Denver had massive leads and teams stopped trying to run against them. It was actually the opposite. Teams were in virtually every Denver game and tried to run all day. Very few could.

Look, Carolina is a great football team and they may blow Denver the hell out. It wouldn't be shocking to see Carolina have this thing finished by the end of the first quarter.

But I don't think that's going to happen. I think the Denver defense is a lot better than people think it is. A vast majority of the "experts" picked Denver to lose against NE because of Brady and the Pats. It was only AFTER the game where everyone started making excuses for the Patriots flaws. I think we are going to see the same thing today. Win or lose, I think the Denver defense is going to make things very, very hard on Carolina.

If I'm wrong, it'll be the first time all season I'll have been wrong about this defense, so I'll take it. Here is to a good game. Good luck Panthers fans. May the game be decided by the players. No early injuries, no ridiculous calls either way. . . just a good solid game of football where the best team wins.

QuikSand 02-07-2016 02:02 PM

I just flipped on the pregame show (I know), and saw a segment about Tony Gonzalez being flown around with the Blue Angels. It made for roughly 60 seconds of very forgettable footage, airing at 3pm ET.

How does this make sense for anyone involved other than Gonzalez? CBS, Uncle Sam... both losers here, it seems. Beats me. SB Fever I guess.

QS,

Why? Just, just WHY? I'm a die hard Broncos fan and I won't be watching a second of the pregame show.

cthomer5000 02-07-2016 04:43 PM

So what are the general thoughts on the impact it would have on Manning's overall career if he goes out with a win today?

He'd be the first to do it with 2 teams, right?

MIJB#19 02-07-2016 04:47 PM

Seriously? This is the first Super Bowl between teams with a #1 overall drafted quarterback starting?

frnk55 02-07-2016 04:53 PM
