Good Twitter follows
So, despite its weaknesses, I am basically a Twitter-first guy when it comes to getting news and splashing around for information, amusement, current events, and so forth.
Every so often someone sends me a tweet or a suggestion of someone I should follow...and I like that. So, even knowing the potential for trainwreck is perilously high, I'll offer a thread opener here. Let's try to keep this out of the deep political sewer, if at all possible, mmmkay? Who do you follow on twitter that you'd recommend to me and your FOFC friends? |
@538Politics is a great data-driven source of info
@KimZetter is a national security and cybersecurity journalist @BeschlossDC Presidential historian @Ericawerner AP congressional correspondent @holdthisbeer is the gift that keeps on giving |
|
I enjoy following The Atlantic that way.
|
@michaeljmorell Former Deputy CIA director under Obama and Presidential briefer under GWB
@uniwatch Paul Lukas on different uniforms for us logo and uni nerds @ivybball covers Ivy League basketball (this is what you had in mind, right?) @sethhanlon tax policy guy @edsbs Everyday should be Saturday |

If you want almost the exact same content without the incessent ads for his dumb t-shirts, @PhilHecken is a great follow |
@CBHessick for legal analysis (particularly criminal law)
|
Oh, and @Super70sSports
|

+1. @Cmdr_Hadfield. His feed was way more interesting while he was on the ISS, but I still have him on my following list. Most of his stuff now is about his post astronaut life speaking tours. @GarySzatkowski - only worthwhile if you are in SE PA or NJ - recently retired head of NWS Mt Holly office. Good weather info, without the OMG SNOWMAGEDDON hype. |

Great call, didn't even think to follow Phil instead. I swear all Paul does now is post about those fucking shirts. |
@SarcasticRover

If you're interested in urban development then @Richard_Florida is a really good one.

If you like sunrises and sunsets, @sunset_wx

@markzuckerman is great if you like seeing right wing nutsos make fools of themselves.

Justice Willett (of the Texas Supreme Court) is a favorite among the legal twitter universe. He was recently nominated to the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and stopped tweeting. (Smart move to stay as under the radar as possible as a federal judicial nominee in this hyper-politicized time). There is a hope among legal twitter that he will start tweeting again when he either gets confirmed (and has life tenure) or formally does not get confirmed (and does not have to worry about it anymore). |
@OnePerfectShot - Posts movie shots and credits the director and DP.
@dog_rates - People send in pictures of dogs and this guy rates them. Pretty generous ratings. |
@meganamran writer for The Good Place, Parks and Rec
@KenJennings some gameshow contestant @KrangTNelson hilariousness |
@Chris_Shue Certified Idiot

For criminal law and executive-powers law (including both national security issues and the presidential investigation):
@orinkerr @benjaminwittes @jackgoldsmith |

meganamram is awesome. On the scope of more comedic writers who just tweet funny things, @KenTremendous (Mike Schur), @badbanana (Tim Siedell), @sbellelauren (Lauren Ashley Bishop), @juliussharpe (Julius Sharpe), @TheDweck (Jess Dweck), @imchriskelly (Chris Kelly), @bazecraze (Alex Baze), @anthonyjeselnik (Anthony Jeselnik) Awesome basketball artists - @purehoop (Jack Perkins), @arturodraws (Arturo Torres), @rtsimp (Ryan Simpson), And finally, for some ridiculous off-color humor, @nihilist_arbys |

no blue check so not yet certified but yes idiot |
I enjoy Patton Oswalt's feed @pattonoswalt
Most of mine are board gaming or sports related. I get most of my news from @BBCBreaking or various local affiliates. @Playersaidblog is the best of the board gaming ones, but there are several good ones out there. |
Familiar math guy... Twitter stuff is mix of unintelligible math and occasionally interesting insights.
Cliff Pickover (@pickover) | Twitter |
I've been following Tom Nichols (@RadioFreeTom) and Ben Howe (@BenHowe) since sometime before the election. They've been interesting conservative voices over the last year. I don't always agree with their viewpoints, but they make me think about other sides of issues and tend to be entertaining.
Salena Zito (@SalenaZito) is a reporter who covers middle America and offers viewpoints from people in that area. Good read to understand some reasons how people in that area feel about events over the past 18 months. |
This account is funny as hell. This tweet, same.
You Had One Job on Twitter: "Microwave wants a sacrifice. https://t.co/16Gj824Fwv" |

Funny how Twitter works, I just followed that account Saturday |
You Suck at Cooking (@Yousuckatcookin) | Twitter
You suck at cooking. Tweets out his YouTube videos and other thoughts. Naturopathic Quesadillas is my favorite so far. |
|
As a general rule, I don't follow athletes/celebrity types on twitter because I don't care what they think or have to say. I did add Joe Thomas of the Browns. @joethomas73.
Seems to have a pretty good sense of humor and isn't typical "jock" stuff. He does talk about sports but not lowest common denominator level. |
I thought I got @micropicss from this thread but I guess not. Posts microscopic images, which can be really interesting and/or creepy.
|
Does anyone follow Capt Andrew Luck? Funny stuff.
