What TED talks do you recommend?
This could be a companion to the What Are You Youtubing?, What to watch instantly on Netflix?, and What Podcasts Do You Listen To? threads. My brother recommended the TED talks to me quite some time ago, and I finally was bored enough to actually give them a try a week ago. In all seriousness, I have probably listened to CT & Jivin's entire library 5 or 6 times before deciding maybe I should give something else a listen.
This man has looked deep inside my soul. The Instant Gratification Monkey and the Panic Monster are real. (Interestingly, my brother recommended listening to the TED talks long ago. I finally started checking some out the other day while I was doing some super-boring stuff at work. Good stuff. You should check them out.) |

I've been drinking the Kool-Aid and following a guy by the name of Jocko Willink for over a year now. He and a fellow ex-Navy Seal wrote a book called Extreme Ownership and his mantra is Discipline Equals Freedom. He relates battlefield leadership to the business world.
His TED talk is one of my favorites. Jocko Willink TED Talk |

There are a lot of thought-provoking ones, like this one from a doctor who worked in a hospice setting and interviewed people when they were getting near death. I'll admit that I'm personally fascinated with this kind of stuff, being an atheist.

This one on remote viewing was also interesting.

This one is pretty good. Basically, are we alone, are we past the "great filter", or are we on the edge of destroying ourselves. |
This video is about how today's kids end up in financial trouble because they rarely handle money as they grow up. They see it in an abstract way in online transactions or credit card transactions that they never personally have to pay off. When they go out on their own, they get into big financial trouble. |
An interesting approach to fighting cancer: cutting off its blood supply. |
I also recommend the Fermi Paradox one. I check out some of these once in a while, many are quite good.

Here's a worthwhile talk that might spur you to do something good for someone else. |
Al Gore says we are going to beat climate change. |

Nice thread.
I have been asked to do one at one my city universities about my company and entrepreneur life and I need to watch some samples to get some ideas. |
This one is short and sweet from one of the guys on Sully's plane.

I'm late to the party!
Love this thread, I've watched TED Talk videos for quite a while. I downloaded every single one of these and will listen at work. So I"m a dork, I don't remember how to embed a video. This theory is so easy in principle, I'm going to start tomorrow. How to stop screwing yourself over |
I gave a TED talk past week! (was actually a TEDx, local event)
In a few days it will be at the TED youtube channel, but it's in Spanish language. It was an amazing experience, never thought I would be invited to speak in one. ![]() |
