basketball sucks

vtbub 05-20-2003 09:55 PM

Don't feed the troll.

EagleFan 05-20-2003 09:58 PM

He's right, that was an obvious offensive goal tending call they missed.

KWhit 05-20-2003 09:58 PM

Was there a basketball game tonight?

No, the Mavs play tomorrow. ;)

MrBug708 05-20-2003 10:03 PM

The B league is playing

KWhit 05-20-2003 10:04 PM

Ah yes. The minor leagues.

cmp 05-20-2003 10:05 PM

Detroit got screwed out of a lot of calls tonight. Just a few seconds before the three Detroit was called for a foul on a play that looked exactly like Billups' three. If Jefferson was fouled by Williamson then Billups was easily fouled by Kidd. NBA refs are absolutely horrible. There are very very inconsistent

And the Western Conference sucks. I won't be watching the Mavs and Spurs tomorrow.

EagleFan 05-20-2003 10:08 PM

Williamson left his feet on the fake, Kidd was planted on the ground with arms straight up.

vtbub 05-20-2003 10:08 PM

Those officials had to go somewhere, the Lakers can't be protected anymore.

He still didn't hit him. NBA refs anticipate everything. There blowing the whistle before anything even happens.

EagleFan 05-20-2003 10:12 PM

They've called that all year. Once a guy bites on a fake he's pretty much screwed with a foul call whether he commits one or not. It's not like that was the first time that call has ever been made.

Still doesn't make it a good call. And there were plenty more plays then that where Detroit got screwed out of a call. Detroit taps a guy, FOUL! Somebody on Detroit gets thrown to the floor and there's no call.

vtbub 05-20-2003 10:15 PM

They've played two games a a pace that benefits Detroit and came up empty.

I get the sense that whoever plays either SA or Dallas will get swallowed alive.

I'm thinking SA or Dallas will be mighty surprised when they get to the Finals and it's not a cake walk like they thought it would be.

Vince 05-20-2003 10:22 PM

If by "not a cake walk like they thought it would be" you mean they can only win in 5 rather than sweep, then you're probably right. Either Western Conference team can and most likely will whomp the Nets. I think Detroit could make them decent games, but at this point it's going to take some doing for them to make the Finals.

This guy reminds me of early HornsManiac.

vtbub 05-20-2003 10:27 PM

Ya think Ben Wallace can play goalie too? ;)

Anrhydeddu 05-20-2003 10:28 PM

I thought basketball ended when Syracuse won the championship?

MizzouRah 05-20-2003 10:39 PM

It did. :)

Schmidty 05-20-2003 11:07 PM

Don't hate the Pistons just because one of their fans is a complete moron.

(I left myself wide open with that one.)

ice4277 05-20-2003 11:10 PM

I just got back from the game. Great atmosphere, unfortunate (from my point of view) ending. This series is turning into a contest of who wants to give it away the most, and so far the Pistons are doing a much better job of that. Some of the coaching moves by Carlisle were questionable tonight as well. I give the Pistons about a 10% chance of still winning the series.

EagleFan 05-20-2003 11:31 PM

Sorry Schmidty. I don't hate the Pistons. Just rooting for the team that is more local and seeing a Piston fan like that makes it so much easier to root for the Nets.

Now back to the foul calls. Gold101, I compare this to a baseball game. If the umpire is calling stuff 6 inches off the plate a strike all night and you take a 3-2 pitch 6 inches off the plate with 2 out in the ninth, don't be pissed that you just got rung up.

Happy29 05-20-2003 11:46 PM

Did someone say ... The BCS ?

Jets80 05-20-2003 11:47 PM

It's kinda sad when losing team fans blamit on the ref's.

Airhog 05-20-2003 11:51 PM

Even sadder when a winning teams fan blames it on the ref

JeeberD 05-21-2003 02:15 AM

Go Mavs!!!

Blackadar 05-21-2003 06:18 AM

Want to know why the Pistons lost both games? It's not the refs.

Game 1 Free Throws

Nets - 13 of 19 (missed 6)
Pistons - 20 of 30 (missed 10, lost by 2)

Game 2 Free Throws

Nets - 19 of 24 (missed 5)
Pistons - 23 of 34 (missed 11, lost by 2)

Hmmm...seems that the Pistons have been getting to the line more often than the Nets, but they're not converting.

illinifan999 05-21-2003 06:23 AM

Was a good no call. You could tell by the fact Billups wasn't complaining to the refs at the end, and the announcers all agreed that Kidd did a great defensive job to get his feet set, and arms straight up into the air.

cmp 05-21-2003 03:44 PM

I'm not blaming this one the refs. But if they had been consistent all night chances of Detroit winning would have been much greater. Detroit, for the second straight game blew a win. Up by 8 at the end of 3 in Game 1 and up by 9 at the end 3 in Game 2 and they can't get a win out of it. I'm just very pissed right now, mainly at the Pistons.

And the no call at the end was correct. I knew it wasn't a foul, but I'd like to see the refs be a little more consistent. They call one thing a foul on one possesion, and then the same thing happens and it's not a foul on a possesion later on. It really starts to piss you off.

mrbuttercup 05-21-2003 03:55 PM

My bullshit bullshit thread wasnt too bash the refs about that last call either...I totally agree with gold, I am sayin the refs have been callin a bunch of bullshit all game, and series. The Pistons did blow it, and i am very angry, however, a little consistancy from the refs would be nice. Detroit is still gonna win this series, rather its in 6 or 7 idk, but it will happen. Write it down, and o yea, the West sucks, no one plays D, They are gonna be in for a nice wake up call when the Pistons play them, who ever it may be!!

mrbuttercup 05-21-2003 03:57 PM

idiot fan, haha, nice.
I like that one, take you a long time to think of that. Dont be mad....:(

mrbuttercup 05-21-2003 03:59 PM

Calis 05-21-2003 04:01 PM

Wow, I'm actually in awe.

Hammer755 05-21-2003 04:04 PM

I don't think it was the refs who blew double-digit second half leads in each of the first two games.

Do you find yourself wiping up a lot of drool from your facemask and chin strap?

Neuqua 05-21-2003 04:14 PM

Nets 2, Pistons 0

Ok.. Guess who the SECOND best defensive team in the league was.. By golly it was the Nets.. That side of their play gets ignored because their offense can be so much fun to watch.. They've got plus defenders at every position except for maybe C, although Collins isn't half bad.

sachmo71 05-21-2003 04:26 PM

I don't think Jason Kidd is gay. He's strange, but not gay.

I never said the refs blew the double-digit lead. I said that Detroit blew it. But the refs sure didn't help.

classy, very classy

illinifan999 05-21-2003 05:01 PM

See now the unitentional humor is starting to set in. ;)

Nets 2
Pistons 0

Seriously, trying to be as unbiased as I can right here:

Either the Pistons are going to be better than ever or they will get swept. It's not easy to lose 2 straight games on last second shots, much less at home where you blew a double-digit lead.

Qwikshot 05-21-2003 05:38 PM

Go Nets!!!

tucker342 05-21-2003 05:43 PM

mrbuttercup,

I believe that it's 2-0 New Jersey... What's going on with your Pistons???:D

mrbuttercup 05-21-2003 06:00 PM

"That side of their play gets ignored because their offense can be so much fun to watch."

HAHA yea ur totally right, Im wrong, Im wrong about everything, You guys are right. NJ is a such a fun team to watch, theie roster is just filled with prolific scorers!!! Oh, whos the number 1 defensive team in the NBA!!!hmmm......

vtbub 05-21-2003 06:03 PM

If the Pissed-ons lose will you go away?

mrbuttercup 05-21-2003 06:04 PM

M pistons were down 3-1 to Orlando, they won that series didnt they, i think so. Didnt they also give up 2 in a row to philly and win thatt series...I believe so... Detroit is used to being against the wall, I dont like it, but for some odd reason, detroit iusually has lapeses like this over a 2 or 3 game stretch, however, they get their act together and rip of 4 or 5 in a row. Beating this NJ club should be no problem. Just remember NJ has to win 4 games, not 2. The Fat bitch hasnt came out yet fella's.
