My Hero

Got this off of CNNSI's latest power rankings for baseball. This was under the Angels' heading:

Give Arturo Moreno credit for making a good first impression. The Arizona businessman said his first act as the Angels' new owner will be to reduce the price of the $8.50 beers at Edison Field. "I can go around the corner and get it for a buck and a half," he said.

:D

I heard that. A hotdog and a Dew cost me $12.25 at Great American.

Holy crap....talk about highway robbery.

Ksyrup 05-27-2003 07:19 AM

Speaking of which...I just spent the weekend at Orlando theme parks.

You paid money for Mountain Dew?!

That must be the shameful thing that you 'forgot' from the "Ever...nights" thread.

Cards4ever 05-27-2003 08:19 AM

Beer $8.50? A hot dog and soda 12.25? That is sooooo wrong.

AnalBumCover 05-27-2003 10:31 AM

Hot dog and a soda at Costco for $1.50 doesn't sound that bad right now. Heck, I can watch the game on their big screen tv's too.

Alan T 05-27-2003 10:33 AM

Sounds about the right price. I got to about 20-25 games a year at Fenway. I usually spend about $40 for the two seats combined, about $20.00 for the parking and about $50 for the food. :)

Cards4ever 05-27-2003 10:45 AM

Do you think it's a fair price though? I think the best thing to do is eat before you go to the games.

Fritz 05-27-2003 10:47 AM

I watch minor league ball. $10 gets you tickets, a few beers, some peanuts, and a jumbo pretzel. Oh, and the players are not yet pricks.

Radii 05-27-2003 11:02 AM

I'd like to thank Greg Maddux and whoever pitched for the Mets on Sunday (someone Seo) for blazing through Sunday's game in ~2 hours and 5 minutes. The lady friend and her son and I were going to eat at the game, but by the time any of us got hungry it was already the bottom of the 8th. I figure that saved me what, $40? :D

ctmason 05-27-2003 11:13 AM

One of the reasons I refuse to support Major League Baseball (and pretty much every other professional sport except football) with my dollars or attendance.

Same here. When I lived in Huntsville, Al. I use to go to the Stars Double A games and loved it.

Did he just get called up or something? I clearly haven't been following baseball as closely as I usually do this year(odd since my Cubs lead the division), but I'd never heard of him, and I checked the box score at espn.com and there was no link to a player page on his name in the box score. He pitched well against the Braves Sunday, that's for sure.

Alan T 05-27-2003 03:01 PM

He was given a spot in their rotation to start the season and started off poorly but has improved as the season has gone on. The Braves game was his best performance that I had ever seen though, so not sure if it was indicative of Braves lethargic bats (even though the Braves had been hitting great up till recently) or if he is actually becoming quite a nice pitcher.

This is why it always pays to have a local Orlando area ID.. Full Year Passes are seriously almost as cheap as a Regular Priced 2 Day Pass at Disney & Universal..

Damn, I really need to start watching baseball tonight every night again, apparently I am quite out of it.

It would probably be cheaper to pay someone to leave the game, walk to the local *insert store name here*, buy those items, buy a general admission ticket to get back in to the game, and bring the food to you.

edited hours later to correct poor grammar

tucker342 05-27-2003 09:57 PM

The price they charge for food at ball parks is pathetic! 12.50 for a hot dog and a Mountain Dew is crazy and 8.50 for a beer is just as bad. It pisses me off

bbor 05-28-2003 12:04 AM

I went to a Raptors game and paid $11 for a brew.

sterlingice 05-28-2003 12:37 AM

I like going to buck night for the Royals. I can get a good upper deck seat for $5 and small drinks, dogs, and peanuts are all $1. :D

SI
