The 2024 Presidential Nomination - GOP Debate #3 (Nov 8, 2023)
And now we're down to 5 + 1. Starting to get serious now (and the 4th debate is Dec 6).
Simple question. Who wins Debate #3. Define "win" however and in whatever context you want. Haley wins because she's the only one that seems to have a coherent plan for these debates.
Desantis surprises because the bar has dropped so low for him. Vivek will keep his MAGA follows but the hype will start to die off because people start to see through his BS. Christie attacks Trump and gets booed. |
Not watching, but the commentary is suggesting they are all gung-ho about going to war with Iran. Do they really think that is a political winner? People are sitting at home going "" You know what I miss? More wars."

Vivek dropping some Russian propaganda by calling Zelensky a a nazi.

Pretty aggressive against Iran.
Also, China. TikTok seems to be a big thing, I'm not convinced its threat but there was a point that X and FB aren't allowed in China so we should restrict TikTok. That I agree with. So far, looks like Ramaswamy vs Haley and to a lesser extent DeSantis. Ramaswamy took a cheap shot at Haley's daughter using TikTok, crowd boo'ed at that. |
Republicans love banning. Ban books. Ban abortion. Ban Tiktok. They know exactly how to gain young people's support.

Christie seems to be embracing the heel role at these Republican functions.
|
I'd really like it if Chris Christie was the nominee. But that won't happen.
Articles are saying Trump has already won the nomination... they really need rules... |
The Tiktok thing is so weird. Is it just old man yelling at the clouds about video games and violent movies? Is there that much of a difference in that and Facebook/YouTube/Twitter/etc?
|
I thought it was the tie to the Chinese and it being a possible security risk.

The concerns I heard were (1) citizen's data being collected and (2) messing up the minds of the current generation (e.g. antisemitism). But those risks already exist through US apps and various other ways like IT/Financial offshoring/outsourcing, and hacking. |
I like Haley & Christie.
Ramaswamy kept going over and cheap shot at Haley's daughter was childish. Also, his foreign policy is scary to me. |

No It scares older people and conservatives because they don't understand it. Watching the hearing on it showed how technologically challenged and out of touched our representatives are. |
people like it to show the world how they can dance in their undies and how they can do challenges which might kill them
|
I mean if they were truly concerned about data harvesting they could/should pass some data privacy laws. Seems more likely the result of western online interests simply lobbying to get rid of a foreign competitor.
|
I just assumed it was sour grapes that another company was eating their lunch. Meta sells data to any country that wants it, Twitter is partly owned by the Saudis. Feels like if there was concern over privacy, they'd have passed some laws by now.

Uhhhhh she might be real.

I pulled up my Google news brief page and the first set of articles is, of course, about the debate and the first article was Alyssa Milano's take on the debate. What's wrong with our society in a nutshell.

Majority of Politico reporters think Haley did well. DeSantis was okay.
Wouldn't surprise me if there was poll that said Ramaswamy won, but I think he's toast and, at best, VP contender. Who won, who lost and who went ‘unhinged’: Takeaways from a fiery Republican debate - POLITICO Couple noteworthy quotes: Quote:

TikTok also has the most stringent moderation from what I can tell. They'll pull anything with violence or even using specific words. The word "unalive" became part of the vocabulary as a way to get around AI censors for words like "killed" or "murderer". Maybe there is a dark side to the app but I feel like you're going to get far more radicalized on YouTube or Facebook than TikTok. |

Essentially Haley & DeSantis did best. Ramaswamy came in third but had the highest "did worst" score. Who Won The Third Republican Debate? | FiveThirtyEight |

Desantis acts like something that isn't a human living inside a human's body and trying to act like a human. Kind of like Vincent D'Onofrio in MiB. The more you watch him the weirder he is. |
So they hate Iran, Iran and Russia are close allies, but Russia is fine. Got it.
