New Flavors Thread

While that could probably justify it's own thread, I'm thinking a thread just for new flavors will work, too. So not just pop (yes, I'm from Michigan) but any new grocery product or new promo from fast food place. Basically anything we can consume that we weren't able to before.

SkyDog, could you please sift through the random thoughts thread and move all the posts related to new food and drink products over to this one? Thanks.

Here's my contribution for today:

A new limited-edition flavor of A&W Root Beer just leaked, and fans are beyond ready to get their hands on a bottle (or two).

About a week ago, someone got their hands on apparent product images of the soon-to-be-released soda—limited-edition A&W Ice Cream Sundae Root Beer—and shared them to the social media platform Reddit.

I'm excited, but concerned that this will just be a 50/50 mix of root beer and cream soda.

We had Coca Cola Oreos at the movies last week and they were surprisingly good. The top and creme are traditional Oreo and the bottom was somehow red and infused with Cola flavoring and a small amount of Pop Rocks. Pretty sweet. I think they have a crossover soda, as well, but I haven't seen it yet.

I want to try the Coke Oreo with ice cream. Feel like it would make a great float.

Tried it on its own and it's fine. Not something I'd go out of my way to drink but kind of an interesting dessert.

Ksyrup 10-25-2024 02:35 PM

Oreo Coke is really good. Coke Oreos less good. Oreo Coke tastes like vanilla/creme Coke with a cookie aftertaste. It tastes like a cookie pop. I don't know if it's specifically an Oreo, but it succeeds in tasting like a cookie.

I don't recall if it's A&W or another root beer, but a creme soda version definitely exists. Curious how this would taste different.

Has anyone had this year's Voo-Dew flavor? Tastes to me like those old Strawberry Crush sodas.

AlexB 10-25-2024 02:54 PM

Haven’t seen a Skydog reference for years!

I had Voo-Dew a couple of weeks ago. Good stuff

Quality.

Ksyrup 10-25-2024 04:11 PM

I haven't had a Mountain Dew, zero or otherwise (I assume zero exists?), in 2 decades maybe? Not for me. Also, it seems like a drink specifically targeted to kids so that's probably another reason I don't even think of it as a drink I'd buy as an adult.

RainMaker 10-25-2024 04:53 PM

How dare you besmirch the nectar of the Gods! Diet Mountain Dew is my thing although I kind of grew up with it in schools so it probably stems from that. I do like trying their weird flavors although nothing beats the classic.

Ksyrup 10-25-2024 04:58 PM

Before there was a reliable zero calorie version, it was nothing but gum rot soup. I dumped it pretty early on after college during one of my weight loss periods.

And again, it just seems they target teens with all of the flavors and amped up sugar water vibes. People here in KY drink it like water, which supports that vibe! I'm sure it's fine, but it's been so many years since I had it that I don't quite remember what it tastes like.

RainMaker 10-25-2024 05:02 PM

I think it might be a southern thing. Wasn't Mello Yello a big deal down south back in the day?

For what it's worth, I find the regular version too sugary. The Diet version is just perfect.

I've been on Diet Dew for so long that the original doesn't even hit right anymore.

My go-to soft drink of choice at home for many years now.

RainMaker 10-25-2024 05:19 PM

thesloppy 10-25-2024 06:02 PM

Mountain Dew is disgusting. Artificially flavored Mountain Dew sounds shameful.

sovereignstar v2 10-25-2024 06:14 PM

Diet Dew ftw. I bought Major Melon Zero for the weekend. That box is so sick bro ;)

thesloppy 10-25-2024 06:51 PM

I'm not going to spend my hard earned money on melon flavored soda, are you people insane?

Ksyrup 10-27-2024 08:03 AM

Wendy's is coming out with a salted caramel Frosty soon.

Edward64 10-27-2024 08:30 AM

Assume this thread is also for food. Big fan of Costco lasagna

GrantDawg 10-27-2024 09:00 AM

Saw the Shirley Temple 7up at Kroger yesterday. Would have gotten it if it were available in a Zero version.

Ksyrup 10-27-2024 12:29 PM

We still don't have it here. Our Kroger routinely does not get stuff like this. I wonder how it gets distributed.

Only if that's a rainbow sherbet-flavored lasagna.

If they come out with Oreo flavored lasagna it's a day one buy for me.

Ksyrup 10-27-2024 03:54 PM

I bought the Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry and the Canada Dry Fruit Splash Cherry ginger ale in a fit of festive mood yesterday. Sprite is OK, a hint of spice to it but not that different a flavor from regular Sprite. Haven't tried the ginger ale yet.

There used to be an Oreo flavored ice cream lasagna.

CrimsonFox 10-27-2024 05:58 PM

We have weird pop night at game night occasionally. Usually they are pop flavors that are disgusting. Like bacon

I'll stick with Choco Tacos

Here's a new promo from fast food place.

Not sure I really want to try it but am intrigued ...

The Kyoto Whopper uses Japanese-grown rice, but not in the way that we’re used to seeing. Whereas typical “rice burgers” use rice as substitutes for the bun, the Kyoto Whopper has a rice patty in addition to an all-beef one, sandwiched inside a sliced bread bun along with lettuce, tomato, and onion.
:
The Kyoto Whopper also makes use of an extensive mix of Japanese seasonings, utilizing four different kinds of dashi, the stock ordinarily used for Japanese soups. Bonito, shiitake mushroom, mackerel, and kombu (kelp) dashi all go into the Kyoto Whopper’s soy glaze, as do a quartet of traditional Japanese spices: benison togarashi chili pepper, ginger, sanho (a pepper-like spice with herbal and bitter notes), and chimpi (dried mandarin orange peel).

I'm trying to reduce my caffeine intake so disappointed that Coke Zero Vanilla has same amount of caffeine as Coke Zero.

Interestingly, Fanta Orange Zero has 0 caffeine but Sunkist Orange Zero as quite a bit.

For soda fans, Kroger has pretty good deals if you get their digital discounts. $4.99 for a 12-pack if you buy 4 or more.

It's available in zero now.

Pomegranate & Cherry. Not bad but lacks some ... kick (?). Maybe good as a mixer.

Ksyrup 11-24-2024 12:03 PM

We finally found it last week. I like it, but agree that it doesn't have a fully different flavor like I was expecting.

Now I'm on the hunt for Sprite Vanilla Frost. Our Kroger app shows it as "coming soon" but I don't see it in zero version.

Orange Fanta zero and Cherry 7UP Zero are my zero caffeine go-to sodas.

CrimsonFox 11-25-2024 05:08 AM

flavor flav?

Edward64 11-25-2024 05:21 AM

Forgot to mention that when I found the Zero Shirley Temple 7up, I also saw Zero Mr. Pibb (described as "spicy cherry soda").

It's been a while since I've had Mr. Pibb (since the 90's?). It's been bugging me so I think I'll have to buy it.

cuervo72 11-26-2024 06:57 PM

I don’t know if it is new, but I am enjoying the Cookie Exchange Milk Stout from Great Lakes Brewery we picked up tonight. Definitely has Oreo overtones.

Ksyrup 12-07-2024 07:44 AM

We finally got a couple pallets worth of Sprite Vanilla Frost at our Kroger but it doesn't appear it comes in Zero so I guess that's one I won't be trying.

Had the Salted Caramel Frosty last night. Great. Probably my favorite Frosty limited edition flavor of them all, mainly because it is full flavor and not just a hint of flavor like most of the rest.

We found Reeses PB cups sugar cookie edition last night. Had one, and it was good although the smell and taste was more Butterfingery than sugar cookie. Texture-wise there were crumbles of cookie in it but that's as close to sugar cookie as I could get.

We also bought M&Ms Toasty Peanut holiday edition which we haven't tried yet. I hope they are as good as described: roasted peanuts infused with cinnamon, vanilla, spiced sugar, and caramel.

Had not heard about the M&M's I will have to be on the lookout for those

Ksyrup 12-07-2024 11:51 AM

Just had them. Really good. Toasted peanut flavor with a nice cinnamon aftertaste.

We found both those and the PB cups in the holiday candy section at Walmart.

Not showing in stock at my Walmart, but figured that's where they would be.

Ksyrup 12-11-2024 09:02 PM

M&Ms will also have a new flavor for Valentine's Day - white chocolate strawberries and cream.

Atocep 12-11-2024 09:18 PM

I dig the PB&J M&Ms. I was worried about them but the jelly flavor is very light in them, which is a put off to some it seems, but I think they nailed it.

Ksyrup 12-21-2024 10:08 AM

Reese's coming out with red velvet cups for Valentines day.

Ksyrup 12-23-2024 11:02 AM

Late January, Pepsi is introducing Wild Cherry & Cream in both regular and zero versions. Supposed to be a national release. I don't drink Pepsi but I might try a 20 oz bottle of the zero just to see how it tastes.

Edward64 12-30-2024 05:12 AM

I think I tried Jolt once or twice but couldn't have been great since I don't remember much about it.

Recognize the name Jolt Cola? The 1980s soda aims to make a comeback — this time with even more caffeine | CNN Business
Quote:

Jolt Cola, the soda brand that gained attention in the 1980s for offering “all the sugar and twice the caffeine,” is heading back to stores in 2025. This time, it’s promising more than twice the original caffeine content.

Once marketed as an alternative to Coca-Cola and Pepsi, Jolt Cola will now join the crowded energy-drink market with the likes of Red Bull, Monster and Celsius. It will be marketed as a nostalgic drink due to its past reputation, according to Redcon1, the sports nutrition brand leading the relaunch.
Quote:

Jolt Cola will come in 16-ounce cans and be priced at about $2.50 or $3. It will have 200 milligrams of caffeine, up from around 70 milligrams in a 12-ounce can in 1985.

Passacaglia 12-30-2024 12:28 PM

I don't know how new they are, but I tried some sugar cookie flavored Hershey's kisses, and it got me thinking that they really should have a banana flavor.

flere-imsaho 12-30-2024 12:32 PM

Jolt got me through some all nighters in college before I got into coffee, but it certainly did not stand out for taste.

I finally had to order these as a Xmas present to myself. :) They should be arriving today, I will let you know

Ksyrup 12-30-2024 03:16 PM

I bought a couple extra bags. I no longer want the regular peanut M&Ms.

I just had one to see what they were like-similar to the peanut ones which is my favorite, but definitely a cinnamon flavor there too
