Yes ice hockey is big in Canada and the National Hockey League (NHL) has teams in Canada and US. As for the Canadian Football League has been around long before I was born. To answer your question about drafts. The CFL can draft players through Canadian Universities or American Universities as well. Most players in the NFL who did not make the cut, have the option of playing the CFL for playing time and get some football experience.

A player like Casey Printers who was the quaterback for the British Columbia Lions signed with the Kansas City Chiefs for three-years. Players like Casey get recognized quickly because he played in the CFL and that helped him get into the NFL.
