We went 1-4 in the pre-season (only beating Pittsburgh) but that was in large part I think due to our minimal use of McNabb. He only played a lot in the 3rd game which we lost to Baltimore 20-13, but McNabb was 11 of 16 for 108 yards.
Jason Avant was the only serious injury in pre-season, but he should be back in a few weeks. Runyan suffered a mild injury in the last game and is questionable for week 1. I'll probably rotate Justice in some during the game.
Now, it is time to get ready for the regular season. I'll take a look at our depth chart now:
QB: McNabb/Garcia
RB: Westbrook/Buckhalter
FB: Tapeh/Schobel
TE: Smith/Schobel
FL: Stallworth/Lewis
SE: Brown/Baskett
LT: Thomas/Justice
LG: Jean-Gilles/Herremanns
C: Jackson/Offutt
RG: Coleman/Herremanns
RT: Runyan/Justice
Gunners: Gocong and Mikell
PR: Bloom and Givens
KR: Bloom and Mahe
FG and Kickoffs: Akers
Punts: Johnson
Snapper: Offutt
Holder: Garcia
LE: Kearse/Thomas
LDT: Patterson/Walker
RDT: Bunkley/Walker
RE: Howard/Cole
SLB: Jones/Gocong (However, Gocong will see the field a fair percentage of the time.)
MLB: Trotter/Gaither
WLB: Jones/McCoy (McCoy will get some PT too.)
LCB: Brown/Givens
RCB: Sheppard/Hood
NCB: Hood
DCB: Austin
FS: Dawkins/Mikell
SS: Lewis/Considine
Our first game is at Houston. A few guys are rusty, (most notably Westbrook who I rested too much in the pre-season) and hopefully they can shake that off. We are 15 point favorites.
I'll fine tune my defensive gameplan some and then start the season. Offensively, we are going to use a balanced offense that takes some deep shots down the field.
Defensively, we will be using a blitzing attacking defense with a mixture of coverage styles.
