Chapter One
Each of your arrives at school today nervous after yesterday's killing. Some of you arrive by bus, others by car, a couple are driven by parents, one even skateboards in.
The ashes of what was once Kristy McKendrick were found floating in the air yesterday. Her body had apparently been incinerated by the industrial strength boiler. At first, you thought it was the first snowfall of the year. Imagine your shock when you were told that the "snowflakes" you had been plucking out of the air with your tongues were, in fact, once your former schoolmate.
The smeared "I have returned" sign was clear to all. Somehow, Blake McKenzie has returned from beyond the grave!
The video cameras from the school yesterday show only students in the area of the boiler room - no teachers or staff were anywhere near it. Obviously, somehow Blake has taken control of one or more of you!
The class bell rings, and in a silence never before heard in a high school hallway, you trudge to your first period. The occasional flawed attempt at laughter or pleasant conversation breaks the otherwise dead silence.
Each of you makes your way to the decks in your various classes. School has begun again.
The school day has never brought joy to you. It has never brought pleasure or ecstacy. However, today, for the first time, it brings anguish and fear. It's a wholly new sensation for your young lives.
The day begins.
